In this episode, you catch up with us arriving at Speyside By Craigellachie Camping & Caravan Club Site, where I also do a campsite tour. The campsite has an interesting past and was once a prisoner of war camp. Filmed in July of 2023. We leave home with no plan on where we are going, watch the rest of the series to follow our travels on this epic adventure full of ups and downs. This campervan allows us the freedom of travelling in all seasons, we actually do most of our travelling in the Autumn/Winter as I have lupus disease | SLE | We stay on campsites & caravan touring parks, Aires & wild camp out in nature. We like to walk | hike with our cocker spaniel dog "Charlie" taking in breathtaking scenery of the countryside and the coast. There is something so magical about driving through the mountains and tourist areas in a campervan. Buying local produce to take back and cook in the campervan, or stopping at an independent shop for coffee and cake helping to support the local economy. I'm with you on the butternut squash, it's vile stuff. I think that I would have just done myself boiled eggs and toasted soldiers if that soup was the only alternative.

Abelour looked pretty. I liked the look of that soup! Our Luna hates those campsite barriers. She’s terrified of them. Interesting history about the site being a prison. Don’t think a cow would fit in the van 🤣😊👍x

Camped at Tomlitool bowls club a few years ago, they loaned us some bowls so we could have a game, great site.

Ooh. We nearly booked in here for April. But in the end we’re going a bit further South. Looks a really nice site. Beautiful scenery as always up around there. What a fascinating story about the prisoners of war - we’re actually sitting in our front room which used to be a tailors shop where Italian Prisoners of War made clothes. Would love to find out the history of some of the sites. Nice one guys - safe journeys.

@@vansforthememories we’re heading to Mull and then across to Ardnamurchan we think. And then Killin Pitlochry that sort of area Yep there’s an old boy used to live in the village and he remembered as kids they used to take the mick out of the prisoners, when they walked past to school. One day they all came out with scissors and the kids left them alone after that 😃

It looks very nice and lush, shame about the recycling being noisy. Really interesting about it being a POW camp. My ex father in laws Dad was a German POW in WWII. He got to work on a farm too and then stayed over here after the war to carry on working on farms. Probably short on farm labourers at the time.

Aww interesting to hear about your ex father in law. Yes it was interesting, apparently the facilities block was also the ablutions block for the POW camp. Hope you’re both doing ok, Em 💜

Hi JP 😎 We are ok thanks, hope you’re both well too? Oh are you? We’ve not long got back, had 3 weeks up there, didn’t film it though, just enough to make one video, got a bit fed up of filming tbh as we’ve had nothing but sound quality issues 😵‍💫 Regret it now, but never mind 😂. We stayed at Dalraddy again & managed to catch the food truck open Omg the food! Absolutely amazing just like you said 😁. We will no doubt head up again at the end of December ourselves😊😇 (we usually do). Where ya going? Em 💜

@@vansforthememories are there any year round sites? are there many if there are? or are there places (like here) where you can still camp, but the plumbed facilities aren't open. there are pit toilets available though.

@@scootladychicago some campsites care open all year round, thankfully. Depending on the area really. We mostly go away in Autumn/Winter ourselves as I have Lupus and I’m not supposed to be in the sun ☀️ which makes it difficult to enjoy a summer holiday. ☺️😇 Em 💜

@@vansforthememories chronic disease is rough, especially one like lupus. i'm sorry. do rashguards (sun shirts) and hats and such help you to be outside during those times? or do you just do your best to avoid whenever possible?

@@scootladychicago aww thanks Anne (it is Anne isn’t it?) Yes I do wear full UV clothing & factor 50 sunscreen 🤭 That does help with the reaction to my skin, but unfortunately the sun can make me feel poorly, it’s really annoying, I do try my best to push through. But going for long walks in the sun, is not a sensible idea for me, as if I venture too far I could struggle to make it back the van at times. 😵‍💫 We do go away in the summer, but head to Scotland to escape the heat (it’s usually cooler there) Its one of the reasons we bought the van 🚐 tbh, I get to enjoy the outdoors still & have a safe haven & G can still go out. Em 💜
