I tried for an hour. Woke up in the ER. I apparently passed out from no oxygen. The nurse asked me what happened. I told her I was trying to whistle with my fingers but was a dismal failure. She then says, "You mean like this?" Now I can't hear anymore.

I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT!!!!! The one secret that I couldn’t find in any videos is that the idea of curving your tongue over is to get the tongue out of the way, *not* to make air flow over it in any way. So relax your tongue and just let it naturally push against your fingers and stay in the bottom of your mouth-don’t use any muscles in your tongue at all. If you do this, all the other tips they give you start working. Also found that the more of an ‘ok’ symbol I did with the 2 finger version, the easier it became to whistle. Pls like if this works for you so more ppl can see it! It is so satisfying to have finally learned how to do this.

For anyone who's struggling, I found that no matter how many videos you watch or how many articles you read, the principles behind the whistle remain the same. It's all about finding your own personal sweet spot, and once you find it, you'll never forget. I was just about to give up for good when I suddenly (and very randomly) found the perfect combination of tongue curl and finger placement to get a nice loud whistle. Just keep at it! DUDE!!!! I've been trying for over 50 years to learn how to whistle like this. My dad had the most awesome whistle. He would whistle and we would come running from everywhere. 2 strong memories. First, I was about 7, living in Newark, NJ. I usually hung out with the older kids. We were playing touch football. Our block against the next block over. We were playing them on their block. My dad blew his unique whistle. The older guys from our block grabbed me and we ran to see what my father wanted. I was amazed at that. Second, I'm 20 years old and was downtown Newark. It was the first of the month, which we called mothers day. Downtown was packed. I was about a block away from the main intersection downtown. I was talking to some friends and heard my father's whistle. I can't see him, but followed the sound. When I got to my father, he had this look on his face. It looked to me like pride. It was a smerkish grin. He was calling me because my girlfriend at the time, saw him and asked had he seen me. I then realized that he was smirking because he knew that his training had sunk in. Will never forget that considering he passed away last year. So, learning how to whistle really means a lot to me. Thanks bro.

I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT. Place the joint of your finger tips onto the top of your curved lip, only a finger tip is needed, relax your tongue and push your fingers onto the curved tip and ONLY your finger tips should be making contact, make the A shaped index and middle fingers tighter or wider depending how high you want the pitch, and see which has the best sound to your liking, more air means deeper = wider. Less air means higher pitch = tighter, make sure you take a couple breathes beforehand if you've been trying for the past hour.

Awesome. Finally pulled it off after many hours of no success throughout the years. Got the two handed method for a few attempts / seconds after watching this video after practicing for an hour (and lost it after that), then got it somewhat consistently the next day (and even more consistently the day after). Then after figuring out my mistakes, got the "ok" single hand whistle somewhat consistently, although still need practice. Some pointers that worked for me: - Practice in front of a sink with a mirror. You'll want to rehydrate and wet your lips, and you can see better where your finger placement is and how much of your tongue is folded. - Make sure your fingers are keeping your tongue completely FLAT when the tongue is folded. It's very easy for your tongue to get out of position /or fold only partially. - You may have luck by having the bottom of your tongue PUSH BACK against your fingers (but still make sure tongue is completed folded flat). - Your fingers should NOT be jamming your tongue all the way to the back of your throat. Your folded tongue should be near the front of your mouth. Adjust how much of the tip of the tongue you're folding. For me, my tongue is folded about a finger nail's length. - Your lips / mouth should only cover the top of your teeth, and then a little more. i.e. you shouldn't have to "stretch" to the max your mouth to as far back as you can to cover as much teeth as possible.

Art of Manliness I struggled a little bit to get it perfect, but I live in a country where almost every one knows how to do that (using fingers on both hands, on one hand, or even no fingers at all, drives me wild) .So sometimes I would walk around on the street, with my fingers in my mouth making weird sounds, and some random guys walking by would just blow a perfect whisle out to show off a little bit. It kept me going so I got the technique right and it's pretty good now.

I’m actually a pretty skilled what I’d call “tune whistler”. I can whistle any song almost perfectly in various ranges and pitches. But this type if “stadium whistling” I just can’t figure out. I think it’s my prior skill set of tune whistling that makes this so hard for me to grasp because the is a complete different technique and kind of whistling. But I know I’ll get it, and you will too. When I was a child I practiced for years of trying to whistle and one day the faintest sound just came. Now I can tune whistle better than anyone I’ve ever met. Hopefully I can learn the same with his high pitched kind of stadium whistle. Practice on my friend.

Try again, but this time think about this: the tongue almost doesn't do anything. You're just pushing it out of the way. Don't press your tongue to the roof of your mouth. That will ruin it. The actual whistle happens at the lips, at the hole you make with the help of your fingers. Finding the sweet spot is just a matter of making that hole the right size by squeezing your hands closer or relaxing them more. Again, lower your tongue and keep it out of the way. Let me know if that helped!

For those of you interested in a similar result, but without having to put your fingers in your mouth, try this variation- Bottom lip over the teeth like in the video, but raise your top lip up to expose your top row of teeth. Bring your tongue forward, and make a bowl shape, curving the sides of your tongue up along your top molars and leaving a very small hole just below your front teeth. Blow through that hole, and you'll get a nice loud whistle- and you don't have to put your fingers in your mouth.

My fathers cousin had the strongest loudest finger whistle I’ve ever heard. We lived in NYC and every time he came by to visit, he didn’t need to call, this was early cellphone days, he didn’t need to knock or ring a bell. Wether you were expecting him or not, you knew when he was outside. He’d just go to the side where your window was and let out a taxicab whistle, windows open closed didn’t matter, you heard him and knew he was outside. I thought that was so cool but never thought to ask him to teach me. Now he have internet and KZbin. I’ve learned a lot like teaching myself to knit and crochet, basic piano skills lil bit of gardening, how to make friends with ravens and crows, their smart and capable of mimicking what you say that’s why I’m making friends with the local crows and 2 ravens and it’s working! Now I think Ill give this whistle a try. It’s an easy one I can practice anywhere so it should mean I’ll pick it up fairly fast because it’s a skill you can practice at inside outside, watching tv, driving and so on!

every video on youtube says the same damn obvious thing. I'm going to start a series of videos with this level of instruction: How to cook: 1. go to the store and buy food. 2. go to the kitchen and keep experimenting until you make something that tastes amazing. How to drive: 1. put the key in the ignition and turn until the engine starts to run. 2. put the car in gear and press the gas pedal. 3. keep experimenting with the steering until you don't hit anything.

Even though I knew how to finger whistle since February 2023, I kind of struggled with changing the pitch, and seeing from how you finger whistled using the 2 handed method, the harder you blew, the higher the pitch, but the softer you blew, the lower the pitch. I might experiment with that to see if I can finally learn to change the pitch!

After about half an hour, I’m getting pretty consistent results. The tips everyone else is giving are spot-on, but I noticed something that might help, too. If anyone’s ever used an acorn cap to produce the same sort of whistle, I notice that the gap between your fingers and bottom lip is the same triangle shape that you want to try and make with the acorn cap method. Hope that was almost descriptive enough to help someone 😅
