I wonder if the reason the Traveler doesn't have their memories is because we sacrificed our memories and "died" in a Homa ritual to push back the Abyss. Venti remembered us, but didn't seem that surprised we didn't remember him. The Abyss twin knows we are going to again sacrifice ourselves to create a net against the Abyss and is trying to find a way - from the Abyss side - to make that not necessary. I get the feeling that we are reliving something we've done time and time again before, and the Abyss twin knows this. And -- like Homura in Madoka Magika -- is reliving these awful events again and again and again, trying to find a way to save us.

28:59 Your phrasing here really tickled my brain a little bit. Do you think that the reason that the Canotila sees the Traveler as a monster that can "swallow the whole world in a single bite" is a reference to their ability to completely surround Teyvat with this net? Maybe the Traveler is sort of like the All-Devouring Narwhal which rebirths worlds inside itself, or like Apep who shields her children inside her body. It's a theme they bring up from time to time, so maybe this is what it is ultimately referring to? Even the emergency food jokes could be a reference to this and the Traveler will need to Homa sacrifice Paimon by consuming her in order to gain enough power to create the "net".

I need to point out how Inazuma felt so incomprehensible at the start-or, at best, shallow. There didn’t seem to be any clear narrative intentionality behind the Vision Hunt Decree, aside from vague rambles about ambition and how progress was incompatible with eternity. To the average player, this just came across as nonsensical pessimism from Ei and the Shogun. The reasons behind it felt overly personal, centered mostly on Ei’s losses (or at least, that’s how they were presented at the time). Over time, though, I find myself revisiting Inazuma’s lore every few patches, as new information sheds light on what was really happening there. For example, while I loved Ei’s second story quest, I didn’t fully understand what was going on with the Sacred Sakura Tree. We all knew it cleansed filth, but Makoto’s claim that Inazuma was "free from the Heavenly Principles" just felt like dramatic wording to me. Turns out, she really did mean it. I only began to conceptualize this after Dainsleif’s quest about the Loom of Fate and your findings on what it entailed. Now, with the idea that the Vision Hunt Decree might have been part of a broader Homa ritual project-building up a "soul net" to further isolate but also protect Inazuma-it makes more sense. Ei’s line in that event, "Avoid a war at all costs," now reads to me as "Avoid the cycle of sacrifices and offerings." From a character study perspective, this adds depth to Ei’s relationship with the Heavenly Principles: shifting from pursuing a thin connection between them and Inazuma to completely detaching from them. It also clarifies why the Fatui were so invested in the Vision Hunt Decree and why it wasn’t just blindly accepted by the Shogun or tacitly by Ei. This reframes the initial presentation of Ei and the Shogun as overly manipulable figures with weak reasoning. I now think there’s much more intentionality and complexity behind their actions.
@sebay4654Күн бұрын
And Ive just had an idea what if the purpose of visions is the selection of sacrifices. A descenders power is their will, a vision is granted when will reaches the heavens, this will can repel the abyss, all of khanriahs will was defiant against the gods but still a strong will for the people, visions supposedly enable ascension after death what if this ascension is actually them becoming a part of the soul net a composite afterlife of souls that believe their being rewarded for their actions in life and are now gods but in reality are just sacrifices to keep the abyss out, ergo receiving a vision is a death sentence and a mistake because instead of returning to the laylines and the cycle of life and death to be reborn after dying you become a sacrifice
@Redheart709Күн бұрын
truthfully i think sumeru shouldve come before inazuma. ashikai mentioned it in a livestream a while back but it is still wild that they had history altering on such a large scale before even mentioning that that was a thing that could possibly happen. its only after you learn about irminsul's existence that ei's 2nd quest makes any amount of sense logically. inazuma still has some of the worst dialogue and story beats but i cannot deny the lore of inazuma has always captivating.

@@sebay4654 reminds me of the manga and how celestial actually looked like a prison….
@vergiltasev710822 сағат бұрын
@@sebay4654 Doesn't this also sound a bit like the ancient names. In a way the ancient names could be seen as a scaled-down, custom version for Natlan' specifically. They are both granted to individuals, which are seen as worthy by a higher power, as a symbol for the individual's higher purpose of protecting the world or Natlan. Both are all uniquely named. Both require the individual to embrace/embody a certain ideal or set of ideals, which represent the constellation/ancient name. And while we have seen only one example of a vision being used by another after its original owner had passed away, it is like how the ancient names are passed down. The only major differences between them being that ancient names do not grant an additional ability or power to the owner, and need to be man-made, which could be due to the fact that this is a scaled down, unofficially repurposed system. Furthermore, since Ronova was responsible for making all this a reality based on Xbalanque's request, it's very like that the Ancient Names really are just a scaled-down model of the Visions, as the shades already know they work well in the grand scheme of things. This would make the ancient names a more primitive version of the Visions (as Venti would probably say). So overall, the Ancient Names could also actually be a way to indirectly tell us more about the Visions.

