What I really would like to see is guild voyages that act like the Legend of the Veil. For example you can buy a voyage and your goal is to conquer a fortress and raise your flag there. When you do this the fortress will be marked like in one of the adventures so everyone can see it. Your task from that point on is to defend the fortress against incoming enemies like masses of phantoms and ghost ships that apporach the fortress. In this scenario you need to sink those ships before they reach the fortress while dealing with the phantoms. If you manage to do this and maybe sink 50 of those ships you get a high reward. But if other guilds join in they can take your flag of the fortress and finish the event, to get even more, because your flag should be worth a bit. But this is just one idea I had while watching the video. There may be even better ways to do such voyages. Guilds just have so much potential.

Got this from Falcore's post, but the fact that there isn't a "Guild Finder" is a huge missed opportunity. I shouldn't need to use 3rd party apps in order to use a feature that's being promoted as the no.1 feature of an entire season.

As far as a guild war goes, I think it would be cool for 2v2 or 3v3 ship battles, such as 3 sloops pledged to one guild against 3 ships pledged to the other guild. These battles would also grant higher amounts of allegiance based on the amount of ships. Another idea would be more than 4 people on a single galleon in a hourglass match, but you cannot go to the ferry and must be revived if you die sort of like arena.
@Ethan54136
@Ethan54136 Жыл бұрын
The way I could see guild wars being a thing is maybe in a more organic, player-engaged way than any type of system implemented by Rare. Guilds would be trying to out-compete with the other guilds in the ledger. Unique rewards for the winning guild might really make people want to play and earn those unique cosmetics that no one else has. This might also make people in guilds choose to engage with other ships in interesting ways. If they see a rival guild boat then you know it's full on battle, no questions asked. But there might be incentive for a crew to negotiate with another crew to help them instead of immediately blowing them to bits. The idea being that the two ships working together will lead to greater rewards for the ledger than what would be achieved by sinking them. Who knows, this temporary alliance may lead to a full-time slot in the guild if they prove good enough. If there are worthy rewards from the ledger system the slots in the best guilds will become sought after and leaders of those guilds will want worthy, active players.

I reckon guild owners should be able to form guild alliances (essentially combining the guilds without combining the level progression) and guild alliances could mark other guild alliances as threats (basically guild wars)

It doesn’t feel like there’s an easy way for the average player to progress or even join a guild. Most people don’t just have 24 friends who all play the game enough to the point where there’d be multiple ships in their guild sailing on different sessions at different times. Most players are going to only have guilds with like 6 people at most and only have 1 session at a time. The amount of XP required to level up is targeted at a group of 24 people and doesn’t scale with how many players are in your guild. Even if you and your 1-3 friends grind the game for hours a day every day it’ll still take a long time to reach the same level as a guild of 24. The best way to make guild rep is hourglass as it’s 1/6 of a level per WIN, but that’s still like 90-100 wins in hourglass to reach level 15 (the point in the game where you can even START properly engaging with your guild with emissaries/commendations). There isn’t even a way to find guilds through in-game or even the official discord so unless you’re a community member who knows a lot of people from the SoT Twitter/Discord communities you can’t really even find one to join

I’d like to be able to claim territories by way of Sea Forts. We were able to raise a flag in previous adventures. Why not apply that mechanic to guilds? After claiming your ship will always spawn back there (until taken by other pirates). You could decorate the fort and hoard treasure in the storeroom.

I think that it might be worth considering having the progression scale with guild size. With some already reaching their first distinction, full guilds might need to be nerfed and get less rep based on their member numbers. Same goes with smaller guilds, but the other way. My guild is four guys and we are struggling to pass level four since we simply don't have the numbers to grind it effectively. So maybe speed up leveling a tiny bit for smaller guilds. The thing about this too is that cheesing is difficult due to the self inflating nature of the idea. The bigger you are, the slower you are. The other thing too is that if it is not scaled, a lot of players will be gatekept out of it bc they just want to play with their friends and not randoms. Say they only have a few friends (like me), distinctions will be almost impossible to reach with the current speed of progression.

