I've been an Arturia user since 2009 if you can believe it. The V Collection is basically a synth museum and it's an absolute steal for what you are getting. I love how they not only go out of their way to be as faithful to the original as possible but also give it some additional (and tasteful) character. I was really happy with the latest version of their CS-80 having MPE support. This really brings it closer to the OG synth than ever since a key component of that synth is its expressiveness. (This is why Vangelis championed it throughout his life.)

I was lucky enough in the early 80's to have the opportunity to study and teach in an electronic music studio at Laval University in Quebec. We had Modular Moog, Mini Moog, Arp 2600, Synclavier. I had a Jupiter, eventually a DX7 etc. I own that VCollection and it is almost perfect. Unbelievable we can have all that sonic power mow for that money. But not for the faint of heart. You need patience and dedication to go through this stuff. I also have NI Komplete Ultimate and the two combine marvelously well. Endless sonic possibilities.

Another big fan of the V Collection here. It really is extraordinarily good value; the Fairlight CMI is modelled with all its sample and sound manipulation screens available to use so you can indulge your inner Trevor Horn 'til the cows come home and I can confirm that it'll even load disk images from the real thing. For a synth nerd like me, it's heaven. Arturia's "Pigments" synth is also worth getting; it's one of the most user-friendly software synths I have used, and I've used a few...

I have version 8 and it gets a lot of use from me. However, I think it's worth noting that they do not give you the sound of vintage units; they give you the sound of a pristine and newly built unit. I've heard people say it makes it a bad emulation and that it sound worse than the original units they've used, but I'd say it's the correct way to go. You'll have to add the grit and dirt yourself, meaning you can flavour the sound to taste.

Also, their customer relations is great (possibly they think I'm French??? I'm not). Remember the good old days, Guy? When you wanted to layer two (hardware synths) you'd need a MIDI cable and some prayers. Times are good now. You've transported us back to the early 80s. No bad thing at all. Brian Eno & Pink Floyd seemed to be able to get appealing (and unappealing) noises out of the EMS Synthi. I am scared pf programming so I am grateful for presets. I do have Arturia V Collection 7 on my old computer and bought it as part of a colaboration deal with Steinberg in 2014 and at the time consisted of analog synthesizers including the Jupiter, Moog and Yamaha CS-80 and Spark consists of a gamut if classic drum machines including the TR-707, Drumtrax even the Linndrum along with many analog drum machines. But now I am on a new computer and also unemployed sadly I can't afford to buy V Collection 9 but there are also great freeware alternatives to some of these synths and even free VSTs and sample packs of some of these drum machines so I will be using freeware alternatives to these synthesizers going forward. Informative and entertaining. I like guitars and orchestral music, so I'm of the opinion that more retro-sounding synthesizers sound more fitting and organic in those settings (imagine a prog-rock-keyboardist in a natural habitat). Concerning synths, we are spoiled for choice and the point of entry into the synth world is a bit lower than full-on orchestral scoring both financially and know-how (in spite of leaps and bounds in that regard). I'm convinced that even freeware synth plugins can get you a capable sound that non-connoisseurs cannot discern once all the other elements are in the mix.
