Some years back, as a solo tenter, I'd booked a pitch at this site at Edinbane. The lovely gentleman running the site had reserved a pitch for me but, in view of the incoming blow on the second night of my two night stay, he offered me a space behind the high fence you see as you leave the laundry at 16.28. Having worked on North Uist, no contest and my car was parked by the vents. The wind was noisier when I decamped from behind the fence to the car in the early hours of the second night and not a soul heard me leaving before the 7am deadline.

We have just got back from Scotland, with our caravan, which included the site at Skye. You just past our pitch on the way to the dog walk. You seemed to have similar weather. We had a brilliant view of the Loch.

We went to Isle of Skye many years ago when you had to pay toll for bridge and the following year they removed the toll. We stayed at Sligachan Campsite and used the Pub. We were plagued by midges and as we made a hasty retreat the morning we were leaving, we stopped at a layby up the road and wiped the windows, which was like thick black oil with midges!! We hope to go back sometime. Loving your videos of Scotland - Great job as always!!
@BobEarnshawMoHo5 жыл бұрын
Midges really haven't been a problem this holiday so far. North Uist was too windy, and the Smidge dies keep the few that we have seen, away.

Great vid, I can confirm no signal on 3 either and unlike most of the rest of sites in the CCC network WiFi is chargeable on the Skye site. That’s exactly the noisy wash lock fan that bothered us - we were on the first grass edged pitch just slightly to the right of facing the fan. Rest of site was glorious and restful and you could sit outside with just natural noise :)

Stopped over 1 night at that site on our NC500 trip even though they were full warden took pity on us and put us on a car park space in front a little timber camping pod that was vacant for one night . Great views all around. Sure you will enjoy your stay.

With the CC Club the reason you are not allowed before 2 pm is because the roads can be narrow, this allow for the leaving vehicles 🚗 to go so there are less problems.

Thanks for your video Jenny and Bob, I am I right in thinking years ago you had to get on a ferry to get onto Skye, but now there is a bridge ?, 👍👍.
@BobEarnshawMoHo2 жыл бұрын
Yes they built a bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh to Kyleakin on Skye in 1995, was made Toll free in 2004. There is still a Ferry at Glenelg.

Hi Enjoying the videos as always. Did NC500 in May and your videos are inspiring us to have another trip in September up the West coast. Can you please give us a midge report from each site and advise how Smidge is working

Here's a quick update. We haven't had any issues with Midges, but I think it's been too windy for them.

Thank you. Just found a site on the Internet, smidgeup.com, which gives a 5 day forecast. Glencoe where we encountered some is one to watch. It was muggy, damp and still when we were there, ideal conditions for the little blighters!!!!

Bob Earnshaw glorious thanks for taking us along - if you’re veggies who eat fish (seems pretty common) I can thoroughly recommend the smoked salmon and salad roll/bap/bun from the castle cafe.
Sorry Bob. that one fell flat I think,, no idea the castle had a cafe. Just "trying" to make a joke. I must remember the "lol" thing. And write to the Guardian to check if it is a joke or an offense. LOL

Its slig-a-chan. The ig is the same as in twig. The ch is pronounced the same as the ch in Loch. That's coming from someone who lives on skye. 😉

@paulmiller76715 жыл бұрын
Great video as usual. However, I cringe every time I hear you pronounce Sligachan as Sliga-chan with the 'ch' being soft. It's more like Slig-ach-kan with the middle syllable being hard or gutterral as if your are clearing your throat when you say it.
