Askeladd putting flower on his mother's grave in this last scene is Mappa's way of telling us that Thorfinn is the hero his mother was waiting for and Askeladd is the one who carved that diamond i.e, Thorfinn. Helga, Thors running away and Leif the sailor who discovered Vinland are also the part of creating that hero named Thorfinn and giving him purpose, who will save people like that hero in legends was expected to. If you get the meaning of that final scene, This might be the greatest ending of anything ever created.

This episode was just phenomenal. How everything ended where it started (and it's not even the real ending yet cause there's a tougher journey waiting for Thorfinn from here on out). Plus the whole episode just made me smile throughout for everyone in it. Just in overall incredible season despite some flaws. - Thorfinn's reunion with his mother was just beautiful. Thorfinn's VA killed it with his voice when he broke down crying. - Leif finally at peace (and our man deserves it) after fulfilling the promise he made to Thorfinn's family that he will find him no matter how many years it took. - That touching scene between Thorfinn and Ari (the young guy who really looked up to Thors and blamed himself for getting Thors killed by Askeladd's men). - The hilarious reunion between Thorfinn and his sister (that killed me) but also the touching scene between them while they were looking their father's weapons chest. - Einar being welcomed so warmly and getting approved by Thorfinn's mother as her own son. That was deep and our dude Einar deserves it. - Bug Eye's best episode (this dude will shine even more in later seasons) where he showed his supportive side to Thorfinn. Plus he's a great comedian as well. - The whole scene around the fire with everyone with Thorfinn telling the things he encountered in those last 16 years including how it changed it for the worst and for the better in the end. - That scene by that slave's grave (who Thors saved at tbe begining of S1) with the beautiful aurora surrounding Thorfinn. Seeing how it played such an important role to Thorfinn's character here now just blew me away. Plus seeing Thorfinn with his dad in that vision overlooking Vinland was just incredibly beautiful. - Lastly, the whole montage at the end of everyone with new characters who we'll see in S3 alongside Thorfinn's new appearance made me overjoyed on what's to come in the future.

In the last scene, they are Thorfinn's mother with Ylva(the baby) and father Thors on ship when they fled Jomsborg, → Leif when he was younger, → and young Askeladd putting flower on his mother's grave in Wales .

I really love the way they ended this season. They didn‘t choose the scene with Askeladd without purpose, no, it certainly has a meaning. Although Askeladd barely had any screentime this season, he still massively influenced it with it big moments. What Askeladd did there is putting a flower on his mother’s grave in Wales which is the reason why he sacrificed himself in S1 Ep24. Without the grave, Season 2 wouldn‘t have been the same! Little Thorfinn talking to Thorfinn is actually from the very first episode of Vinland Saga with the difference that he was talking to Thors. Replacing Thors with Thorfinn is very symbolic and shows how much he has grown in the season and how similar he is to his father. A perfect way to wrap up the season!!!

This anime is such a cut above many in genre. Interesting setting, characters with tremendous depth and growth, gorgeous environments - I sometimes forgot I was watching an animated show at times. It felt so real and truly emotional. I've been watching your channel since your Tomo-Chan recaps from earlier this year and the Vineland Saga reactions have been just as great. It's sad to say goodbye but I can now say that this season truly was a masterpiece through and through. MAPPA adapted the manga so wonderfully. Everything they added and how they told the story even surpassed the manga at many points, which I didn't think possible. For anyone interested in reading the manga, start on chapter 101. It's a great time to get into Vinland Saga because the manga is in its final arc.

i think its ok for you not to remember who ari is(given everything that happened inbetween), but just in case... he was the cocky one who asked about ylva to thors when they were on the boat... and thors proceded to tell some of his backstory.

This is what I was missing, this feeling of "oh, it's over now", it's something I haven't felt for a real while. I watch a lot of anime each season, but this feeling is special, it has been some time since I last felt it. As a manga reader, this season is absolutely fantastic, but, and this DOES NOT contain spoilers, Peakland Saga's anime adaptation is honestly only getting started. In many ways I think the content season 2 covers is as much a prologue as season 1 was. (This is not a bad thing, to be clear.) This season and this episode are stellar but honestly probably 75% of my favorite moments in this story haven't been adapted yet, and at least a third and maybe even as many as half of my favorite characters haven't been introduced in the anime yet either. This thing does not miss. It just keeps getting better. Honestly I could not be more hyped for season 3. They knocked it out of the park with Farmland Saga and I'm so ready to the rest animated too.

Ylva has clearly inherited Thor's physique and strength. But im glad Yukimura still intended her to play feminine roles of a mother, sister and housewife. Im getting tired of strong independent woman hollyywood is portraying a lot these days. That role belongs to _ _ _ _ . I like it because it's explained well in the manga why she's like that. Although ylva acts like a defacto leader in her town anyway and it's really quite natural for her.
