Hi Jess. With the water brushes, you can see the water fill the feed as you squeeze it and as you hold the brush on a paper towel you can watch it empty as well. It helps to keep an eye on that as you paint so you do not flood the page if you don't want to. Thanks for the video!

Great haul! The Sennelier oil pastels are fabulous and they have a good variety of traditional portrait colours and nice dark darks, but the oil in them does seep through regular papers so that's just something to be aware of. I tend to use a sandpaper type surface with them (Mi-Teintes Touch or Art Spectrum Colourfix) for more finished works, or just separate sheets of a regular pastel paper if it's just a sketch. My favourite brand of oil pastels overall is Caran d'Ache Neopastel because they're less slippery. They may not be as widely available in the States, though. Have fun! :)

Great video! It's fun seeing what you're working on. As a note, water based pens can be waterproof! The pigma microns are water based pigment pens but are waterproof. I think it all depends on the particles making up the ink held in the water solution. Kind of like how both gouache and acrylic are water based paints but only one is waterproof.

Hullo Jess, sweet supplies! I always get a charge out of looking at new supplies! You’re an accomplished artist so I don’t think I’m sending you new information but surface is so important in pastels, this is something I have been learning as I am relatively new to pastels, oil and soft. It has been my experience that you get the best results in oil pastel sticks with the better or more expensive brands. With soft sticks there is a little more latitude than what I have found with the oil pastels! I experienced shards and even chunks falling off my surfaces with cheaper oil pastels. I have enjoyed working on several sanded surfaces and velours too! I look forward to seeing you create with these supplies! Have a lovely day.🎉

Hi Jess! I always enjoy what you share on KZbin with your community and wanted to share another art store with you. I’m not in any way affiliated with this place - I just shop here a lot! It’s Cheap Joe’s, a small family-owned art store based in NC. They have really competitive pricing (they often beat Blick’s and Jerry’s). And they have their own line of supplies only carried by their store. All the ones I’ve tried so far seem to me to be very high-quality. One is their Kilimanjaro watercolor paper (I have read somewhere that Fabriano makes it?). Another is American Journey watercolors made by DaVinci with some unique colors that DaVinci doesn’t offer. They also have Joe Miller’s canvases, which get really good reviews - those are the next on my list to try. I don’t know if you’d find any items here you’d like, but I wanted to share with you just in case. I hope you have a great day!

I love oil pastels so I can't wait to see you explore them. Sennelier's are incomparable in softness and people either use them exclusively or as final layers over their other oil pastels. The Ernegi are a lesser known, but good brand from what I've heard. I haven't tried brands enough to have a favourite to recommend, but the Caran d'Ache are really good as well and if a lack of lightfastness ratings doesn't bother you, you can't beat the price of the Mungyo Artists Soft Oil Pastels.

Hi Jess...with regards to your comment about a neutral tint and the brand M. Graham @ min 13:41....M. Graham watercolors are gorgeous. However, if you plan to use them for plein air sketching be aware the binder is honey and they do stay sticky in the palette. If you prefer your paints in your plein air palette to dry between outings I have found that to be a bit of a messy issue. However, straight from the tube they are beautiful pigments.
