i am in my 30s, i drink for about 10 years heavily, but i started about when i was 5 or 6, every year i quit because i dont work on holidays, when i work i cant quit, because if i quit drinking i dont have strenght to do phisical work and everything is hurting me (my muscles and bones), i dont have breath, but if i drink, i can work 12 hours a day, isnt it strange? every day i can drink about 20 beers of 0.5 liters, or maybe liter of votka, or 3-4 liters of wine, when i was younger my and my friend drinked 5 beers in 15 minutes on lunch brake, and i eat about 1 kilo of sandwitch, when police stops me and give me alcotest, they cant belive it how much percentage of alcohol i have in my body, and i function as a normal person , one time they took me to hospital for check, and sister told me that she doesnt know why i dont show symptoms of drunkenes, i talked normally, i walked normally, i do everything normally, i was stoped by police because of failed headlights, also withdrawal symtoms are worst, i cant work for days when i quit, i only lay in bead like dead person, i want to quit because is is expensive and i dont need it

That’s why it’s called kicking a habit. Withdrawal is the opposite of the action of the drug. Alcohol is a drug to. Agitation, restlessness seizures, etc. It’s good to do a benzodiazepine taper under Dr. supervision over several weeks if you have a heavy alcohol habit.

14 years sober, after I saw that I was turning into my alcoholic father, and that wasn't a future I wanted. The worst part, which I think this video doesn't touch on enough, is the peer pressure. Everyone looks at you like there's something wrong with you if you don't drink, and socializing is incredibly difficult. The social changes are harder to deal with than any of the physical ones, imo.

Love how all of us alcoholics are drawn like a magnet to this video. I'll share a little too, why not. By the time I was 25, I went from drinking only while going out to blacking out every single night without exceptions. At 28, the only time I didn't have a drink in my hand was when I was at work. When sober my hands were shaking so badly I couldn't perform basic functions like brushing teeth, I couldn't form full sentences or even words, my brain had this weird pulsating twitch topped with extreme fogginess, if someone talked for more than few seconds I lost track, I couldn't eat or even swallow my own spit without throwing up when sober. And the psoriasis part hit home too, it got so bad even with treatment that my knees and shins looked like my skin was peeling off of them. The crazy thing is that somehow I was 100% it was just my depression. As I was getting closer to 30, drinking stopped working, no matter how much I drank I couldn't feel at ease, and THEN IT HIT ME, I realized I had a problem, the only solution left was to kill myself. When I turned 30 on Jul. 23, 2020 few weeks later I was living out of my car in my parents driveway, the only thing on my mind was to end it all, I thought it was too late, I was in pain 24/7, mental and physical, my eyes were yellowish, my resting heart rate was at 180 bpm, I was depressed and I was scared of being alive. Then on July 30, 2020, my mom woke me up by knocking on my car window and took me to straight to rehab. I wouldn't be here if not for my parents and everyone at Ashley Hope House! Even after all this, my mind still plays tricks on me from time to time telling me it's ok, but I know how to fight it this time!

My brother and I are alcoholics. I finally admitted to being an alcoholic after 2 dui convictions and loosing my stepfather to alcohol over 12 years ago. It has followed me and haunted my day to day life the past 12 years. 7 months ago after having another alcohol fueled black out and waking up in a church parking lot in the middle of the night I finally admitted to being an alcoholic and realized that I can't even have 1 drop of alcohol. I have been sober since and the 1st month was tough but gets easier over time. You need to get away from your friends and family that influence you to drink when you know you shouldn't. The reason I mentioned my brother who was 34 years old is because unfortunately he didn't want to stop drinking. 1 week ago he was walking down the street drunk because he was afraid of driving drunk and was hit by a car, he passed away from his injuries and it was all over nonsense. Our society makes it feel like it's normal to drink alcohol and even makes it look fun but the reality is that it's a drug that kills you slowly but surely. I lost my step-dad to alcohol and I lost my only brother to alcohol. If I allow it to it will kill me as well but I decided to stop it right there and to not allow myself to be consumed by alcohol any longer. You have to find a reason to live, even if it seems stupid to others. The simple fact is that when we came into this world we came alone and when we leave this world we leave alone. We are all on out own timeliness in life. Alcohol doesn't have to ve your end. There is life. If you read this chose life. Update: Today marks 1 year sober for me. I still am able to maintain sobriety by reminding myself of why I choose to be sober and it's for myself and only myself. There seems to be little to almost no support for alcoholism but every corner, there is a bar, liquor store or restaurant ready to serve you alcohol. The hardest part so far is finding support when you need it, somedays are good and somedays are bad but find a reason to keep living even if it's so small because you owe it to yourself to love yourself. Thank you all for your comments it means so much to know that we are not alone in this quiet fight against alcohol. I hope everyone that reads this finds peace and forgive yourself if you fall for we are only human.

