I bought an M1 MBA last week. there was a 375$ price gap between M2 MBA. using that 375$, I bought a DELL 4K monitor (priced 450$) monitor's type-c cable also charges MBA, so second thunderbolt socket is free for my use. I'm happy. instead of buying just a single M2 MBA, now I have a M1 MBA and 4K monitor setup.

I moved from Windows to the M1/8/256 air in 2021 and that was the best decision ever. I use it for daily work (office, , mail, video conf, web browsing etc.) as well as to play HOTS , it is at 260 cycles and 92% battery capacity it does 10 hrs without any problem. Never had slowdowns or throttle. Just some wifi lag spikes that are because of the AWDL crap of macos , not the laptop itself. I will keep using it , until updates are been released for it. The best machine ever.

I found mine a month ago at a pawn shop for 600. It only had 7 charge cycles and was free of any scratches or dings. They were actually charging 650 but I talked them down. It does everything I need and then some. I couldn’t be happier.

I recently bought an M1 Air with 16GB ram 256GB storage, this is my first Apple purchase at 45. I will say it is the best portable computer i have ever owned. 90% of my work is done on local Linux servers and there is 96TB of networked storage available which i was able to map easily. I cannot see myself ever using over 60GB of local storage. I have multiple remote desktop sessions running, terminals, network music player, code editor, browser and rarely come close to 5GB memory use. Other devices stream video to a display so... i consistently get closer to 16 hours battery life heavy work and almost a week between charges for lite work. My video editing needs are minimal though i do play around with machine learning on the M1 have yet to hit 12GB ram utilization for those tasks. This will probably be the first laptop i shed a tear for when it dies.

I think Apple had to make the M1 as powerful as they could manage because it had to be truly exceptional if it was to replace Intel chip technology. And boy did they succeed! It has been a hard act to follow understandably. I have the M1 Mini 16/512 and use it for video and photo editing as well routine tasks. Best computer I ever owned. Didn’t think I needed an M1 Air, but after a technological glitch giving a public lecture with my M1 iPad I am buying the M1 Air because it is the best entry level laptop ever made. (When I see the nice looking new Windows lap tops I have zero curiosity about them-they are dead obsolete in my eyes) I don’t need anything more and neither the M2 or even the M3 would be worth paying for. Even when the M1 air is obsolete it will be a classic.

It’s 2024 and I recently bought an MBA M1 8GB RAM 256GB SSD. I am in love with it. I just got it because my iPhone 15 Plus wasn’t cutting it anymore for the basic stuff I needed a laptop for (emailing and web browsing). I bought an Apple refurb M1 with 8gb/256gb for $850 over two years ago. It has been amazing. I only really just started running into its limitations when I was running virtual machines and storing large video clips for editing. I recently upgraded to.... another M1 MBA with 16gb/1tb. That has been extremely capable (all for $900 on eBay). Except for a lack of a built in SD slot, there's nothing I'd really change, but the flexibility of two TB3 ports more than makes up for it.

A used M1 Macbook Air now runs up the score on any other Apple product if one is on a budget. If one buys a Macbook new, the temptation is to start adding at least one of extra ram or storage and AppleCare, and suddenly one is north of $1700. Whereas used, suddenly one is looking at 1/2 the price or possibly even near 1/3 the price of what one would have spent new, albeit for a beter spec-ed machine.

As a customer who prioritizes performance per watt, I’ve been waiting for Apple Silicon since the advent of the iPhone. Comparing extremes? High end, top of the line, Windows gaming desktops can be configured w 1,000+ watt power supplies - which approaches the power of a microwave. The M2 MBA uses less than 5 watts in low power mode. For my intended uses - it’s a no-brainer.

