You sound so much happier and less stressed since starting at the school. I can totally see huge jumps in your progress too. It’s so cool to see you on the path to your dreams like this!

Hey Mith! I have a question for you: I’ve seen your improvement skyrocket ever since you started physically being at the studio. Maybe it’s because you’re focusing way more on art, but I’m curious about the differences between taking Evolve online vs studying at the Art Academy. It seems like there is much more “overlooking”/careful watching by instructors at the Art Academy (like Kevin commenting about your work in real time). I also saw that you’ve been struggling with color matching, values and gradients in Block 3 with constant feedback and advice about it with no apparent resolve (sorry, I just noticed it was a recurring issue). When you started at the AA though, the problems got fixed almost immediately. Why do you think you’ve improved so much over this short period of time in the AA compared to the online Evolve course? Either way I’m extremely interested in Evolve and am most likely enrolling next year! 😁

6:06 Lol, I know what you mean. Yesterday I drew a figure that I thought was rather good, but today my pride was crushed when the next person I drew came out looking less evolved than an Australopithecus. I looked at that dastardly monkey-man-abomination-thing and felt as though all the improvements I had made in drawing up to now had suddenly become invalidated. I haven't lost hope though, I'll keep trying to improve lol.

Hey M, your passion for this art course is really inspiring, and listening to you speak about your journeys so far has been super relaxing while I draw and paint late at night too. That said, I'm going to try to be super careful about the next thing I say, because this is your path, your art journey, and every one of us goes through different pockets of confidence and challenges, wins and failures throughout. In the end, I'm okay with just being another random on the internet who's just trying to help, so if you either want to throw away my advice/feedback or open a dialog or even call me out on something that I said that's super out of line, I'm super open to any option and will reply as friendly and respectfully as I can. 😊 So, I think the main thing you need right now is to believe in your instincts. Art is about expressing yourself, and so far its kinda seemed like you're expressing the rules rules rules. You know how when you did the Overwatch lootbox, you just applied what you've learned so far on something you loved, and how your instincts for a while now had been nudging you to use it as a subject? I believe that's why the colors and values and everything came out so vibrant. You were expressing yourself and your love for the video game so your instincts rewarded you with a beautiful render where you can remember every brush stroke and instance of concentration it took to apply those little details on the canvas. Evolve is teaching you some extremely valuable skills I believe you're excellent at already, and using some beautiful subjects and materials made to help you practice those skills, but in the end those are just an expression of the course itself. I want to encourage you to find the time to go loose as fuck and just go off on the canvas on whatever the fuck YOU WANT and trust in the process cuz the skills are there. AND SHOW US! SHOW US WHAT YOU LOVE TO MAKE. You're learning to be the very best artist you can be, not the very best artist Evolve can make you. And I get that a big part of this YT journey as well is showing off Evolve in like it's purest form, but... well I guess my little rant ends here. I hope anything I said will help you in any way going forward. Good luck, I'll still be here watching your vids 😊

PS: The Cats looks amazing!! I really like the proportions on the right side of the paper at 0:02 I have been watching Kevins lessons on it too. What do you think of Evolves proportion techniques, do you like it better than what you have seen before? Its interesting to compare it others like construction methods, its very organic and I havent used it much yet. Looking forward to your answer.

Hey Mithildra! I see you are really happy at art school, I am so proud of you! But I kind of feel bad for you, because you are always criticised on your artworks, when they could talk about the goods of it! Like that can be too personal sometimes, but can be for the better of improvement. But, your paintings are amazing, I don't feel like criticising it because it actually is quite accurate! Hopefully after you learn art better, you could be more creative with your own style, without always having to follow the accuracy of art. ❤

Hi, I'm trying to wade through your videos and blog, but I'm having to jump around a little bit. Did you ever finish Evolve? It's not super-obvious from your content titles whether you ever finished the course or not.

A couple things: - First and foremost: PLEASE get some longer pencils or use a pencil holder. My wrists hurt just from watching you. Keep your tips sharp and draw from half to 3/4ths your forearms length from the surface. Use light strokes to sketch before solidifying your lines. You're gonna develop an injury pressing so hard at such a close range to the easel with a short blunt tip. I'm really surprised your teacher hasn't corrected your posture by now. This is day 1 atelier basics. -Second: It helps to think of an object in your mind as a solid 3D form, because our world isn't a linear 2D cartoon. When you focus only on the flat shapes and proportions (without incorporating 3D construction methods), you miss out on the opportunity to exercise mental abilities which allow you to draw from imagination. This isn't a big deal if you're training to be graphic designer who's work will appear on a 2D surface 90% of the time. However, if you aim to conceptualize and create images that don't already exist, ignoring "3d thinking" will severely hamstring your efforts down the road. A good book for you to read and practice with after class is Peter Han's Dynamic Bible. He has a lot of straightforward exercises which help you understand form and shape better, instead of just flat copying. Some of his video lessons are on KZbin as well.