One thing I've been surprised to discover as I've gotten older (just turned 28) is how crappy even moderate drinking can make you feel. It's not the same when you're 20 because you can pretty much do anything and still work the next day but even half a bottle of wine can leave you feeling cloudy and shitty when you've aged a bit. Alcohol, while I love it, really is a poison.

I drank a 3/4 of a bottle of whisky every night for 8 years, I tried for 2 years to desperately stop but never did more than 5 weeks before cracking. What got me sober, was finding a reason to be sober, I moved from my village, I met a girl, I changed my job, I found a life worth being sober after fully expecting to be dead by 30. It is possible, you will slip back to old habits. But remember if you're trying to go sober, remember HALT. Don't let yourself get hungry, angry, lonely or tired. You'll feel like you're going to die, but I promise you there's a life outside of your prison that's so much better than where you currently are.

I got drunk for the first time when I was 15. By 16, I started drinking more often. By 17, I began drinking almost every week, and sometimes daily. By 18, I was abusing alcohol all the time. By 17/18, I was able to drink a 15 pack of beer within the space of a few hours. On my 19th birthday, I sat on my grandmother's front porch and cracked open a 5th of Jim Beam at like 9 o'clock in the morning, and was drunk before noon. My family would buy me alcohol until I could legally do it myself. That 5th I had on my 19th birthday? My grandma got that for me. I was getting drunk with my grandparents when I was 16. They even bought my old girlfriend alcohol when she was 15. I've been drinking for about 12 years, and I'm not even 30 yet. It's nothing for me to drink an entire 5th in a single night. I've done it before. In fact, I was reprimanded at work because I was drinking at work while on the job. I was going into the bathroom and drinking in the stalls and then going back to my station. I've told people "I've drank more in 10 years than many of you will drink in your lifetime." I once stacked all of my empty beer cases up against my bedroom wall when living at my grandmother's, and the stack was almost covered an entire wall. I told someone "This is just from the last month and a half or so". I had consumed probably 300 or more beers in roughly 30 days. I've probably drank literally 10s of thousands of beers and spirits since I was 15. Have I ever gotten sober? Yes, I have. But I've fallen off the wagon as well. In 2020, I tried to get sober, and suffered terrible withdrawals. I laid in bed for roughly 30 hours in a cold sweat, shaking like a leaf and shivering. My bed was soaked with sweat as my body tried to kick alcohol cold turkey. I didn't eat, and didn't leave my bed except to use the bathroom. It was awful. But I managed to stay sober for nearly 7 months before relapsing. I then made a 2nd go at sobriety, and in 2021 was sober for nearly 8 months before falling off the wagon again. My message to any of you who ever feel tempted to drink again is "DON'T. IT WILL NEVER BE WORTH IT." In fact, it may even be worse the next time around. I wish that I had never touched a bottle in my life. Sometimes what it takes from you cannot be taken back. If you EVER think about drinking again, remind yourself what it took from you. It will not ever be worth it.

I use to be a heavy drinker in my early 20s. To find out that I was getting close to diabetes, high cholesterol, and liver cirrhosis got me to quit immediately at my own displeasure. Alcohol kills your liver, kidney, and stomach. Alcohol also increases your risk for cancer due to the sugar metabolism that feeds cancer cells in your body. To combat alcoholism; I resorted to eating a healthier diet with a lot of healthy sweet snacks like low carb pastry, candy, and other delicacy. I only drink alcohol once in a blue moon from now on. If I can do it; so can you. Also get a pet too since I put more of my attention on my two little puppies more than having the urge to drink a few gulp of alcohol.

