***** thanks for the kind words. Yes, my son (now 21) is amazing. Definitely my hero. I'm from the Pittsburgh area. Audio engineer? Not really. I worked in a recording studio in Colorado as a session drummer and did a little bit of engineering but it was more of the placing mics and the outboard stuff. Never really had my hands on the desk. My Dad has his own studio here and we record stuff for friends and our own projects but it's not really a public studio per se. How's the music scene where you are?
@anotherDnightmare8 жыл бұрын
If you're looking for sessions, you may be able to find a smaller studio closer. Sometimes hard to find but they're out there. Because in this day and age, you really don't need to live in one of the Big 4 cities. You can record the parts and send them to whatever studio. When I was in Colorado, the studio I worked for did tracks for an artist but she wanted it mixed and mastered in Dallas. So we did basically what was a 4 song EP and sent everything in an email. Crazy. Because then, you get home a little easier and get to spend time with your son. And believe me... that time goes like lightning. I swear mine was just 5 years old and now he's 21. Best of luck!

rastabg23 There are plenty of good drummers around today. Carey is just one of them. I think his parts are great with tool (for example he has a great taste and doesn't over play with tons of fills). I think his playing is not strong enough with Volto (cause I have in mind all fusion drummers alive today), but that I think is a fun project for him, trying to emulate all those 70's style he loves so much.
@fanta11611 жыл бұрын
desperation mixtape if best or not is a subjective meaning.I think he's the best drummer in the modern age of metal and rock music.But I also admire stewart coopeland for his awesome drumming.
@DesperationmixtapeOrg11 жыл бұрын
yeah. I think the same: the best as "I like him better than this one" is subjective. But since I've studied drums I endlessly listened to a few drummers out there. Certainly I like him more than portnoy (but this is a no-brainer ahah). My judgement was more about his technique and the style. He plays a lot of good stuff in this video but as you can see they put up the tool stuff and no solos or original stuff as for the other videos in the series from vic firth.
@fanta11611 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean.But its really strange to know that here from wikipedia ''Carey has laid claim to various drumming techniques that use sacred geometric figures such as the unicursal hexagram. The final product is very recognizable, fluent drumming, although to him it is much more: the official Tool website claims that Danny uses drumming as a ritual similar to occult rituals''So I think its a really crazy technique to play drums.Portnoy is a brilliant drummer too,but i don't like dream theater,its just not my taste of music.

That's because Maynard leaves them all to their own to do all the instrumental stuff. They then send him the finished records and he writes the lyrics and the vocal melody on his own. His contribution has always been the last to their work. I recomend you check out this podcast Danny did a couple of days before the latest album's release. He went more in-depth how their process works and it boiled down to it that once they were finally done after years of working on their respective instruments and melodys they all sent Maynard the tapes with "Finished" written on it so he could finally get his stuff on it and the record be completed.

I am not a musician. I love and acknowledge the greatness of Bonham, Moon and Peart, etc. I more personally love Bruford, Mastelotto and Harrison (KC). But to my untrained ears, this fukin guy is the most precise, musical and innovative drummer of all time. His sound is so clean it never ceases to amaze me

Loved drumming since I was a kid. Danny Carey is the one who challenged my thinking on drumming.

+avaris1280 they don't really write the albums together. Maynard doesn't come up with lyrics or melody until the songs are basically written and recorded. That's when his creative process begins, so it's like an echo of the years of preparation that the instrumentalists of the band have already gone through. They create the songs, and then Maynard listens to everything and comes in with his parts to complement the rest of the sound. That's why he is such an amazing lead singer and sounds so great with the band

Fear Inoculum really opened my eyes/ears/mind to Danny and his playing. I hadn't been indifferent to his playing on the previous albums, but his work on the new album really grabbed me and so the reason I'm here.

I'm 56 and have been to a shitload of concerts. I saw TOOL a few years ago, broke my leg that day but went anyway. Ended up in a killer seat, no one to fuck with me, just me and TOOL. Danny gave me the only drum solo I've ever really enjoyed. I usually take a piss, but not this time. I spent the time trying to pull my jaw off the floor I was so amazed. As a 46 year musician I appreciate a band that can pull off their shit live and this was the case. like a giant set of headphones! Truly amazing.

He was a monster in college. His technique has always been flawless. That's when it all started coming together. He got exposed to all kinds of heavyweights. I remember sitting with him at a Simon Phillips clinic and PASIC in 83 and watching the arrows Simon was shooting strike home with Danny. That and King Crimson Discipline. That also hugely affected him.