What about something like "Guild Duels" or "Guild Challenges" or "Guild Bounties", building in features you mentioned, but having an NPC that you can interact with in the hideout/outposts to 'challenge' another guild (with 'x' amount or 'x'% of your guild having to vote in agreement before the challenge is sent). Once the challenge is agreed (max 3 active challenges per guild? or you can only be the active challenger aginst one other guild at a time but you can be the active 'challenged'(or better phrasing) guild for up to 2 other guilds -meaning 3 active Guild conflicts, and you cannot challenge a guild you are apart of?) those two guilds are now 'at war' or 'in competition'. There is a time limit, proposed by the challenger or voted on by both sides (at least 30% of the guild must vote with at least 51% of the vote to win it?) or fixed to something like a week or a month with each sub-section of the challenge/duel being limited to a week to allow time for 'best of 3' or 'rematch' challenges during the overall Guild challenge/duel or something, and you cannot challenge the same Guild back-to-back to prevent it getting stale or being abused? Guild Hideouts / No Mans Land Guild Hideouts as you already mentioned in the video, but they have the active leaderboards for the different guild challenges and the sub-goals/chellenges/progress for each one on display (interactable to see the finer details of it all), a 'victory board' of all previous wins for the guild with a mirroring one for losses (interactable to see details of who took part, ships involved, amount won/lost, etc), new types of trinket where you can 'mount' ship crests that you have won from previous wins over guilds, or a Guild Crest/Flag to hang showing the many guilds yours has defeated, and unique custimisations & items for Guild Hideouts unlocked by progression/commedations/etc. Then also having a door, or portal, or whatever for 'no man lands' type location where any guild members from apposing guilds can meet to 'negotiate' or have non-official challenges (karaoke, best pirate voice, tallest tale, or any sort of roleplay thing they can come up with) like there might be a range of tavern-games they can compete in for minor xp/gold/rep but have a more low-risk place to interact with their opposing guilds (might be pointless or complicated to do with multiple challenges and/or actually being there when your challenger is without external arrangements but it feels like a fun idea lol). Guild Emissary Value Similar to the Faction Emissary value leaderboards we have now already, but it is the two Guilds trying to build emissary value higher than each other with a timer, whoever is highest gets the reward, bragging rights, and XP/Rep boost. Guild Combat A third option for hourglass, be it a good idea or not, but where you can cycle reapers/athenas/guild. Sailing as a Guild rep for hourglass will pit you against anyone else with hourglass on from any guild you are currently challenging or challenged by and earn points (1 for sloop, 2 for brig, 3 for galleon, with maybe multipliers for streaks or bonus points for streaks?) and when time is up the guild in the lead gets the rewards. There could also be a variant/alternative for this where players can go to Guild Hideouts/No Mans Land or other interaction point, and propose a 1-on-1 challenge/duel against any member of the other guild, posting it in a similar way as the player created treasure maps on outposts with the players terms for their mini-challenge (perhaps traffic-light system for the terms of the challenge i.e. 'Galleon Only = Red' so both parties must have Galleons, '2 Players Exactly = Yellow' so people who accept with 2 players are prioritised but players with 1 or 3 players can still accept the challenge (with the wiggle room for yellow terms being set by the challenger?), and 'Player Level = Green' meaning players of any level are welcome to accept the challenge. Challenges would be set using a similar template as Guild Objectives but with much shorter times, and only appicable for the players involved (though winning does earn reputation for the guild as a whole - only the players involved would get the direct xp/gold/reputation/commedation progress/etc). They would then be taken into a session together (or seperately but able to view each others progress?) and the challenge begins, when the challenge ends a sound/notification pops and they have x amount of time to get back to their ships/out of whatever they're doing before automatically returned to No Man's Land to review the results of the challenge/duel (or just get told the results and left in whatever session they are in, to avoid load times + server headaches) Guild Objectives Customer Objectives set for both Guilds to compete on until time runs out. Each Guild gets to choose a goal, and the third is randomised (using a system of preset templates: Action 'hand in / defeat / sell to 'x' faction / eat / burn / fire / repair / etc.' , Amount - set by dragging a counter on a scale or manual input or just setting to 'as many as you can', Subject 'treasure / specific treasure item (drop-down/list of options) / food type / cannonball type / ship type / enemy type / etc), Modifier - a large list of random conditions or select no modifier, so like 'while on fire / while sailing as a reaper / while sailing as a guild emissary / at night / in a specific region of the map' something that just adds a layer to the goal and can, again, help prevent things being stale. Guild Bets/Collateral For each element of 'guild challenge' or for the challenge itself individual players can bet their gold or dubloons (but not ancient coin to prevent real-life currency coming into it an making it a more complex issue), or maybe even thier ships? (if they lose the other Guild gets the ship added to their fleet, no player individually gains the ship, the name + 'owner' stays as the original to stand as a trophy piece but can be used by all guild members, if the ship is removed from the guild fleet or the guild is disbanded the ship is lost for good and a small % of the ship value is given to each member of the guild - high risk for players but could be a good roleplay/social element for guilds to build up fleets of 'captured' vessels). Adds a layer of risk and personal investment for Guild members. Guild Posters/Paintings Basically like sprays or player-notes from games like FromSoftware and such where players can leave either notes that have the guild-style + logo on stabbed into a surface with a dagger then when interacted with reads a message (using the in-game text moderation or pre-set phrase templates), noting the guilds name + motto + the player who placed it (The Soggy Swordsmen, We Sail Together. / AShinyRay Captain of The KZbin Comment) or ( The Soggy Swordsmen, We Sail Together. / AShinyRay Crew of The KZbin Comment) for captains/crew dependant on the ship they are sailing. The paintings would be more like in-game sprays that some games used, where you can have 3 sprays set at a time in-game, your guilds, your ships, and your own. With the 'painting library having guild-only sprays, ship-only sprays, and sprays available to all, adding an extra option for cosmetics + progression unlocks. Once placed in the world in-game they remain for 1-hour or until the ship/player logs off and acts as a "we woz ere" for players to show off or take pride in their guilds and adds another indirect but still fun layer of socialisation for players who may have just missed eachother on an island but can still see the presence of pirates before them. To me feels like it might add a layer of life, interaction, and healthy paranoia into Sea of Thieves as when doing a vault or voyage or whatever coming across a note/painting knowing that it means someone was recently here/still might be around could be a fun twist to add into the game. Plus imagine returning to your ship after digging up some treasure or fighting some enemies to find your ship has now been marked by other players and ranksacked (though likely sunk lol) and being would build real-life reputation for Guilds/Ships/Players as the more they leave posters/paintings behind and the more uniquely they do it or the more amazing/rememberable their actions the more actual players will remember them (maybe? perhaps idealistic) But yeah, really could be a lot to be done, a lot of potential. And apologies if my rambling makes no sense lol. Love your content!

