For MMA fans who don't know much about boxing, while art was never a top talent he was very good but more importantly he was super super tough, art had one of the best fights in boxing with Lenny lapaglia in 1988 it was an absolute WAR both men showing the most insane heart and toughness, I highly recommend watching it, best of luck and health art if you ever see this.

Dude I’m so damn fascinated with this first tourney, ufc atp all the dudes are carbon copies all well rounded machines so it’s actually rather boring imo; this first one man was legit like Street Fighter or better yet Bloodsport with JVD. I wanna know everything about it: the recruiting of the fighters, the training they did in preparation, meeting the other fighters and their first impressions, fighter interactions pre-tourney, just everything man
@Gardenhoser86 Жыл бұрын
I don’t get it though - I’ve heard Shamrock shoot on pre-UFC 1 meetings they had regarding rules and he was told he couldn’t utilize some of his gear, namely his shoes, as were other fighters restricted from donning specific types of gear they would normally wear - however Art was allowed to wear a boxing glove (albeit single) and boxing shoes?? They absolutely were doing every conceivable thing they could think of in order to give Royce the advantage and ensure his victory, hence the speculation regarding the first events one big veiled infomercial for BJJ - Gracie BJJ.
@Gardenhoser86 Жыл бұрын
In summation: I wouldn’t feel comfortable speculating aloud, however I so wouldn’t be surprised if we ever discovered Art was paid to essentially take a dive in UFC1
@danielcarrillo43855 ай бұрын
@@Gardenhoser86 I would think its more they understood art was coming in at a disadvantage even with the glove, but wrestling shoes can give an edge in grappling which the Gracie's were afraid of
