"Asgore attacks!" "You tell Asgore he's killed you over ten times now." "He nods pitifully." One of the most underrated and badass characters in this great game, Asgore deserves so much more attention and sympathy than he gets, what will all those fucking Sans fan boys out there stealing all the thunder, he's a good character don't get me wrong, but Asgore deserves more attention I think. I know Sans' depression from the 'time loops' and 'RESETS' quite rightly should garner him sympathy. But Asgore's had such a shitty life for a lot longer, his adopted child poisoned themselves and then his biological child got killed by humans trying to lay his sibling's body to rest (and yes, trying to kill some humans, but that was mostly Chara anyway), and when Asgore quite understandably lashed out in a fit of anger and declared war on humanity in revenge, his wife left him in disgust without even bothering to try and understand his POV. I know she was pissed at him for not having the gall to get blood on his hands to free his people, but look at it from Asgore's POV after he's calmed down, he now realises that he may potentially need to do to other fathers what was done to him, deprive them of their kids (and this is what happened and what was most likely to happen, given that adults are smart enough to STAY AWAY from Mt Ebott, but children are a lot more curious and will wander on up there freely, and they did just that). Now, you can sort of see why Asgore may not WANT to have to look a child in the face and have to kill them, or go up to the surface and have to hunt down some humans, most of whom will likely be in the nearby village walking around AS FAMILIES, and if Asgore attacks them and takes the 6 extra SOULS he needs to break the barrier, he'll likely kick off another war by freeing his people, because those humans are going ot be angry and vengeful and will want to kill this new race from the mountain, whose king has JUST attacked their village and killed some of them. Given everything I've just said, you can kind of see why Asgore didn't want to follow through with his 'acquire 7 SOULS' plan a little more actively, he'd only be kicking off a new war that, given the level of human tech we see in the epilogue, would end up with his people wiped out for good. I just think it's unfair that his ex gives him so much shit for being cowardly when he was only reacting appropriately to a decision he made in a fit of anger after having just lost his child. What do you guys think?

Exatly what im thinking about. Hes still the most powerful monster without human souls. Hes the most respectable character in this epic game, sans is a sidekick next to him. Asgore is still strong when he doesnt wants to fight he even not looking at you during the battle. Asgore is mostly the main character in this game He can be a God against you if he decides to use 6 souls

Asgore has always been my favourite character and I absolutely agree that he deserves way more respect than he gets. Having put up with years of guilt and grief from the loss of his children and the subsequent murder of the humans that fell after that, and yet he still stands by his decision and accepts that he was wrong. It's completely understandable to be so angry when your child was literally murdered, and by the time you reach him he feels he does not deserve your mercy, hense the destruction of the mercy button. If you kill him, you can actually see him smiling as he dies because he accepts his fate. To go through all he's been through - losing his family, losing his will to do what he thought was necessary and remaining the king of a trapped and oppressed people - and still be standing, ready to accept what he feels is deserved in the form of his death, is just incredible and really shows how much depth his character has. Sans is a good character, but the fact that he has so many fans and this badass father has only a tiny cult following baffles me.

"Goodbye. " This could be a stretch, but when he says that line I feel like it means a lot more. He is saying goodbye to everything he knows, regardless of whether he succeeds or not. If he wins, he can free his people but could have dire consequences in the future. If he fails, he will die and his people will remain trapped for much longer if not forever. And finally, it could also be him saying goodbye to you with the expectation of only one of them leaving that room. Or it could be both.

I am honoring this great king (and best character) the only way I know how, getting a $200-$300 miniature for my hobby and kitbashing him to like the character, making a $700 custom army based off of his kingdom, getting a computer and 3d printer so this can all be possible. And if I can't get that printer or computer, I'll pay someone to help me out as best as they can.

You must remember that the villainous antagonist from Undertale is extremely tenacious and never followed the rules of battle; near the end of the game, Chara moved the bullet box to kill Sans and then proceeded to kill Asgore and Flowey without ever entering a fight, something that had never happened before. Even with all that power, Chara still has SAVE/LOAD on his side. At best, you'd be locked in an eternal stalemate.
