That big battle where Dewalt lost his army at the 6 oclock base was nuts, and something Arty didn't mention but after that fight Jaedong's first move was to make 17 DRONES! Going from 60 workers to almost 80 and from there it's like wow. Zerg with like 10 hatcheries, almost 80 drones, you can just A+move multiple control groups over and over at that point and basically its GG, protoss just can't macro enough units long-term
@BlahBlah-uh2yi8 ай бұрын
Seems like DeWalt was in a good spot until that throw. DeWalt on 4 base and JD just mining his 5th.
@Ziegfried828 ай бұрын
This just shows you can't fight a top zerg without reavers mixed in. There was zero chance he was going to successfully push through at 6 oclock even when all his storms were perfect. There wasn't even any plagues or dark swarms here, shows just how strong lurker/hydra really is.
@sulik6828 ай бұрын
Lurker/Hydra but also HIGH GROUND. How many dozens of dragoon shots missed over that fight because of high ground. @@Ziegfried82
@celzolsen89888 ай бұрын
He should have tried to storm up-hill first instead of going face-first in there and commit blindly. Storm so he can move up with his own units and claim high-ground. Dunno what he expected. He fought for 30 seconds up-hill@@Ziegfried82
@MarcoAshford3 ай бұрын
@@Ziegfried82Pure hydra lurker can’t win vs P deathball. You need swarm still. So many games P wins without reaver against Zerg. Here Zerg wins because Jaedong has more units and high ground, P’s main DPS is dragoon and run into high ground fight is just dumb move. In an even condition, Zerg will lose more resources than P in a battle like this without swarm. P likes holding stationary hug and fight, Zerg likes swarm and create chaos with lings everywhere close combat.

Artosis keeps saying "out-macroing" but it wasn't just macro what made Jaedong be ahead here. I mean sure, his macro obviously was good. But the reason he went ahead is because he had really good scouting and unit positioning. He had overlords coating the map constantly alerting him about Dewalt's unit spread and movement, and he planned the two flanks that won him the game like 2 minutes in advance before the actual thing happened. He also baited Dewalt to attack him on that front, by only keeping a few units in the front, and hiding the rest in the back. If Dewalt knew his entire Army was there, he'd just turn around and secure more bases. tl;dr Jaedong is not just a macro player. he plays really good mindgames and has really good scouting and reads on his opponent's mentality. This is what makes his unit feels stronger than they normally are. He makes traps and forces his opponents into uncomfortable situations which was not what they planned for.
@Ziegfried828 ай бұрын
Dewalt panicked near the end knowing that the longer the game went on the weaker protoss gets in PvZ. He knew he had to do a big attack..but without any reavers there was zero chance of pushing into entrenched hydra/lurker like that. If he had chosen not to attack he was done for either way.
@AqoCyrale8 ай бұрын
@@Ziegfried82 not entirely true, yes PvZ lategame gets harder for P, but suiciding your army is not the correct decision to make. He should have expanded himself and started working on reaver tech and prevent Z from grabbing more expansions while trying to harass with storm/reaver/dt drops.
@JakeGittes846 ай бұрын
It's just a way of emphasizing the absolute horde of units that jaedong brought in the flank and reinforcement, it's not as if artosis is saying "yeah jaedong did nothing but out-macro him". And you know that, and Arty knows that. Maybe he could've highlighted certain moves more, sure, but come on.

@@BlahBlah-uh2yi It's not even that... It's that Protoss units all cost 2 supply and Hydras cost 1 and Zerglings cost half of a supply. So if it's same supply Zerg has more units.
@alexfriedman21527 ай бұрын
@@StormgateShorts lol what??? Snow has 250 APM and Stork has just over 200. With Protoss you don't need a lot of APM. Zerg and Terran need 300 at pro level but Protoss only needs 200 at Pro level.

Dewalt looking pretty strong. If you would allow me an armchair general: His micro, macro, and overall decision-making is super solid. In this game I think his weakness really down to a poor understanding of his tactical situation. That manoeuvre would have been much stronger had JD's forces been concentrated toward the left, but a lack of scouting/awareness from Dewalt caught him unaware of the size of the forces that would surround him. Perhaps he doesn't feel confident taking it to the long game, but I think he still had a shot at recovering and going for that instead of doing the same exact push the 2nd time. I think the play here could have been perching himself atop the high ground for the bottom right quadrant to deny JD easy access to that sector, which perhaps could have prompted JD to instead be the one to attack Dewalt from the low ground. Sure taking that spot could make him vulnerable to a frontal assault to his main but holding the high ground at the bottom right would always be a present threat to JD's middle position or threaten his army attacking Dewalt's main from the rear. JD had the right idea here. He threatened to attack consistently enough by prodding on Dewalts part of the map, but never actually showed a serious intention of fully committing to a frontal attack beyond the early game. Even though he probably recognized his supply advantage he would rather gamble on relying on a drop play to supplement a frontal attack than actually commit his entire force to a single combined attack. I don't really like this map tbh. The defensive positioning to just way too strong. Especially in a game if both players are evenly matched, secured and control the high ground on 3 bases, and have a good read of what the other is doing. Unless you attack with a much bigger force you end up overly reliant on your opponent screwing up.