@@2pugman Welp I was able to beat my alcoholism through sheer brute spiritual mental strength and some proper meds/herbs. I would chug liquor as water without any chaser back in the past whenever I feel the urge. Some of my buddies wonder how I beat my alcoholism. I used 60 percent mental strength to resist urges. The 40 percent was getting proper medications and herbal medicine to help my body resist the relapse since your organs do start having a dependency on alcohol effects. Alcoholism is sort of like a mental disorder along with a body chemical immune response to changes in the body. So what I did was replicate getting the buzz and *Feel Good mindset* from heavy alcohol through sweets like chocolate/candy/etc. It was tough at first; but chances of me getting diabetes faster was not as bad as a failed liver and kidneys. @@robolasher A lot of factors came into play. First and foremost, if you don't have medical and mental health doctors start there. Talk to them and follow their advice. Depending on your needs and habits, start now by cutting your consumption with water. For example, every one pint is consumed with two pints of water. This will ensure that you spend more time running back and forth between the bathroom, than enjoying your beverage. In addition to weening your body from its addiction and making it slightly safer to quit. Make sure you make the time for rehab. Even just a few days, for me having that time of not being responsible for a job and a life made all the difference. Just like planning for a vacation, plan for rehab. Know ahead of time the first two years are likely going to be a white knuckled experience. The video covers it well, but I think it was a little light on the withdraw symptom time, delusions, paranoia, confusion, depression, it's a ride. The real difference comes two years later, after years of meditation, reflection and self forgiveness. Then you really start to feel healthy and happy in a way that I can not put into words. It is a life changing experience. Please, get a doctor, or better yet two doctors. Quitting can be very dangerous and life threatening. Not just from physical withdraw, but mental too. Be careful, plan with your doctors and go slow.

Alcohol use is not a joke, you don't want to end up like me. If anybody is reading this, and drinks every day "your mental health" or "you'r childhood trauma" is not the problem it's the alcohol, and if you want all of your problems to go away you have to start by putting away that bottle first, or you can live in constant terror, bewilderment, and fear, continue harming others, and slowly lose your physical and mental health until you reach the point of no return, which is usually an institution or a coffin. Quitting alcohol changed my life. First, it gave me a physique I had never thought possible to achieve within 50 days of quitting. It then started a domino effect on other parts of my life. Following ny passions, more natural energy, less anxiety, more confidence. If you're on the fence as to if you should quit, don't be. The rewards are worth it.

I quit drinking August 2021 and have never looked back. It hasn’t been a year yet, but I feel like it was one of the best decisions that I have made in my life. I actually feel alive and more connected to literally everything. This video was great! I didn’t know there was so much research out there on alcohol and it’s effects on the brain. This video helps confirm a lot of changes that I have noticed with my brain since quitting. I feel like if we all reduced our drinking, even just a little bit, we could all live happier, and more peaceful lives in the long term. Thanks again for making and sharing this! Peace out! ✌️

I also want to mention that I did not quit cold turkey, and initially my intentions were to just reduce my alcohol consumption to a drink a day. I started slow and eventually got there. I got to 1 drink and thought to myself… no drink for me today. And then the next day, the same thing. Then a week, month, etc. went by and here we are! Sober since August 2021! 😁👍 honestly feels like this is the happiest I’ve ever been in my life!

I love reading everyone's experience with AUD, not because I think it's a good thing that they've experienced it, but because I'm happy to see that people want to change & not let this rule their life. So thank you to everyone who is sharing their story on here, it makes me feel like I have many companions on my own journey to sobriety. I've had failed attempts at sobriety, & it recently felt like my drinking was going to get worse after the unexpected passing of my grandmother & 2 weeks later, my precious dog who was my baby that I've had since I was in middle school, (I will be 30 this month, both grandma & my baby floof passed in July). I felt that I couldn't do it on my own so i seeked medical help, & decided that I should get on medication for both alcohol abuse & depression that was only made worse by the large amounts of red wine I drank almost every night. I've lost a lot of relationships both romantic & friendships, had a hard time with familial relationships because they only wanted what was best for me. Thank you again for this video as well! It was amazing!!!

I have an uncle who’s constantly thrown up blood due to him going 2 weeks straight in his room laying on his bed drinking throwing up on the floor peeing on the floor pooping on the floor. My family has tried to help him many times but once he gets sober he starts hallucinating and seeing “demons” a couple weeks ago was the worst he’s ever been he went to the hospital and his pancreas was super bloated. The doctors have been telling him he needs to stop and they said he has a couple more months to live if he continues, he is currently sober at the moment but knowing him he’s going to go back to drinking. I hope anyone reading this struggling with quitting drinking can learn from him. Update 04/01: A few weeks ago he went back to drinking for the same 2 weeks straight until he went to the hospital and the same thing happened over again. He’s currently sober ATM and trying to stop drinking. I do have hope for him this time, I’ll update you guys again soon..

