Totally agree about Odegaard being player of the season. I think he only had 1, maybe 2, poor games all season. He was immense. His workrate, his cleverness on the ball, his calmness all add up to our pefect captain. He's at a level where he could walk in to any side in the world.....and i think he still has room to improve.

Excellent work by Odegaard. His stats suffered because he had to do the work that Thomas Partey does; deep playmaker role. Something Rice was very poor at doing. When we dropped the points that we did, it’s because we played Declan Rice in the no6 role. A lot of people missed this completely. Jorginho and Partey rescued our season to finish this strongly; but they’ll both be very glad Martin Odegaard stepped in to improve the quality of passing from deep. At Arsenal we don’t celebrate the no6 for winning possession! If that’s the case we can’t get close to City and Pep Guardiola! Lol Our no6 must do what Rodri and Partey do; play vertically and dominate creative attacking passing ! Rice passes sideways a lot. That’s why Arteta solved the problem by moving up into the no8, he’s excellent there, and will improve in both no8&6 with time. But for now, no6 is the KEY TRANSFER for us in this window. Not striker. Kai Havertz is THAT striker people are looking for! Arteta is way ahead of everyone on this! Again. Lol But we need to upgrade the Nketiah departure, that’s why a young protege like Sesko is earmarked. It’s the no6 that will be HUGE!

Nobody can write Martinelli off, at his age with his skill. Every player has a dip in form here and there, then they recover, as Martinelli will. Not only that, he will also improve too.

Martinelli was the third most isolated player in the league lasts year, meaning only 2 players had an average position further away from their teammates. And that’s not on Martinelli as he is instructed to hug the touchline. It’s clear that he’s the one who was most negatively impacted by our right-hand-side dominance as there’s simply no one near him. Trossard didn’t suffer in the same way as he is naturally better through the middle so instinctively played better as an inside forward.

Given our defensive record last season I'd have given the award to Gabriel but top class defending is never as glamorous as goal scoring or chance creation and it's nearly always those that gain awards (only once has the Ballon D'or been given to a defender).

I voted for Ødegaard just on the back of the number of times I gasped at his orchestration of the attack and could pivot so seamlessly to defence. But it was so hard - we have so many excellent players and they all found ways to push the team forward this past season. I’m so excited for 24/25!

Reading the news today and saw a story quoting Aston Villa needing to raise 60MM in sales to meet profit and sustainability regs. Two words. Douglas Luiz. Bring him to the Arsenal to play at 6, Rice to 8, play them together in a double pivot when needed. Get it done.

Hey Charles. Pretty sure you have seen news that Villa have to sell players to comply with the PSR rules and Douglas Luiz might be the man who could be sold. Arsenal has a long term interest in him, he could be out on the market. Has 2 yrs left on his contract so if no new deal is signed he should be sold for a considerable price. PL proven, can cover both no.6 and no.8. Villa also has long term interest in ESR. We might be able to generate a ESR+cash deal to sign Luiz. Perfectly suits the recruiting strategy and he might be the player we call market opportunity. Personally, i think he will be the realistic best option for our left NO.8 position if signed. Doesn't mean this will be the end of our midfield recruitment if signed this summer. Still think we need that No.6 player to support Declan more offensively.

Omari was offered a contract by Arsenal and refused, ofcoz there would have been discussions of a pathway to first team, including loans and how he would need to develop. So one would think Chelsea offered him a better option into the first team which reports say was the main thing he left Arsenal for. Yet he was immediately sent out on loan (which Arsenal offered) and a year later he is being sold by Chelsea. So the question is what's the reasons for him to leave because all this could have been done by Arsenal.

Hello Charles, i think first of all Arsenal have to replace Elneny and Cedric since these were first team players. Then we are thinking about keeping Partey to play the role Elneny played, that is he is comfortable being at Arsenal but as a squad player. We then need to replace Cedric with a versatile centre back. After that then we can think of selling some squad players and upgrading with better players who improve the first team or can be trusted by Arteta to come in and do the job. I don't want Partey to go, we dont need 10m, it wont replace what we will lose.

Ødegaard is running all game thru , and then everytime he gets the ball the whole game seems to be at a stand still, nobody can take the ball from his feet , the only time he gives it away is when he mispass , wich almost never happen. He can be sandwiched from 4 sides and he still manage to keep the ball and dance out of the situation, and it almost looks easy when he does it. Amazing player. And those passes , wow. You can almost make a new 20 min highlight video of him every season, and there has not been many players in fotball you can do that with.

