And if memory serves, one of the only productions that had permission to film in the actual Hell hole under Paris. Almost every corpse they punched was a well known extra from the underworld. They even let them use their actual alchemy stone on retainer for the latter parts of production. The sorts of problems that arose because of this are endemic of the strikes going on today.

Of course she would know what she was talking about before she found the stone. She educated herself on the subject and didnt just go blindly looking for it. There is just something about this movie, I’ve watched it 4-5 times and always find something new. It’s so good So if you don’t get it, the stone worked on souxsie because they had not gone through to the below yet. Once they went to opposite land/hell she became the stone but only after she returned it, so there was a stone above and she became the stone below. Also the dude on the throne was supposed to be satan, and some say the woman from the club/cult leader was Marie Antoinette as it showed the year of her death on the wall when that one guy fell down the well and died.

Fun fact: The description for this movie on Netflix is "A beautiful tomb raider and her crew hunt for treasure in the catacombs of Paris and find themselves in a hellish underworld." Why they included that she’s not just a tomb raider, but a beautiful one at that, I really don’t know. Sounds like the Netflix description writer had a bit of a crush.

The novel isnt Daunte's inferno. that is the game. the novel is called The Divine Comedy by Dante Aligheri. And the movie really uses that as a structure. It's basically another retailing of it. That is why I love it. It goes beyond a simple scary movie. It has a part of great literature woven into the story.

Btw, the girl in the club and her doing the seance is like a visual representation of the Limbo. the area between hell and earth. where the people who dont believe in god are like the philosophers are. Another visual is the little stream of water where the second lead sees his brother is the Stix river where all the souls pass through.

Underrated horror. Mainstream critics dunked on this movie if I'm remembering correctly. Partially because the proliferation of found footage horror during the 00s to the early 10s so there's a bit of exhaustion setting in at that point in time.

This movie was really good for a pov movie. Interesting points from the movie: • Siouxsie 'the banshee' is named after Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie and The Banshees. • The title of the film comes from Masonic teachings and lore which in turn is based heavily on Christian language and belief. Specifically being transcribed from a part of the "Lord's Prayer" in which the phrase 'on Earth as it is in Heaven' refers to God's will being carried out both in Heaven and on Earth as he sees fit. • Ben Feldman (George) actually suffers from minor claustrophobia. He had to keep taking breaks to cope with it. • As part of the promotion for the film, Felix Kjellberg (AKA PewDiePie) traveled through the Paris Catacombs. • The 'hole' the 3 jump down to escape 'hell' is possibly a reference to Dante's Inferno: to escape hell Dante has to climb down Satan's hairy belly and into his navel, which - it is said - is the center of the earth. Here gravity is reversed, down becomes up, hence the jump and fall return them to street level above. • When the group enters the first tunnel, they encounter La Taupe, who was believed to be dead for 2 years. La Taupe is, in fact, dead and is stuck in Limbo. This is proven by La Taupe's inhuman speed to move through corridors. Also, later on when the group goes underwater and emerges, they are soaking wet, while La Taupe is completely dry. In Dante's Inferno, the First Circle of Hell is Limbo. Limbo is where souls go when they've done no evil but haven't done enough good to get into Heaven. •The cave with the writing, "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here" is not actually the Gates of Hell as some believe. The actual Gates of Hell is the hidden entrance that Papillon uses to smuggle the group into the Catacombs. Shortly after the group enters, Papillon instructs they climb up through bones. As they climb, the tunnel collapses behind them and the group ends up in the same room they just were in. Their only option is to listen to La Taupe who says, the only way out is down. In Dante's Inferno, once Dante enters Hell, he is unable to leave the same way he came. He must continue downward through Hell where the only exit is at the very bottom of Hell, which is exactly what happens to the group.
@fanvcritic
@fanvcritic Жыл бұрын
That last point you made also coincides with when scarlet said that they would be force to crawl on their bellies through the entrance of hell. They crawled through those bones and it felt more like hell than the supposed gates of hell were at! I like that point!

I've always thought this film was clever and quite well made. I've always believed when they escaped at the end that they were in an alternate universe Paris, and I'd really love to see a sequel where they are trapped in a terrifying other world a la Silent Hill. The Paris Catacombs are amazing. I was down there by myself for a few hours and felt incredibly serene.

This movie is one of the best found-footage genre movie. Easily at least 65-70% ratings/reviews in my personal opinion. Don’t trust or look into other people’s ratings/reviews. Especially those stupid critics one. Cause they are very subjective and biased and would always look into or find faults on technicality stuffs, rather than just simply try to enjoy a movie as what it should be. Sometimes, not everything needed to be stated or mentioned clearly to the viewer or audience in order to understand everything correctly. It is what it is. Need not have to dwell too much on it. Just follow the flow of the movie or ride along on the journey with the characters/story in the movie. Always give benefit of doubts to everything unclear, uncertain or unexplained in the movie. And enjoy it as it is. Cause in life, it is just like that. Most of the time we were involved in a scenario/situation/circumstance or moment where we don’t quite understand it fully, yet still have to deal with it and move forward. Movie is an art 🖼️ Learn more on how to enjoy it😊

I do think the reviews is because it DOESN'T follow the usual tropes. and people actually survive at the end. and honestly. i LOVE FF films, but i do dislike how so many do the "everyone must die at the end" even to the point of making the "found" aspect really suspect. like one where the protags and their camera, end up being digested in the stomach of a giant demon. i love the fact that not only did the main protags survive, but so did a random guy that was with them.

One of my favourite found footage films 😁 i remember entering a competition WB did years ago on FB when the film was being promoted & i won 🙌🏻 i got merchandise for the film which included a red notebook, a headlight & certificate from WB & a really cool travel bag which all had the film logo on them 😁

That's super cool. One of the better for sure. That being said, please don't try and navigate the Paris catacombs now. (Unless you take me with you. Though I'm terrified of small spaces.)

Yay! This is one of my October favourites 😅❤ Loved the plot for this one, and as a claustrophobe who's been stuck underground before, I unapologetically freak out during every damn self torturous rewatch 😂😂😂

This is an excellent movie!!! Just all around, the filming was probably scary as all get out, yet satisfying.

This film did EXTREMELY well for its budget of 4.8 million dollars, most of which was used on location. It made 80 million.

As somebody who isnt the biggest found footage fan this movie was super good and I love the lore snd story the setting was amazing and they really went into the catacombs but i believe they made sure not to actually touch anything and whatever they did was a prop this movie for me was a 10/10 with great jump scares and I love the ending. love the channel and I was so happy to see my favorite due always super fun when its Greg and Rozy plus I find her voice very soothing.

Great reaction/review! I really like this movie, very solid found footage. And Roxy should absolutely watch Paranormal Activity! And my other found footage recommendation is The Taking of Deborah Logan, that one is reaaaallly good and I don't think it gets talked about enough

They said that Souxie's sin was how she didn't bother to go look for La Toupe when he disappeared. And since you guys couldn't understand what Zed said his sin was, let me explain. What he said was "I have a child I have never seen. I know it's mine, but I deny it." During the scene of the movie where they couldn't hear anything and then they saw a little boy with a stripped shirt somewhere in the darkness to which Zed looked shocked to see, that was supposed to be his son. I could be wrong but when we see the cloaked person's face that was sitting in the chair, it kinda looked like the face of a child. Zed was the one who saw it when he told Scarlett and George to run. I do agree that the movie is better than what Rotten Tomatoes says. This was a great found footage horror movie.