At least three of my close relatives had alcohol-related deaths before the age of 70. Knowing how dependencies tend to run in my family, I decided to never even try it. It felt like a mistake throughout my teens (I'm from *that* part of Europe) as drinking was just the way people socialised, but now in my twenties, I'm relieved to say it has been one of the best decisions of my life so far, as you easily go to a bar and socialise with people without drinking and not be judged, and you can sometimes even be the most qualified person to help less sober people, so don't be afraid of your social life disappearing just because you quit alcohol.

I was the same as you, and for more or less the same reasons, until I got to 26, then I succumbed to peer pressure and tried alcohol, allowing myself half a pint of cider if I was out on a night out with colleagues. Now at 38 I drink regularly, and a box of 10 cans of cider barely gets me drunk anymore, so i either have to get stronger cider or more cans in order to get the same effect, but at the same time I have to drink 'enough' each weekend to stay in control of my alcohol needs otherwise I wouldn't get halfway through the next week without having an unwanted 'drinking episode' which could affect my employability. I feel like I'm in a catch-22 now, as I'm suspected of having an ASD, and thus don't make friends very easily, and the ones I do have now were made whilst drinking, and only really know 'drunk me', so I'm not sure they'd hang around if I stopped drinking and was always boring 'sober me'. Basically, if staying teetotal is still working for you now then please stick with it if you can.

If you're struggling to quit just remember to keep trying and don't hate yourself if you fall off the wagon as this generally leads to drinking more again. I need to stop but man do I get anxious and it tends to make me drink more. I’m going to try to lay out a bit of a taper plan so it’s not so hellacious. The booze makes me feel good, but makes me lazy as hell. I’m normally super productive until 12-1 am. Now I go to bed half drunk at like 9-10 barely getting shit done. A shot or 2 just to take the edge Off is where it all started. But I have to take everything from 0-90 quickly. If a little makes me feel good, more will make me feel better. I assume people can live on it longer. My aunt and uncle both lived at least like 20 years on basically only alcohol before passing. Thin as a rail squatting but I doubt your body can handle heroin and only heroin for that long. I'm actually surprised a severe alcoholic has a phone or computer to watch this on.

Firstly alcohol is legal and not everyone has a problem with it. Most of the people I know don’t have a problem with it. It’s always something that happens to “other” people, people like me, who have no “self control”. It would never happen to “Them” because they are not bad people and let’s face it, no one wants to be told they’re doing something wrong. I hardly eat any animal products, but I don’t go around informing my friends that it’s wrong to eat pigs, lol. Everyone knows that cigarettes and heroin are bad for you, lol. Even though cigarettes are legal, they and heroin can only be tolerated once you’re addicted to them, so there’s no need for a judgement, if that makes sense. Incidentally, I wish you well, I just did x5 weeks alcohol free, then drank myself into a blackout last night. My tolerance has plummeted. I’m back on the proverbial wagon. Edit, I sound very jaded, reading this back. Don’t give up hope, I hope you find a way, sending love ❤️💕🌞

I’ve gone years sober and years socially drinking. For me I get super strong sugar cravings between week 1-2 sober but just need to let them pass. I also like to work out and going hard at the gym I think helps my brain kick start that rewire. Don’t ever forget you are consuming poison, there is no romanticizing it.

I was a severe alcohol user, I've been sober almost 12 years from everything including drugs. I did a lot of drugs as well as alcohol. Everything from heroin to meth ect. I got sober the day after my 21st birthday. The fact that I was out of control before I was even legally allowed to drink is crazy. I'll be 33 soon.

I used to drink one glass a day before bed and even with this much I found it difficult to quit for the first week but after that it was easier, now I never want to drink again and its been months now ,if you still sober don't ever go back to drinking and if you drinking even a little stop it ,it's the worst thing ever ,the best way to feel happy is to do sports and prepare delicious foods and eat them and helping animals ,dogs and cats ,keep yourself busy doing fun stuff and walk always ,take care

I had a huge problem with alcohol since I was 15. (I'm 31 now) After multiple DUI's and multiple times in jail, I learned my lesson. I've been proudly sober (from alcohol) for 2 1/2 years and it's the BEST decision I've ever made. I'm happier than ever and have excelled in my career and in my relationship. I didn't have to give myself up to a higher power or sought professional help. In my case, I got myself out this alcohol mess. Now, I can hang with the guys at a bar or wherever and it does not phase me one bit. Also, I've picked up hiking which has helped as well. Don't drink if it causes you problems!!