Hi Charles, here's my question: Why is no one talking about SANDRO TONALI! Premise 1: Newcastle need to sell if they are going to buy. Premise 2: Newcastle will do everything to keep Isak and Guimaraes. More: Sandro Tonali is a better defender (and faster) than Zubimendi, a better passer than Guimaraes (equal to Zubi), prefers the #6 but can go quite well as box-to-box, has spent a year in England and for the month he was playing looked AWESOME, ergo, no problem adjusting to the Prem, will enjoy one season training alongside Jorginho, AND can be got for "cheap" helping both Newcastle and Arsenal! I think Southgate's starting 11 should be - Pickford Walker Stones Guehi Gomez Rice Bellingham Foden Saka Kane Eze/Gordan Gomez has been a brilliant utility player for Liverpool in quite a few positions, including LB and to a good standard. I don't think Trippier is that good at LB personally. I think both Gordan and Eze are good enough to start and I would start Saka over Palmer. Saka has a better understanding with the likes of Kane and co, where as Palmer is still pretty fresh to the england set up. Thanks and keep up the good work, Dennis

I feel like not much is being made of Kai's ability to cover (God forbid the need) Odegaard's spot in the case Martin gets hurt. Obviously he has been best up front, but in his time at Leverkusen (and even in the last half of this past season) Kai evidently likes to receive and cycle around on that right side of the pitch. He's also developed a clear chemistry with White and Saka. Obviously this wouldn't be the ideal scenario and it would be foolish to assume that Arteta won't make any changes to how we play, but do you feel that this something being overlooked in the context of potential midfield cover?

Hear we go again looking all over the world for a midfield partner for Rice, and he is in front of our eyes, Connor Gallagher. A real real tiger in the middle, up and down the pitch scores goals tackles like a tiger should, and a great presser. I have been banging on about him since he was at C/Palace , could have been available at around 18mil. You Tubers and the fans are ignoring him because he is not "fashionable" every team needs someone who does the ugly things, well here he is . I'd rather we spend the money on Joao neves rather than bruno g for example. Joao would be able to handle the step up in my opinion. He reminds me of a cesc in terms of his maturity on the pitch at that age. He's a sensational talent. For that price it's worth it although it's a high fee. The real madrids and barcelona's don't wait a season or 2 for top talent to develop. They bring them so they don't lose out on them. For me. I think we should get joao neves because partey will leave next season for certain and next season maybe chelsea or city or other clubs will be around and we could miss out. If sesko doesn't come then we shoild look at a wide forward. I also think we could do a deal with ajax where by if they choose to sell hato in a year or 2 then we are first in line. Odegards great obviously. His pressing was outstanding but he could've definitely produced more, his shotting was off. Constantly bashing the ball at a defender. Gabriel was flawless all season and Rice only had a one or two off performances.

Hey Charles, Khan here and a quick question. I've seen some discussion by you and others about potentially moving Zinchenko to a more of an 8 role from LB. Just generally, how difficult do you think that is? Have you ever spoke to players who have to a different position and asked them about how the change felt? Was it an easy transition or did they have to try and learn a new skillset that they may not have had to use? I genuinely think a change of position for some of our players may help revitalize them, like Smith-Rowe for example. I think it would be a mistake selling them as they still offer plenty even at our current level but I'm not Mikel and I don't see what he sees in training. Big fan of the show, thanks

I don't understand the interest in Sesko. The financial outlay doesn't add up for the quality of player. Haaland went to City for a similar price a couple of years ago. Yes it was a release clause that was clearly lower than his market value, but nevertheless, it's a fair comparison. Sesko hasn't produced anything like the same kind of numbers, to my amateur eye he looks far too raw and inconsistent to justify this level of interest. For that kind of money we should be adding a player to go into the first team. Would Sesko start ahead of Havertz next season? Even Jesus? You have to trust the club with the recent success of most of the signings. But this one feels like it could be more Fabio Vieira rather than Martin Odegaard to me.

I don't see any strikers on the market (for a reasonable price) who would add that to the team. The link to Sesko seems like a real coin flip and hope he becomes a superstar. It's what Chelsea have been doing with 95% of their signings in the last 2 years. I'm not a fan.

Odegaard being our best player twice now just shows the golf in class between Arsenal and Real. We haven’t been able to win a title in 20years whilst Real won 6 champions leagues in 10 years. Yes Odegaard is top class but we have a long way to go to compete with the likes of Real Madrid in Europe. We actually haven’t signed any of the best players in the world since Ozil and Alexis 🌍 it is time to bring in World class or Top Class talent to take us to the next level.
