Thanks you for your video Arvid. Most of studio / normal users don't have 2 rtx 8000 unfortunately. perhaps disable one of your card and load a serious 3d scene instead of theses small object. No offense to your superbe job, its just to give us a true feedback regarding our 'average system power' :) The reality vs the dream vs what company want to sell you is different :)

Thank you sir for all your efforts. Quick question if you don't mind... I just starting to learn arnold for both Maya and houdini.. So is the 600 series where I should start watching your tutorials? And just to confirm, the work flow should be the same in houdini... Correct? Would really appreciate it if you could let me know if this is where I should begin. Thanks again
@arvidurs4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ram! I would recommend to start from the beginning. A few things changed in the shader, but essentially the idea and concept is still the same. And yes it applies to Houdini the same way. Render settings and things like that are a bit different between DCCs. But again the concept is the same.

All the features you are talking about until 9min were there in 2018 and 2019. Color correction and other arnold nodes were never supported which sux really hard. I don't know any instance when I use raw textures without adding the range/cc/multiply/mix/layers nodes.

You are sure that Arnold 6 is faster that Redshift ? I am under Redshift 3.0.08 and it was really faster that the last Arnold 5 gpu beta
@sachak4 жыл бұрын
@@sazemard72260 The last Arnold GPU renderer was just the beta and it was buggy and terribly slow, I am testing this Arnold 6 as we speak. The video is a bit of a false representation of how fast it is as not many people are rocking 2x Quadro RTX 8000 GPU's in their systems. I am testing on my home pc and so far the render took 2min to start up and that's just a sphere on a plane. This is on a single 1080ti. I will test tomorrow on my work pc which is a threadripper with 3x 1080ti and 1x 1070. I will report back with the speed of that.

@sachak4 жыл бұрын
procentpisz will definitely put my test results up tomorrow to give a more realistic representation of how fast it is on a reasonable system compared to redshift. I’m more interested in the initial load up times than anything else. I’ll also preload gpu cache to give it a fair comparison. I also want to see how it does with texture heavy scenes that contain lots of nodes which is where Arnold 5 gpu failed every time. Would just crash or throw an error and refuse to even start a render.

There is just one thing that disturbs me: the lag of hypershade : ( I can not believe that it's not posible to cut it down somehow and make it independent to render or viewport workflow. When youu made the dust, could you just use one shader and combine each channels together (like model's roughness and dust roughness )? Or is it industry standard to do it two shaders
@arvidurs4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Before it was a standard to mix the channels so you don’t need to mix shaders. Now with shader closures you can easily just mix and reuse existing shaders. Both ways work equally good.

So, with the new Houdini Solaris implementation do you think that in the future could displace Maya for that kind of work?. I am really worry about the future of Maya because I've seen very good updates in other packages like Blender and Houdini. Do you think is time to see to another packages? Could Houdini be the next standard on the industry? Thanks

It’s a question very difficult to answer. Honestly I haven’t worked with blender so can’t give any infos.
