I am 73 years old. I was diagnosed with CHS 7 years ago. MY symptoms were severe. Stomach pain so severe, it completely disabled me and drove me multiple times to the ER. I've been a daily cannabis user for over 50 years. I decided to quit cannabis in hopes my vomiting and stomach pain would go away. It didn't work and after 60 days with zero cannabis use, I then had another attack. Most troubling was the fact that my gastro doctor doubted I had not used any cannabis for two months and me feel like I was a drug addict. Long story short, when complaining to my primary health care physician, he sent information to a specialist in my state that did a video intake with me soon after. It was recommended that I try a medication I could order from a Canadian pharmacy. 3 weeks later, my new medication arrived. My cost was 15 cents per pill taken twice a day. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ATTACK IN TWO YEARS! I share this to say, the CAUSE of symptoms is not always clear and kudos to my family doctor who listened to me and did not minimize my pain and sought help for me that changed everything. NO VOMITING OR BELLY PAIN FOR TWO YEARS and I still consume cannabis.

Some things that need to be mentioned. All of the physicians in the US so far have never had training about marijuana in school. And most of them have never even once tried Marijuana to even know the experience. In addition, the accepted research has never been done due to marijuana scheduling. So, using them as a top educational resource is a mistake. The best place to get educated on the uses and results being experienced by patients is to interview the cannabis bud tenders that interact with patients every day over a period of years. Because marijuana has been classified federally as a schedule I drug, the amount of research needed has never been done, at least in human trials. But, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence and research not meeting the requirements of the medical community. Once marijuana is removed from schedule I (because it does not qualify per the criteria), more valid research will occur. And I am very excited about the future, because then people will really know of the true benefits, and any negative consequences.
@edwardlulofs4442 ай бұрын
I have seen this suppression of research my entire life. Every 8-10 years, an assistant professor is hired and spends years working through the be bureaucratic government process to perform controlled, scientific research Only to be fired on the eve of actually performing the research. How are we supposed to learn about the significant benefits and infrequent major medical and psychological problems that ensue from cannabis use? There are certainly some people that experience huge problems with cannabis and large numbers of people who have no problems with use if rigorous scientific research continues to be suppressed?

As everyone has different chemistry anything will affect differently. Doctors cannot spend enough time with their patients (spending most of their time doing paperwork for insurance purposes) My MD is both eastern and western trained, doesn’t do insurance and makes house calls! While I have insurance I’d rather pay her out of pocket for reasonable diagnosis, and get on with my life. Smoke pot in teeny weeny doses now and then when I garden, bike ride along the ocean and listen to music. Giving up alcohol 38 years ago was the best decision I’ve ever made. 💜💕💜💕

One major issue that is not discussed enough, or not openly, regularly spoken about both in the medical/health field and in the cannabis community is the sometimes negative (or even very serious) drug interactions that can occur with some cannabinoids, especially CBD as it seems to be the most popular for so many ailments and is non-intoxicating. My point being many of these negative effects that seem to come from cannabis are in fact side-effect interactions with a variety of medications, supplements, etc. The Indiana University Department of Medicine have provided an extensive list of pharmaceutical drugs and medications which shouldn’t be taken with CBD, among other research, and is a real eye-opener as to the potential dangers.

I quit smokng pot in June 1979. I realize that today's marijuana is more potent, but it was potent enough in the '70s for me to become completely addicted to it. I basically blew off my twenties while being constantly stoned. It was a tremendous waste of a critical phase of my life. I tried to moderate or quit for several years before finally getting clean and sober. It was actually tougher for me to quit pot than it was to quit drinking. I appreciate that Katie Couric, Megan Twohey and her fellow journalists are tackling this topic. For too long marijuana has been viewed as a silver bullet for what ails us. I don't begrudge people engaging in recreational pot use, but I certainly wasn't a recreational user. To this day I am grateful to be free of marijuana's grip.

Of course there may be negatives to the use of Cannabis, just like there is for most over the counter drugs. And even the psychoses that some have mentioned is rare. And for most that experience psychoses, it was shown that they already had a history of psychoses in the family. So, to say that Cannabis causes psychoses is wrong.
