Thanks for the kind words! I am planning a regular SkatterBencher overclocking guide with this CPU which will include productivity and gaming workloads for tracking overclocking performance improvement

Could you make a video about overclocking for gaming
@SkatterBencherАй бұрын
After this series of introductory videos, the plan is to make the usual SkatterBencher guides. It'll take some time to get them ready, though.

I doubt you'll see anything sub 60ns. At least for the time being. Seems to be an inherent design flaw of the new CPUs. Higher memory speeds means looser timings looser timings means higher latency. They'll probably be a middle ground right around where he was in the video or you can go down a rabbit hole tightening subtimings. But shaving 5ns or more is going to be an undertaking. You'll probably end up seeing 55-58ns at best with people who spend it when ungodly amount of time of tuning.
@BerserkismАй бұрын
I think you're being exceptionally optimistic
@JMNovak1011Ай бұрын
@Berserkism yeah I would agree. I don't think everyone's going to get to those low latencies. But I have seen a few people get some exceptional numbers. It's going to really depend on your skill and hardware. Someone who acquires a golden sample CPU has an exceptional motherboard and memory along with the experience of tuning I could definitely see hitting those lower latencies. It's going to be how much money do you want to throw at it and how much skill and time do you have.

AMD has gear 1 mode, idk why intel doesn't. The only problem with AMD is you can't o.c. the memory bus very high so the fastest MT/s ram speed you can have in gear 1 is 6400MT/s overclocked.
@JMNovak1011Ай бұрын
@@Dante_S550_Turbo if your lucky 6600 is there. Or you go 2:1 route and push 8000+ depending on your gear and needs

what test conditions do you run aida in? just stock windows booted into safe mode? you got some tricked out windows with everything removed from it?
@SkatterBencherАй бұрын
I never use tricked out Windows, only stock but with Performance power profile. For these tests, I used 24H2.

The DLVR additional heating issue is real? It sounds terrible for extreme overclocking.
@SkatterBencherАй бұрын
For extreme overclocking there's the option to bypass DLVR and switch to so-called "PG Mode"

I'm sure for many all this is too much to understand fully like me. Also Asus that seemed to be in the middle of 13th and 14th fail I'm going with MSI. My request would be to make a video for moderate settings with added screenshots that you can pause and apply with simple to follow explanation what it does. If possible to add MSI BIOS shots too because different and terms can differ also. I think your videos are important because it seems there is lot more room on the "15th" than it was on 13th and 14th gens that got fried by MB's overpowering the CPU from the box.

Sub 70 congrats, waiting in Sub 35 or I'm staying on ddr4
@Dante_S550_TurboАй бұрын
the problem is intel doesn't have a gear 1 mode or 1:1 for ddr5 memory which is really weird. AMD has gear 1 mode, but their memory bus doesn't overclock as high the fastest MT/s you can get in gear 1 is 6400MT/s. Maybe intel would have low MT/s in gear 1 mode so they skipped it for marketing purposes. Would you rather have near basic stock speeds of 5600MT/s or 8400MT/s? that's going to get people to jump all over the platform that can run "higher" ram speeds.
@direct34Ай бұрын
@Dante_S550_Turbo it's all smoke and mirrors. I'm rank 39th on 12th gen on xtu and I'm using 4x16gb ddr4 4000 cl18 samsung b-die. I would need to be able to do ddr5 8000mhz+ on z790 and I still won't be setting records. These companies rely on people being idiots.
@SkatterBencherАй бұрын
Pay close attention to the memory configuration on AMD platforms before concluding it's running "Gear 1". When Gear Down Mode (GDM) is enabled, the command rate is halved. So even if the IMC is running at the same frequency as the memory, with GDM enabled, its effective command clock rate is half that of the memory. So it's not quite "Gear 1".
@direct34Ай бұрын
@SkatterBencher I went with intel z790 12900k ddr4 4000 cl18 4x16gb samsung b die for #39 in xtu. Until latency comes down for 2t cmd via 8000mhz+ and I can tighten past 30ns I'm staying 12th gen. GDM on AMD if you can get 6200 and I'm still going to do better for latency. I think you have to hit 6400 for it to feel like if I could get 4266mhz stable on my rig.

65ns seems rather high at gear 2 and 8600Mt. Is that loose timings or something inherent to the new imc design?
@LiveTypeАй бұрын
New imc. I'm sure it's possible to go sub 60ns, but it'll be very hard. The disaggregated memory subsystem arrowlake uses spikes latencies no matter what you do unless you clock stuff stupid high just to match older ring bus designs. Arrowlake has to use that due to the chiplet tiles alongside very conservative ring clocks. Intel doesn't want a repeat of raptorlake where the ring cooks itself. I have a meteor lake laptop and latencies don't go below 100ns but I do get ~100gb/s bandwidth. It's tragic. What a bust of an architecture.
@SkatterBencherАй бұрын
I don't think it's the IMC itself - that should be improved from Raptor Lake given the higher clock speeds we're seeing. It's probably just the extra time it takes from the IMC to the cores (via NoC/NGU, through D2D, onto the Ring, then to the cores)
