Watercolor on paper dried then acrylic transparent or semi transparent on top can create a glowing effect with warm or depth with cool

Hi Tammy. Great idea! I do love transparent layers to get that glowing effect.

I was a brand ambassador for Liquitex products for a few years, and they sent me a huge box of the acrylic inks to try. My color recommendations for you would be transparent burnt umber, sepia, transparent raw umber, neutral gray 5, muted violet, and iridescent rich copper. Even though I have not seen violet as a color on your palette, the shade muted violet is a very deep, muted and moody color that can bring a lot of depth to a painting. It’s transparent, but it’s very dark when concentrated. As with all acrylic inks, it can be mixed into paints so I sometimes have used it to tint other paint colors. The iridescent rich copper has a metallic look, but I could see you using it in small amounts in your work. It looks great with muted blues such as indigo, and has a slight pink tone to it like a new penny (oops, I know you are in Britain). The inks have that eye dropper that can be used to draw with for markmaking. I think if you experiment with them, you’ll find that they will fit in nicely with your painting practice.

Hi Kathleen! Funnily enough I’ve been noticing that purple is starting to appear on ma paintings when I’m layering colours and I’ve been really enjoying it. That’s so much for the recommendations! And I do love using the ink dropper as a mark making tool, but definitely don‘t use it enough. Brilliant tips, thanks Kathleen.

Hello Jeannine! Very interesting the fiber paste which you could also lay down through a stencil shape to make it look like a collage!

I paint with acrylics but wanted to try oil sticks so I purchased two Sennelier oil sticks and one of them just happened to be the color alizarin violet lake. I had the best time using these sticks because it was like coloring and it was an entirely different experience than using a paint brush. Unfortunately for me, I am in a small space and cannot get away from the work piece so I had to stop using the oil sticks because the off-gassing odor was just killing me. I am donating these to my local art school so somebody can get use from them and hopefully enjoy them too.

How funny it was that same colour. So often I want to experiment with oils and oil sticks, but the fumes are the main reason I don’t. Wouldn’t it be great if we had a separate room where we could keep them just to dry!

Hi Jeannine. I’m a fan of that ink you bought and love to use it in a fine line applicator. Terrific for mark-making, outlining sections, etc. Just for fun I bought a pair of those oil sticks. I work mostly with acrylics so this was just curiosity. They do make fantastic bold marks and are really great for smearing. I made a think line about two inches long and then smeared away from the sides. It almost gives a “mark is in motion effect.” But wow, are they expensive!!

Great tips Mark, thank you! I want to experiment with the oil sticks more.I have a fine line applicator but I've never used it. Maybe I should get it out. So much inspiration, thank you!

Thank you Jeannine for this lovely little art haul. So sad your local art shop is closing down 🙁. I have a shop and there are certain items now I can’t stock due to online competition. It’s so important to support local small businesses and I’m sure your local art shop has appreciated your custom. I’ve been wanting to try the fibre paste but as I’m mainly working in journals I’m not sure how it would handle with the build up of texture. On the other hand I love the texture it creates and the effects watercolour and ink have on it. Obsessed with how these mediums bloom and create their own art. From what I was reading about it, it’s a great addition to mixed media for watercolour that wouldn’t normally be suitable on canvas or board. I look forward to seeing how you use it in your beautiful art. Thank you and have a magical weekend 🙏🏻😊🙏🏻

Oh I did not know that. Where is your shop? Maybe I’ll come and visit one day ☺️ Must be so difficult to keep a brick and mortar shop alive these days. I’m certainly guilty of buying online a lot, it just feels so convenient. But there is nothing like going to an art shop and looking at all the wonderful supplies, so we need to try our best to support them. I’ve got a feeling I won’t end up using the paste very much, like so many other amazing materials that are gathering dust. But it might just open up a new world of possibilities. We’ll see!

@@jclosestudio Thank you Jeannine. My shop is in Dunster Somerset. Its a beautiful medieval village on Exmoor NP, breathtaking countryside and always worth a visit. Would be lovely to meet you if you ever head this way. I do understand about online shopping. With living in a rural area I buy a lot on line as I can't get it locally. Mainly art supplies as we don't have an art shop around here. However, I do make it my mission not to support the larger online sites especially the one beginning with A!! Look forward to your next video and may see the fibre paste in later projects 😊😉