Loved this video! And actually linking Homa (هما) to Simurgh (سیمرغ) isn’t a wrong analogy at all! They’re pretty similar in Persian mythology and they always played similar roles powers and stories. The main difference is that Homa is much older (from the old Persian empire days to be exact.) while Simorgh is a version that we see in more modernized Persian/farsi literature. (Around 940 CE). And yes it’s definitely fair and accurate to relate them to a Phoenix. They share the same themes of rebirth, protection and fire related abilities. The most famous story that includes Simorgh is about a boy (named Zal) that was left in the wild by his family because they thought him being albino is a curse. Simorgh finds the boy and trains him in the mountains to become a brave warrior and he ends up saving the empire and those people who left him to die. It’s a great story tbh! Kinda reminds me of cloud retainer and shenhe! Don’t you think?

Chasca has been raised by red, bird-shaped saurians, and ends up being instrumental in saving Natlan in recent events Ororon has been likewise left in the wild to fend for himself and helped save Natlan. Both Bennett and Razor have been abandoned as babies and raised by others, both have white hair and fair skin. Kaeya and Peruere have been left as children in the care of strangers, Kaeya explicitly so that he may save Kanreiah (or what's left of it) Also there's a bunch of NPC boys being cared for, raised or protected by illuminated beasts, god-birds and other, powerful creatures. Countless densely packed human figures were suspended from the wall, and though they had neither bodies nor muscles, their forms could clearly be seen. All on this earth who speak lies, or pen falsehoods in their writings, will be hung from this wall to receive judgment after their death. As for who built this wall, or what lies beyond it, I do not know, for everything in this travelogue is completely true, and thus we had no way to get close to the wall." The mention of Simurgh (the mythological bird) is fitting here as it has connections to Homa bird, but furthermore, in mythology, there's a text called 'The Conference of The Birds', in which all birds gather and decide that they should have a king, since they have none. They decide to go find the legendary Simurgh to be their ruler, but the path to Simurgh is littered with exactly seven challenges (common theme in mythology), which, some of them are weirdly familiar to the Traveler's experiences in each nation (like the idea of unifying all beings in one which is every-damn-where in Teyvat, one burning in love for all beings, one not knowing answers to questions, one finding wisdom a mirage- you get the memo) and they do end in enlightenment and knowledge of the working of the world, but I digress. What matters is, in the end, thirty of these birds arrive to where Simurgh must be, only to find a lake, upon which they see their own reflection (LMAO "THE SIMURGH WAS THE FRIENDS WE MADE ALONG THE WAY" I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING THAT'S THE CONCLUSION) and realize that _they_ were the Simurgh all along: _“If Simorgh unveils its face to you, you will find_ _that all the birds, be they thirty or forty or more,_ _are but the shadows cast by that unveiling._ _What shadow is ever separated from its maker?_ _Do you see?_ _The shadow and its maker are one and the same,_ _so get over surfaces and delve into mysteries.”_ (The whole poem is practically a pun played on the word "Simurgh" which can be divided into meaning 'thirty birds' lol Attar is hilarious) But what I'm trying to point out here is that for these thirty birds to arrive, literally hundreds and thousands die throughout the quests. Basically, sacrifices. But the idea of one 'ruler' essentially becomes the reality of all of them being the ultimate ruler, like how the people of Teyvat try time and again to be their own 'ruler', to be masters of their own fate. (Which reminds me a lot of Inazuma and Sumeru where the ambitions/wisdom of all people was put into the Traveler to avoid a terrible fate, because the Traveler is the game-changer of Teyvat and is technically defying fate, symbolized by them not being recorded in Irminsul)

Thinking about your comment for Tsaritsa... If she's a Cocolia expy (which I think she is, contrary to popular belief that she's Bronya), then she would match with her other stories where she tried to sacrifice *this* world to bring about the *new* world. I don't remember how it was in Honkai 3rd, but in Star Rail she was tricked! Perhaps Tsaritsa is being tricked again by one of the sinners, and when she finds out the truth, she will help our MC instead. Just my theory 😊

La Signora was the Cocolia expy, Tsaritsa was shown to be Bronya in the files near the start of the game. In HI3 she wasn't really tricked but her actions while bad had similar reasoning to HSR's counterpart. I think whatever she is intending is an extreme kinda like how Capitano wanted to sacrifice the peoples memories to save Natlan rather than waiting for the perfect plan. Both are probably pragmatic rather than idealistic.

