Hey Art, thank for your very detailed email replies to me on all things BenQ. I ended up purchasing another PD3200 to match my other one. One for home locations and the other for work. I do wish it had the looks and the Thunderbolt capability like the newer PD3220 but I understand because of the price. Hard to beat the PD3200 for the money. Now going to invest in calibrator them. Thank you again!

It would be nice if you did a video talking about the specs & target audience of some of the lower-end BenQ monitors [like the BL2420PT (specifically), or any of the eyeCare & GW monitors]. I realize that the more expensive models are the company's primary focus, but there are people out here who've bought and own older Benq monitors as well, and would like to hear a little about what the thinking process & motives were behind the making of these monitors, too... and this isn't a gripe or complaint, it's just a comment. I'm a big fan, and appreciate everything you're doing. #ThankYou!

I appreciate your videos. I do have some questions as related to what I am using PD2700u. I have all three video inputs being used - HDMI to Nvidia Shield TV , DP mini to USB-C - Mac Mini M1, DP to DP mini /Tb2 MacBook Pro 2015. All of these seem to be working reasonably well with 4k@60. However, on both Macs, I am unable to get additional resolution settings but rather, screen choices for regular, large, larger etc. Now for the questions - 1) Any way to get other resolutions lists rather than the choices for how large or small to make the screen ? 2) What is the correct way to set monitor KVM (2 Macs and the Nvidia)? Presently I have to set the video manually and then* the keyboard/mouse input set up. and the oddest question for you - 3) I am unclear on how "clean" the audio out is with respect to DAC. My ideal would be either clean analogue out to speakers or, is it possible to use one of the USB outputs for digital sound connectivity (say to an external DAC or speakers that take USB input)? Beyond the above, I really do enjoy this monitor (save for the controls though I have gotten used to them). Once I get the above ironed out a bit, I'll feel more than satisfied.
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 3 жыл бұрын
Use the method shown in this video to access the advanced resolution list kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5bTcn2qp7Wggqc 1. Watch the video, tl;dr hold down alt key and click on scale in display preferences, display tab 2. There's a menu in the display that you can set the KVM function to go with a specific input, I would check that out first. It should switch with it. 3. You can still do that, as far as clean, it is to a point, the display does have a DAC when you use the head phone port. By pass it with USB.

Thanks for you great videos. The SW321C seems to be the perfect display for me. But since I don’t need Adobe RGB I was wondering if there is a cheaper display with matte coating, hardware calibration and 32” But I think the PD3220U is not really an alternative option. What do you think, Art?
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 3 жыл бұрын
For that type of extreme matte the only display on the market that have that right now is the SW321C. PD3220U is an alternative but not 1:1. And all BenQ SW and PD display are matted but none of them are as matted as the SW321C

Hi, Thank you for the great video. I just picked up photography as a hobby. And I am looking for a 27" monitor to extent my macbook pro display. However, I am kinda hesitating if I need to get 4k or 2k is good enough. Someone said 4k is too much on 27", 2k or 4k does not make much difference on 27". I am not sure about that.........So you recommend PD2700U or PD2700Q or any other recommendation?
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 3 жыл бұрын
If you are looking at the PD line in the 27" I would consider PD2720U for photo editing because that panel can cover 99% Adobe RGB compared to the other that will give you about 80% Adobe RGB. If you want a 2K and like to save some money I would consider the SW2700PT and you can save even more if you buy refurbished from BenQ website. As far as 2K vs 4K this video might help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJyVZ5iJltBnbbM I would approach this from a need case rather than someone said 4K because or 2K because. Let me know if you have any follow up questions.

I was looking for 27" monitor with accurate colors and high resolutions. I also wanted to print my artwork in the future. I did some research, it said monitor with Adobe RGB has better color over sRGB ,and the color of prints will look same on the monitor that has Adobe RGB. I found out PD2720U has different creative mode for designer and with Adobe RGB but seems like it was discontinued. I was concerned if I should get SW line if I really want to have the accurate color with Adobe RGB. Could I have your suggestion or recommendation, please?

If you want to get the full Adobe RGB color gamut the only line to look at right now is the SW line. You might be able to find PD2720U referb but that may be hard to come by.

If your MacBook Pro is really old then it outputting 8 bit, but most Mac in the past 7-10 years have been outputting 10 bit natively, this is done and handled via macOS, so you should be able to get a 10 bit output on the external display.

Hey Art. I could get a cheap BenQ SW2700PT. However it was released 5 years ago this point. Does it make sense to buy that and do you know if it supports Hardware calibration with the i1 Display Pro Plus? BTW: Is the low frame rate on purpose on the side shots?

