If you were able to create an immortal version of yourself, would you? Until this decade, that question was the stuff of science fiction, but now experts in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics suggest it will indeed be possible.
This cinematic documentary explores the latest technological advancements in AI, robotics and biotech, and poses the question: what is the essence of the human mind, and can this be replicated? Or even more unsettling, could we one day meet cloned versions of ourselves - clones which are better, smarter, and immortal?

It might mimic our personalities by studying us before we die. How we act, how we talk, what our beliefs are, what our morals are, but there is no way that they're going to transfer our actual consciousness into artificial form. And no matter how old you get, you are not obsolete. Society needs elders people with wisdom to help the next generations coming up

What a well-done documentary! My aunt gave me my Grandfather's daily journals, which spanned the years of his life from 1927, a year before my father was born, to 1956. His last entry was just 3 weeks before he died of a heart attack, 2 years before I was born. It was amazing reading what he had hand-written so many years ago. These glimpses into what was memorable for him, which also sometimes included a photograph. I've often thought about how amazing it would be to be able to leave an electronic journal for my descendants that would show what was important in my daily life. And that is basically my FaceBook account, for now. :) "Whatever will be will be."

@@realfreedom8932 Hi! Thank you for your very unique perspective on this as you're much more knowledgeable on Theology and Philosophy so you mean in this temporal life there is great suffering and when we transcend into eternity there won't be the suffering that was very evident in her father it will only be a great joyful life beyond imagining? Is that right? In my amateur view I was thinking within the temporal life and a documentary and what seems it's intended themes and the contrast in which the daughter depicted how wonderful her father was to her and meanwhile he suffers alone thousands of miles away and her daughters, his grand daughters, seem not to know anything at all about him...

I think that The kingdom of God is in every one of us, like Jesus said. My brother was in seminary and an altar boy and he went to a funeral of a nun that had died. I think she was in Duluth Minnesota and back in the early Sixties and he said when he looked at her body you could see right through her. I like too the story of the nun who before Mayo Clinic started said to Charles and William Mayo that she had a dream that people were going to come from all over the world to Rochester to receive medical care.

A soul trap is exactly what it is. Ben Goertzel, the guy with long hair and glasses gives up the game when he says he thinks they can do “better” than heaven. Meaning prevent the return to spirit by trapping souls in the material, the mind. The cool thing about this universe is they do have to tell us what they’re doing, we just have to listen. Anyways I agree with you, these schemes and gimmicks don’t work, they’re just trying to take our money here in the material plane 😂

This would eventually lead to cloning and transferring memories into a new clone which in turn would lead to insanity amongst the elites who can afford it. The ethics and lack of morality behind this thinking is not healthy. Stating that evolution is not fast enough is a complete ego state of man over his life. We evolve as humans when we are ready to evolve no sooner or later. Part of the problem today is technology is racing and humans aren’t ready to evolve that fast but the mind set is we have to adopt without out learning the lesson for the evolution to understand this fast technology which is not always healthy towards the human spiritual mind set

Such a good documentary leaves me with so many questions about life in general but I think my take away from this documentary in regards to mortality and immortality is the fact that our lives are stories written with our emotions and memories so we can pass them on to our successors or descendants(humans/androids/A.I), I think that's all there is to life whether we do achieve immortality or not, life is a story and you are the author of it.

😮 Life is meant to be about answering one big question. Do you believe Jesus loved you enough to deliberately sacrifice himself to save your soul from everlasting death? Yes or no. If you do, the rest of this life is about learning to love Jesus in return, more deeply over time. If not, you will go to the final death, prepared for rebel angels, but big enough for rebel humans too.

The initial statement stands for a special kind of disconnected mind-set up: "We've been trying to fight death since the beginning of our existence", because it really means, since that mind-setup came into play. In reality we are trying to fight all sorts of pain, as long as we are alive due to an empathic character. But who wants to live forever in a world like this? Would it be a bless or more like a curse, espacially f there might be other realms of existence than ours? Our world is teaching the distinction of good and evil, so both poles need to be filled. Because of my doubts that any human can embody ultimate evil, there needs to be a kind of AI for that job. A cold, rational mind, free of any empathy throughout its existence.

I think you're missing the point. It doesn't matter what the circumstances of your existance are. When it comes to that final breath, when you're about to die, you are going to FIGHT with every cell and every ounce of willpower to take one more breath. Because it is hardwired into every fibre of your being to simply exist. I used to constantly have existential crises about why this is. Why do we "want" to exist so badly. But then someone explained to me that the earliest life on earth was just a constant process of what lived, lived, and what died, died. So only the stuff that worked, lived and got to evolve. We are the result of this process over millions of years.