I was very lucky and had no withdrawals whatsoever, but I very very rarely ever had hangovers. I used to drink a liter of vodka a day. I am 1 month and 2 days free of alcohol. Wow. A liter. day! As I type That o can’t even believe it, but yeah. It was a liter a day for about 6 months and before that about half liter a day for the past maybe 7 years (outside of my pregnancy and breast feeding). That’s why I had to find a way to stop. I was getting to a point where I was able to drink more than a liter a day, and I just can’t do this anymore.

Thank you. I have put up a sign in my kitchen which reads.... "Alcohol is your enemy It has ruined your life It has destroyed your marriage Is has broken your family_" I read it every day, I don't feel like drinking. And it starts that Cher song in my head ! You know the one " if I could turn back time " !!! I hope this helps someone, stay strong people x

I find that probiotics help and avoiding pop coffee and tea for a little while I’ve had the most success with intermittent fasting , weekend drinker 6 beer limit. Used to drink and chew a lot when I was younger probably made my gut health sensitive I have slowed it down alot and I usually don’t drink at all during the winter time when prone to depression and etc. but having a beer limit makes it good so you don’t get black out drunk or do regrettable things. This works for me may not work for all. Anything can be abused all things should be consumed mindfully and respected life is about balance

I was drinking at least a 70cl of whisky everyday for 2 years, prior to that I drank almost everyday from the age of 13. I'm now 29, stopped drinking cold turkey 3 weeks ago and have never felt better. It was difficult and dangerous but i researched extensively before quitting, used probiotics, L thiamine, and electrolytes and several other vitamins. I have no desire to drink again however, it seems to linger in the back of my mind. I hope to continue a sober life.

This was my brothers story too. He didn't stop drinking and fell, broke his hip, got pneumonia and couldn't swallow. He died only being in the hospital for three weeks at the young age of 58. You're so strong, please keep it up, you can do it!

I've been sober 15 months and it still lingers, the craving will hit you randomly and sometimes for no obvious reason but I can guarantee it gets easier and easier to control and ignore it the longer you stay sober. Also if you're anything like me after a while you might think "oh I've cracked it, I can control it now". I said this to myself many times and it was a lie. The only solution is to stop completely! Good luck and I hope you're doing well.

Everything stupid I have ever done was while drunk. I’m 25 days sober after 5 years of daily drinking. I was sober for a year until my second brother in law died from drinking within in 6 months of each other. Before that I was an alcoholic for decades Covid was the worst if it but I’m alive somehow and never looking back. Prayers to everyone suffering.

I think it's also important to be aware of the tendency of switching addictions. In my case, I was very overweight most of my childhood and while I lost weight during puberty, I started gaining again in my early twenties. At 30 years old and 315 pounds, I had a gastric bypass and over the next year started drinking and and developed an addiction to opiate pain killers. When I tried to stop drinking and was forced to stop the pills, I realized that I was starting to use marijuana consistently. It has taken me 10 years, countless lost relationships and opportunities to understand and what was happening and to start to heal from what I was really running from and using substances for in an effort to live in a state of being numb. Please be aware of how easy it is to pick up new addictions while trying to quit old ones.

@eelnoops52002 жыл бұрын
@@cathynb9205 Sure, but how I did what? I'm not sure what you're asking. Yeah, the gastric bypass alters a couple very significant factors when it comes to drinking alcohol. First, I believe that the alcohol is coming into contact with the intestines more quickly, and less metabolized / more potent than someone with their biological GI track experiences. (I hope that makes sense. Basically alcohol hits you harder and faster post Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, so kind of ideal if the point is to get numb/comfortable. I remember the first Thanksgiving after my bypass surgery. I decided to host and cook. I'd planned all the details for weeks. About an hour before dinner I thought it would be nice to enjoy a glass of wine while I was wrapping up the food prep. I remember how nice it felt. I remember pouring a second glass, the next thing I remember is waking up on my sofa about 2am in my empty, cold house. I drank for approximately 10 more years after that..

They call it being a "dry drunk". Where you stop drinking but don't address the demon you were trying to suppress. So you just find another habit to take up.
