@BrightSpark7 жыл бұрын
I actually started passing a package of Beanboozled jelly beans around when I was let go from a data entry job over the holidays for a subcontractor of Toys'R'us. My boss at the time thankfully allowed it, under one condition: *Nobody was allowed to vomit*, so I couldn't just have them dive in blindly, and had to tell them which flavors they *could* get, that they are said to be quite accurate and make them pick the flavors they thought they can handle. (which resulted in only a few daring people going for the beans that *could* have been vomit.) The original plan was to save the beans for April Fools Day, but I didn't stay that long, so I just brought them in as a parting gift. It still made for a good laugh when they pushed their luck and got vomit instead of... what was it, chocolate pudding? Or was that one matched with dog food? Can't remember. I for one played it safe and picked Grass/Lime (I got grass) and Blueberry/Toothpaste (I got toothpaste), and I can confirm that those taste shockingly accurate - if a bit sweet in case of the grass, and two of my poor former co-workers assured me that vomit is also very accurate and that they had to spit the bean out right away and then wash their mouth out.

Now that it's been 20 years, can we please admit that Harry Potter is one of the dullest franchises in the history of movie franchises. Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert. Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to. >a-at least the books were good though "No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs." I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

I used to love those old Harry Potter sweets. They also did these small chocolate bars that were a bit like Milky Ways except they were green inside and had popping candy on the top, they were really good. I also remember quite liking the horseradish jelly bean.

Oh man, that takes me back. I still have a bunch of those cards lying around somewhere, including that Platform 9 3/4 one. From what i remember, the chocolate frogs I got mine from were only around the size of a Freddo chocolate though, and it was definitely a few years before 2004.
