So, summing up this presentation, ITS WHO YOU KNOW" Would be nice if ASCAP offered their members an outlet to hear their sync songs, cause, in my opinion, you never know!!

To place a song for a sync, it's about who you know. It's a shame, but it's a life!!

That’s pretty the same in any industry. It’s who you know coupled with what you know.

I've been having success through Taxi A & R. They not only place you into music libraries, but they educate you and give vital feedback

@Charles Batchelor Very good question! Some are exclusive deals, but not all of them. Since they're cues anyway (right around two minutes), they're really not artist releases, so I don't mind, I created it for a request from the library or music manager or editor exclusively. Let me tell you, I have never made more money (or even CLOSE) with an artist release, as I have with a placed cue. I'm still getting backend money from a cue I got placed ten years ago, on an episode of "Hockey Wives" that ended a while back. Why? Because people are binge-watching old shows. Music libraries get 50%. Record companies get as much as 60% & publishers get 20% normally. With this era of streaming, it's even worse. I am really glad I switched over. Warning: It's not easy though. You have to have thick skin and be mature enough to accept criticism, and make the changes needed to be successful in this industry. But one CAN be successful

Writing and producing with sync in mind is great advice and you don't need four verses and a chorus...maybe all you need is a chorus. The hardest part for me is mixing down all the audio especially vocals so not having four minutes of mixing and mastering makes it smoother.

Yes it’s discouraging in certain ways but remember knowledge is power and a good song is a good song. Don’t let these guidelines discourage you

Feel free to ask me anything about music licensing, Ive had around 12,000 placements to date. Videos such as this typically lean in one direction or another, music sync / placements etc is not always a bright and cheery experience.

There is virtually ZERO useful information here. Don’t bother. If anything it’s very discouraging but maybe that’s what they want. Best of luck all, make music for the joy of it, not the money or you’ll be very frustrated
