Mt Baden-Powell is located at San Gabriel Mountains in Southern California and named after the founder of World Scouting Movement, Robert Baden-Powell. With an elevation of 9,407 ft, it was originally known as East Twin or North Baldy. Its prominence is about 2,799 ft.
The trail head is located at Vincent Gap parking at 6,600 ft. This trip was from March 10, 2024. Me and my buddy David climbed the summer trail along the PCT (Pacific Crest trail) with 2,769 ft of elevation gain in just 1.43 miles. The monument at summit is still buried in thick snow including the flagstaff. Some portions of the climb were steep, approximately around 65 degrees of incline.
This trail is facing North and dangerous for anyone to attempt during winter or snow season, please take all precautions in doing so. Make sure to have all mountaineering gear and knowledge and experience when attempting this magnificent mountain.

My wife and I did Baden-Powell in 1991 and it was the most difficult hike we have ever done - at least we did it in the late spring and didn't have to deal with snow. All of those switchbacks get pretty tedious. I can't imagine going straight up like you guys did. This was the only hike to a peak I ever did where I forgot to bring a camera with me. My only image of the wonderful view up there came from the Internet! Also, minutes after we got to the peak and were enjoying the view, lightning struck across on Baldy and I turned to my wife and said, "time to go!"

Lol. I’m afraid of lightning too! I remember bringing my two boys up there in the summer, it was fun. Too bad to forgot your camera, you could’ve gotten some nice photos from the 90’s. I wonder how it looks like back then compared to now. Was the monument the same? Or was the Walden Tree has a sign? Or even the tree next to the monument still alive?

😅 If only I'd had my camera, I could go back and see how it was. I do remember the monument and there were a lot of other hikers enjoying the view. Once the lightning struck we just got the heck out of Dodge. We went back and checked out the Big Horn mine with 2 of our kids a week or so later - that was a fun little hike. I think we tried the Sugarloaf hike later that year and the loose gravel above the trail junction got to be too much for us. We never went back to try that one again.

Loved the video Robert! Of course it never looks as steep as it does in real life, but for me, the pucker factor was high 😜Tagay!

Thanks, David! I also have high anxiety so when it’s super exposed like above the bench, I look back and imagine the return hike/climb down. I guess now we know what to do when like that arises. Tagay to our next adventure!

That's a difficult hike under the best conditions. The fact that you guy guys made the summit with so much snow says a lot about you. Take care of your bad selves . Tagay!!!

I think this is one and done for me in this condition. We almost turned around above that bench, but we pushed on. I guess we learned a lot in this one too. Till the next one. Tagay!

Me and my friend have been wanting to get into this but I was wondering how you know where to walk with the snow? I can see trails in the video but what would you do if there wasn’t any?