Ahhhh! That symbol reminds me of those pew pew spears! Idk what fictional genre the movie or TV show I'm thinking is, but they go 'pew' 'pew' with a fun little recoil.

I've been thinking, isn't the loss of all her memories the kind of death that awaits Mavuika? Each time I see her reviewing her memories on that golden path, I cannot help but think she's telling them good bye.

Damn, is this how Hoyo will get away this time with the archon's sacrifice while also keeping them technically still alive, as so far there was a twin (Inazuma), a predecessor (Sumeru), a separated self (Fontiane), now it will be Mavuika's memories? Kind of like how Nahida forgot about her previous iteration, but this time it will be the same physical body? 🤔

@@vergiltasev7108 Well, a sacrifice needs to be done. And they've been foreshadowing it already when she sacrificed her mementos to rescue Kachina's rescue party from the night land.

What I'm hearing is, you think the fate/loop system in Teyvat is essentially a machine operated by Irminsul to 'recycle' the memories of the people of Teyvat each time it starts over as fuel to keep the firmament intact and stop the Abyss.

About sacrifices around the time the celestial nails fell and angels became seelies, I am under impression that humans sacrificed a lot too. Which is why much of the Unified Civilization's knowledge seems to be lost, at least outside of Khaenri'ah. To the point where Zhongli had to teach people to build houses again.

Hii. I love your videos! Just one thing tho. I got ADHD so hard that i can't focus on your words if i'm watching the video. So that got me thinking. Would it be possible to get subtitles in your videos, but like the fun kind that are in the video itself and they be on the screen to help ADHD:ers keep the focus on the text (and the theory) rather than the cool cutscenes that we've already seen in game. I understand that this would make the editing process longer and and wont be technically necessary, but help us simple of mind and short of attention span. And again, I love your videos and will continue to watch them till the end of time!

Okaaaay now that you said all this I gotta flex my knowledge on Persian Mythology: _Homa_ (Farsi: هما) is an actual bird. Funnily enough, Homa is a vulture, who typically eats the bones of dead animals. It feeds off of the bone marrow and leaves the flesh alone, and is therefore praised by one of the most popular Persian poets for this action. The exact phrase is "Homa is the best of birds, for it eats bones and harms none." Despite being a vulture (or perhaps because of it, on account of not being a predator) Homa is a praised bird in Persian Mythology. In fact, it's considered to be a celestial bird, forever flying and never landing on earth, and sometimes even mentioned to be capable of bursting into flames like a phoenix and rebirthing. But what's most notable about the Homa (aside from its bone-eating habit) is that the Homa is a bird of blessing. It's said that capturing a Homa is nigh impossible, for the bird flies too high. But if the shadow of a Homa passing overhead falls on anyone, they'll be endlessly blessed for all life. It's also said that the Homa is a sign of kinghood, and grants it to those worthy of it. But while this is all very interesting, the Homa bird isn't the main character in my explanation. It's the _Simurgh_ (Farsi: سیمرغ), known to be the king of all birds. The Simurgh is an endlessly wise bird, inherently benevolent, and ancient enough to have witnessed the destruction of the world at least three time. Every thousand and some years, she flies into flames and is born anew. And if one is granted the feather of a Simurgh and sets it to flame, the bird will appear and offer guidance. The Simurgh serves as the connection between heaven and earth, and - get this - the Simurgh lives on the _Hōm._ Also pronounced 'Haoma'. Now Homa and Hōm are essentially very similar, because Hōm also appears as a bird as well as a holy, all-healing, never-withering plant, the Tree of Life in some cases. The Simurgh and Hōm have an intertwined relationship. Now, on the topic of offering sacrifices to attain power and preserve something, there are multiple themes concerning both these birds to be found: Mainly, the Simurgh burns itself to be born anew, the Homa is a bird of blessing who feeds off of dead animals. This paints a vivid picture of the type of sacrifices we see in Genshin: On one hand we have likes of Makoto who sacrificed herself to preserve many, and on the other we have the sacrifice of many to preserve 'one'- a unified something, be it people, nations or ideals.

The shapes on sustainer of the heavenly principle's cubes looks more like a chain to me than just a singular eye, if the souls in the cube does hold, it could make more sense that the "eyes" on the cube should be shaped like a "chain" to like, hold on to those souls.