I do graphic design with my fiancé, she owned her own company and is using a MacBook Pro m1, and let me tell you, there is hardly any Dif, also I have the extra space as she is running a 256gig and it makes a nice difference. Really glad I went with the 512, I has to wait and look around but it was worth it, finding a well priced 512 is not that easy but I got what I wanted and am super stoked. As a lifelong windows user (I go back to DR Dos and MS dos 3.3) I bought a 16/512 this week and I'm pretty happy. It's a proprietary tablet with a keyboard that's all pretty well designed. Where it misses is with things like Safari just stopping and the initial silly installation quirks - but that's to be expected in a closed environment. Apple seems to be working quite well otherwise with temperatures, battery and performance all being not quite good value for the money but acceptably priced. You've got to remember that it's limited in battery capacity by airline rules so I guess this is close to the best you can design within these parameters. Where I fail to see the logic is the Macbook M2 and especially pro lines. Especially MBP, sucking up dust and having an abysmal failure rate, in my environment, it is unforgivable that Apple can't take ownership of cable wear and basic PC maintenance. If I knew I had to change vacuum hoses in a VW golf, why not accept that ribbon cables will need toughening up or changing at a later date? My other beef is that Apple just doesn't seem to know how to fix it's own products - and when they die, you have no way of getting your data off. A friend's i7 died during an update and was told on a machine with very few hours usage that he was responsible for burning the system board. I'm 80% sure that this isn't the case (I'm new to Mac). If this was a car and changing the ECU caused a catastrophic systems failure needing the engine and electronics changed because of a design issue, there would be legal repercussions... remember: Working>Update>Brick (no other events) So I've decided that I might give the ransomware Macbook a try. Maybe monitor the documents folder with Synology or something...

It's easier to hold with the thin edge, it has no fan noise. It is perfectly adequate for almost all routine tasks. Even over powered for it. I won't swap it for 13" pro or 14" pro as they are overpriced and less elegant. The only thing i would upgrade to is 16" for screen size and maybe battery power.

OK, I'm not like you. I finally got mine after wanting one since 2020. I'm convinced this is the pinnacle of MacBook Air design. This is everything the 2014 MacBook really wished it could be but it was hobbled by that pitiful intel Core M CPU. The MacBook Air has always been a limited laptop. I think the very first ones had only one USB port. The M1 chip seems custom-made for the Air. It feels limiting in the other Macs, but the two USB ports have become standard on the Air and the limited RAM options are no different than what the Air has had for many years. I got one with twice the RAM and twice the storage because that's me. The screen is better than previous MacBook Airs and the keyboard is much better than on the older Airs. The battery life on this fanless laptop is just crazy! But heck, the M2 MacBook Air doesn't even LOOK like a MacBook Air!

Absolutely worth it. I used a 2017 version and it was totally worth it for three years and then some for Law school, with heavy word processing and media play. The user interface and multi window and seamless use of programs and internet browsers.... it's great. Surpassed my Windows PC when I saw other students able to move around the computer and analyze data faster than me. ..... I had to switch and I have not looked back (after decades of Window use).

Only thing is how long will it take for the software updates for the M1 CPU to stop being used? When they stop/slow the updates on apps compatible with the M1 CPU then one will just be screwed. I think at this point though M1 is still a favourite, Getting an M2 would make more sense in a software sense. Because they will make the apps more compatible with M2 more quickly than the M1. It’s just something to expect from these companies. If someone is projecting use within the next 6 years ahead. We should be used to these by now with the accelerated changes tech companies make on software. 2020-M1…2022-M2. In 2026 you will be better of with an M2 than an M1 based on app software.. that’s where Apple really gets people.

Ok but as a causual user with possibly gaming some(yes ik why a mac for any gaming?) bc gaming laptops are portable, but not LAP tops. And in terms of everything else its top notch, priced right, and im good with just the base model. So i just cant decide on mba m1 or m2

Bro i really need help I'm planning to start coding and i need a macbook. I'm really confused between M1 mba and M2 mba. I'm planning to use the laptop for next 2 - 3 max as the work load increase i would like to switch to macbook pro. Will the base model be enough and should i buy mba M2 base or mba M1 model with 16 gb ram. As my budget now could only be enough for the 16 gb mba m1 or base m2. Will the m1 have great resale value after 2-3 years or should i buy m2 mba considering the resale value. Will the 8gb ram on the base model be enough for someone who is starting coding or should i really consider 16 gb m1 ? Please answer I'm really confused

The BestBuy back to school sale is open to everyone. You don't have to be a student. Also, some people expect the MacBook Air M3 to be announced in October. It will be significantly better than the M2. Look for announcements about the October Apple event, the event usually happens in the last two weeks of October.