Ricky, I think that SW2700PT is still great today and it is still a valid display. It will also work with i1Display Pro Plus. To be honest, I have been using display with and without eye care and I don't notice much of a difference, I usually don't see any flickering at 60 Hz on higher end panel anyways. As for software low blue light mode vs a color mode on the display, I played with it a bit but didn't notice very much visual variation. But each person vision is different. Hi Art, I intend to buy a 16" MacBook Pro and two 32" displays, either SW321C or the PD322. I also have a 27" Wacom display, when I do retouching in Photoshop. I am a "semi-professional" photographer who mainly publish my images on my website, but I do some large prints via a separate printing house and I can do A2 prints at home. Will any of these setups (SW321C and PD322) work for me with the Wacom and MacBook? How sure can I be that the two main displays show the same colours? I also want to travel with only my MacBook Pro. Can I calibrate the built in screen on the MacBook Pro as well as the other three screens?
@ArtIsRight

Every displays can be calibrated. The two external display when you buy the together the calibration will come really close to each other. The laptop, will also calibrate but it won't match the two external display entirely or the Wacom display. You will be able to get work done on the road using your MacBook Pro and when you come back to the external display just hookup your laptop and double check your editing.

The SW lines does come in a 27" 4K as well, the SW271 you might want to considering getting that one, great display, 4K resolution, hardware calibration, no compromise. Check this video out too, it will roughly explain the difference between the SW and PD line kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5m5l6qNbrF-bqc In essence, SW271 can be calibrate to both Adobe RGB and P3, where as the PD can only really be calibrated to P3 color space since it is not a hardware calibrated display. Hope this helps. Please feel free to follow up.

@@ArtIsRight I just came back from watching the comparison between different calibrations! I guess that in the long run if I can it would be better to get a hardware calibrated monitor from the get go. (?) Now what I am thinking is, between the SW271 and the and te 270C, which one do you think would be the better choice, and the one that could last me a good couple of years? (aside from the 2K and 4K difference)

Yes hardware calibrated display will be best. This may help your decision too kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJyVZ5iJltBnbbM Either one will do. Both will last for a long time, what it really comes down to is the 2K vs 4K aspect. Both have USB C, SW271 has 15 Watts Power Delivery (PD), where as the SW270C has 60 Watts PD. But if you really need 4K then go with the SW271

@@ArtIsRight Now that I think about it, I think that when I do video editing the final output would be 1080p anyway (maybe in a few years that would change though) so I think that a 2K monitor would be a better buy. Plus the SW270C is cheaper haha xD, and maybe if in the future i get a USB-C laptop the 60 Watts would be handy. The last thing that makes me wonder if i actually need 4K is that my desktop is kind of small and my sitting distance is around 60-65 cm (or around 25 inches). Or do you think that 2K may suffice?

2K is one of those Swiss army knife too, it will work for almost everything. Most people that get 4K display scale the resolution anyways. So 2K is a safe bet.

Sounds like you have a gaming monitor, it could be a defect, please contact your local BenQ support for help and possibly warranty replacement.

Is there anything extremely similar to the PD3220U, but around the same price and with 100% AdobeRGB?

Not from BenQ, there are other brands but the panel calibration at the factory is not as good as BenQ.

@@ArtIsRight I'll probably get the PD3220U in a couple months then rely on my laptop screen and a filter for Adobe RGB if I ever do have to do a print. Thanks again for these reviews! Super helpful!

What laptop do you have? Also, I know the SW is a premium over PD line but that may be one that you want to consider especially if you print. It will be better than any laptop display for that particular task
@ArtIsRight

I just remembered that we converse in another thread. And based on that conversation, your laptop even-though it supports Adobe RGB, you can't really access it. So my suggest would be to bite the bullet and look at the SW line.

@@ArtIsRight I'll take a look. I was thinking about getting a 100% adobe RGB portable monitor too. I feel like the SWC would be way too much right now, but maybe given an extra few months or if a get a pay bump in the near-ish future.

Does it makes sense to get PD3200U in mid 2021 ? I do 4k video editing and bit of photo editing as well.

If that display spec fits your needs and your budget then why now. The newer models have Thunderbolt with power delivery but if you are going to be using it on a desktop only environment then sure this model will works just fine. LCD panel technology has not change much in the past 5-8 years, some improvements here and there but nothing that makes a drastic difference. If you get this model today, you are still buying a new display.

@@ArtIsRight Thank you so much for your prompt reply on Sunday, Yeah budget is not an option but still it feels odd to buy a monitor that came out in 2017. Spec wise I can't find any other monitor near the PD3200U price range. Right now I am getting at $800.

Again I would look at the spec and price, if that fits your needs the get one. At this point the update models are already out so you have your pick there. It really not as if you are buying all 2017 tech beside USB C. My thoughts ;)

@@ArtIsRight Hardware calibration is not really that important - i've just been given a small allowance from work to buy a second screen to work from home. I work in finance but just started making youtube videos (using an iphone camera!) as a hobby so super new to all this colour space stuff...which is what your channel is helping me learn!. I have a pretty decent 27inch 1440p gaming monitor already (ASUS ROG PG279), so thought I'd add some of my own money to the grant and get something that was larger, higher resolution, sharper with higher PPI and 10bit panel that I could also use to make some basic beginner YT content. 32 inches 4k seems to be what I am looking for (ultrawides are either all the same PPI as my current screen, or if sharper, the same vertical height). From my research, these BenQ monitors are in that sweet spot of price to performance, but totally overkill for my actual work - my Excel colour palette only has about 16 slots!
