Did the sentencing to death of Jiang Qing, the widow of Mao Zedong, founder of the People's Republic of China, enable the Chinese Communist Party led by Deng Xiaoping to absolve itself of the crimes of the Great Helmsman? Accused of counter-revolutionary crimes after Mao's death, she embodied the hard left of the Chinese Communist Party, which Deng is determined to get rid of to make way for his modernisation plan

Several important points were elided in this documentary. 1. Deng Xioping was purged from the Chinese Communist Party a total of THREE TIMES, not once as stated here. He was denounced as a “Capiralist Roader” during the “Great Leap Forward.” After Mao died in 1976, Jaing Qing tried to make it a fourth time. She failed. Each time Deng was purged, he was protected by Zhou Enlai. Other great Chinese leaders who did not have a benevolent protector like Zhou (e.g. Liu Shaoqi and Peng Dehuai ) who tried to move China in the right direction were humiliated, purged and killed. 2. In between Mao and Deng, China had a leader named Hua Guofeng, who was Mao’s designated successor. Hua was basically undistinguished, except for one very important thing: When Mao died, he did not want the radical left (led by Jaing Qing) to take over. He mobilized reform minded Chinese Marshals who rescued Deng from rustication and put away Jaing Qing and the “Gang of Four.” If Hua had not done this and Jaing had taken power after Mao died, things would have turned out differently. 3. Nixon’s visit to China in 1972 was a real big deal in China as well as the US. This was Mao’s decision and it involved significant political risk. There was a large and powerful contingent of Chinese leftists, of which Jaing was one, who did not want normalization of relations with the United States. Mao had to kill his designated successor, Lin Biao (who wrote the “Little Red Book”), in order to receive Nixon and begin the normalization process. Again, the outcome was hardly foreordained. If Nixon had not gone to China in 1972, China would likely not have opened up for another 20-30 years because of the strong opposition to rapprochement with the West within the left wing of the CCP. 4. Xi Jinping, the current paramount leader of China, and his father, Xi Zhongxun, were both purged by Mao. After Mao died, Deng worked to rehabilitate Xi Zhongxun (along with posthumous rehabilitation of Liu Shaoqi and Peng Dehuai ). Again, this easily could have gone the other way.

Jiang Qing, the wife of Mao Zedong, was a prominent figure in the Cultural Revolution and held influential positions within the Communist Party. She was known for her radical views and involvement in the political upheavals of that era.

The Communist Party of China (CPC) played a crucial role in unifying the country and providing stability after years of civil unrest and foreign invasions. The CPC's leadership helped to bring about a sense of national unity and pride among the Chinese people.

"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players." Thus spoke Shakespeare, who knew a thing or two about theatre. Jiang Qing was handed the role of villain in the stage of Chinese history. She played the role well, and she played it with relish. There is probably no woman more reviled than Jiang in modern Chinese history. The mistreatment of Wang Guangmei, wife of President Liu Shaoqi (at 7:07) during the Cultural Revolution, is testament to her vindictive nature. There is a famous photo of Madame Wang being paraded wearing a necklace of pingpong balls, in caricuture to the pearls she wore in a state visit to Indonesia. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Perhaps Chinese history might have taken a different route if this second rate actress had been better received early in her career. Just as European history may have taken a different route if Hitler had succeeded as a painter instead of heading the National Socialist movement. Just a tip: The letter "Q" in hanyu pinyin is pronounced as "ch". So "Jiang Qing" should be pronounced "Jiang Ching", not "Jiang King". And the "Qing" Dynasty is pronounced as "Ching" dynasty.

While comparing and contrasting these two figures can provide valuable insights into China's complex history, it is essential to do so in a way that promotes understanding and critical analysis rather than sensationalizing or trivializing their contributions.

Before the advent of communism in China, the country was plagued by a feudal system that oppressed the majority of the population. Communism helped to dismantle this system and redistribute resources more equitably among the people.

While communism had its successes in China, it is also essential to acknowledge the criticisms and drawbacks associated with the system. The ideological nature of communism led to periods of turmoil and suffering, such as the Cultural Revolution and other political campaigns. Additionally, the rigid control exerted by the Communist Party has been a point of contention for those seeking more political freedoms.

If you want viewers to take your documentary seriously, at least find someone who can say the names correctly. “King” for “Ching”, “Zou” for “Jou”, “Ki” for “Chi”. And what the heck is „the Zedong couple“? Just use common sense! When was the last time you referred to John and Jacqueline Kennedy as „the John couple“???

Under communist rule, China underwent significant industrialization and infrastructure development that laid the foundation for its economic growth in later years. Projects such as the Great Leap Forward and later economic policies helped to boost industrial output and improve living standards for many Chinese citizens.

it takes the in China and westerner mainstream vulgate without deepening or giving a new investigation at all. As an example China was a Confucian country with a very conformist culture against the " Half of the sky" as Mao called the woman, and sustained her emancipation . Against the current, was not Jiang but Mao who vowed the new enter Jiang. Mao who was a vigorous man with normal sexual desires even under the condition of the civil war, was very respectful of woman and female comrades. This the report of Mobo Gao in his valuable and serious work:" In defense of China past. Mao and the Cultural Revolution", Ed Pluto London. Which Mobo ridiculize the figure and the words of Li Zhisui, the self-proclaimed Mao's special physician. Who was the media successful main strategist of a Chairman womanizer . Low quality.

This so- called "documentary" is an incompetent piece of rubbish. One is surprised to see French authors degrading themselves with such a superficial & frequently inaccurate & slapdash product. My guess is that it is aimed at the most ignorant sectors of the European & Anglophone KZbin audience, who prefer lurid judgemental pulp statements to humane historical analysis... a disgrace to France.