One thing about this is that in order to feel good about it, trust must be extended to humanity to produce artificial body technology for good ends. Probably not too many watching here, unless they are approaching the end of life maybe, will be able to have an open mind to question why such technology would be our salvation for immortality. What they are pushing here it seems is a state of the art legacy version of ourselves. Consider too that such creation might very well work against god's plan and that could be a bad move should we find out too late. But of course you would have to ignore any possibility of a god as we traditionally have known to not worry of that happening. Yes, all of a sudden we can somehow forget our terrible self-destructive history of societal ways and push towards working together in harmonious agreement as one guided by our wise clones. When has our makeup been one to give up war for peace and share with one another consistently? More likely these things will be built for some company to get rich and then subverted by programs to continue a legacy of the same old same old. Then also what about other problems like artificial intelligence bodies somehow betraying "nice" consciousness ends for more predictable efficient machine consciousness casting us out of "their" bodies? These and other questions - and especially man's dubious nature - need to be taken into serious consideration before pursuing artificial intelligence bodies. It might be eternity alright but for machines not us. And then what if those who promoted this and joined in find out wherever we go that god has some questions for us about our data versus spirit aspirations. It really sounds like modern day frankenstein in the scam lab pursuits but new age transhumanism sounds more catchy today - and even "hollywood". At the moment, I'll stick with some legacy videos complete with audio for my children and grandchildren to watch should they have the time though I don't imagine I'll be around when my artificial intelligence body greets them.

My soul left my body when I was in a very difficult situation - both my parachutes had failed, I was on my back expecting to hit the ground. First I relived all the really loving parts of my life - all three of them. I actually went back and was there. Then my soul floated out of my head. I could see behind me then and I saw that I had at least 3 seconds left (1000ft) I mentally screamed to God to give me another chance and I slowly floated back. The first thing I noticed was that fluids were streaming upwards from my nose and mouth indicating that there was nothing left in my body. I shook my reserve chute till it snapped open and I hit the ground. After experiencing this I feel happy to die as I know there is immortality.

@@BroadenTheMind1991😊 Oh, but we are. From the moment of conception. We are body, mind, and spirit. The body will eventually, in a century or so wear out, no matter how good we care for it. The mind and spirit absolutely survive physical death. The only question worth answering is in what condition that mind, that spirit will live on. Either we choose in this life to love God, and place ourself under His protection for eternity after, in which case we get to enjoy Heaven forever. Or we chose to believe in our own wisdom, in which case God has nothing further to do with us, and we must then spend eternity after in eternal separation from His love, or that of any other being. Souls who make that choice go the same place carved out for a prison for rebel angels.

Immortality is the ability to retain your identity. With time what you deem as you would change so dramatically that it would feel like death. Your brain if modified would retain so much information that you would feel dead in terms of your current identity which is the thing you value, isn't it?!. Even if we materially don't decompose, we would die in terms of conscious identity which is the thing we value. Death would outsmart us no matter what we do.

Will the clones be able to determine which of the others are clones? Just imagine the chaos if insane people do this! What about socio- and psychopaths, etc? Won't that be a fun world?

Very interesting documentary. I will say if you or anyone has an interest, that to believe the information I have is me is short sighted. Where would one draw the line? For instance, if I share every moment with my wife and tell her all my deepest thoughts, is she now me? I don't think so. I believe in a soul. I believe our act of reproduction, the biology involved, is somehow able to invite or achieve a suitable condition for or soul to reside in. If this is true, perhaps a silicone machine may someday achieve a soul and become conscious

👁Artificial immortality YES! l However, it is important to remember that experiments should only be carried out on people who want to take part in the research. Respecting people in their choices and decisions is very important. 👁The use of poor people as guinea pigs and others who don't want to take part in new tests (experiments, innovations) on their bodies must be opposed with all our might.

If AI comes to help people, great. We have to be vigilant and create a panic button to stop the BIG EYE (HAL) if something goes wrong, and create a group to keep an eye on the new creators and prevent this constantly learning artificial mind from being used to produce BAD things. NEW TECHNOLOGIES YES! l Evolve and innovate without crushing people.

biological brain can translate raw information to be complete information. for example: when first time human touch the fire they dont know how it feel until he feel the sensation of burn, then the brain translate it as "HOT". AI just transfer existing Complete information to their database (Fire is hot). but what happen when the AI meet something new information, and that is not on their database. can AI named the new thing?

I wonder if we will one day reach the human "soul" or "spirit" that has left the body. I have always speculated one day that will be possible. I'm 76. In a short time, I will not have life as we know it here on Earth. So much if not everything is recyclable. It seems possible to me maybe likely that life goes on. 95% of the universe is a mystery to us. We have to keep looking to see if there is any answer to the question: Does life goes on? I am not into religion, but I am open to unanswered questions about whether a form of life continues after death.
