As big as a car: Huge Slingshot Cannon in Action

On December 30th, 2010, The Slingshot Channel presented a functional "desktop size" slingshot cannon. It fires 8 mm steel balls.
Finally, the model was turned into reality! 10 times bigger than the model, it fires 80 mm steel balls now... with impressive force.
The huge amount of rubber (6 full Thera Band Gold stripes per side, 72 times stronger than "hunterbands" for conventional slingshots) propels a steel boule/petanque ball fast enough so it flies 200 meters (220 yards).
See how it smashes beer barrels and even a car... lots of slow motion is included.
The winch allows insane draw weights. Here, more than 200 kg was employed. In combination with the "barrel length" of 3 meters (10 ft), it achieves firearm like energy levels and the momentum of a giant sledge hammer.

their problems really were time and lack of resources, they were running out of oil, rubber, and everything else. the german engineers were trying to get tanks to run on burning wood, and they kinda succeeded. the rubber they were using was really low quality too, which could be why they made so many half-tracked and tracked designs for light vehicles

My calculations say this slingshot is 110,850 joules, the energy is about the same as a cannon and the kinetic energy of Joerg's truck at 34 km/h (he stated the weight of it in another video). Very powerful. EDIT: sorry made a miscalculation don't what it was but this cannon is actually around 6,000 joules EDIT 2: 5,883 joules EDIT 3: So more power than a .300 win mag cartridge

If 200 Kg (2000 N) of force is the AVERAGE force acting on the ball, then the energy delivered amounts to F·ds = 2000 N * 3 m = 6000 J, no matter what the projectile is. Now for the velocity. The density of steel is something between 7.75 to 8.05 g/cm3 according to Teh Googlez, I shall average it to 7.9 for the calculations. I was not surprised that the steel balls didn't knock holes into the car. The balls may have been heavy but due to the lack of velocity, there was not enough kinetic energy to achieve this. Mind you, if that had hit a person, the person wouldn't be alive to tell the story of how painful it was. The result may not have been a hole but would have wreaked havoc on say, the chest area.

after watching one of his newest videos then coming back here, I've noticed, over the years he's gained both weight and muscle, and oddly enough, his accent seems to have become stronger despite having been using english so often in his videos. In these older videos he seemed more like he was doing this for fun alone, now he does it for both fun and a living, all in all, I think the quality of his builds has increased greatly, and he's gotten a little more entertaining, he's aged well these past 5 years.