I personally am very negative about this feature, to me it's just a shared asynchronous progress bar, which is not what guilds are and it's not something that adds "social interactions", it lacks ANY social mechanic a guild has. Maybe one day we'll have shared spaces (Customizable Guild Hall and housing like mechanics) Guild Wars (HG like multi-crew battles), tournaments or other Guild related activities; but as of now I perceive it barely as a wobbly foundation, not a good start. I also think adding foundations on foundations without expanding them is becoming a big issue, just think of cosmetics: they prioritize Pirate Emporium, Twitch Drops and Ledgers (I guess); I don't think they can update regular shops, HG, Captaincy and Guild cosmetics all together in a meaningful way, they will either have to deliver a small amount of cosmetic for each system (which wouldn't feel meaningful) or focus on one system at a time, which is probably the best option but wouldn't be satisfying either way. I think they are building more foundations than they can manage to expand in a meaningful and constant way.

You hit the nail on the head with this quote "10% of what guilds could be". I think that about pretty much every aspect of this game. I know for new comers this game probably looks like it has a lot of content, but when you have been here for 5 years you know they've barely done much to add to this game, especially in the last couple years. How long was it between updates from season 9 to season 10? And this is what we got? Why do they keep wasting their time on useless shit instead of creating content to actually engage with? Every time they come out with something I'm left thinking "this is not enough". There hasn't been an update in years where I haven't felt this way, we'll play the new thing over and over for a week or 2 and then it's in the same pile as every other piece of content we've got, over played and over used. Imagine they drop an update with 10 unique voyages (and I mean actually unique, not the same fucking voyage with a different name and a "new" piece of loot). That's the kind of shit we need, stuff that actually breaths new life into the game, new experiences, more reasons to set sail. Not these useless faction updates and what not. Guilds with fuck all interactivity, no guild halls, no fleet activities, nothing actually new besides a god damn friends tab... God it irritates me how much potential this game has and how little Rare seems to do with it. Maybe it isn't entirely their fault but fuck me, it's a waste no matter who is responsible.

I think their should be more benefits for submitting your ship to a guild. I bought a sloop as my first ship and recently got back into the game. Invited my friends into my new guild. They’ve used my ship loads while I’m at work or busy. In fact they have got more use out of the damn thing than I have lol. That being said I think captains who have their ship being used by guilds should receive some sort of passive gold payment for the use of their ship. Nothing too absurd. Perhaps a quarter or more generously a third of the total profits earned. Especially if I perhaps look to play later but my ship is already being used by a full crew. Now I could revoke the privilege to use it but I’d rather allow my guild to use it if it benefits everyone.

The Maritime Union are not the bad guys

Matter of perspective. For a pirate who wants free open waters The Grand Maritime Union are the bad guys. And to them pirates are the bad guys. Also you can have multiple opponents at the same time.

Everything they add is always the same, but different. The core gameplay has never changed since launch. There is NO REAL incentive to play.

If they wanted you to truly grind, you'd be gaining advantages from it. What they truly want is people playing together and becoming friends, even PvPers. It only feels empty if you play solo.

@@davidfrazier6308 I only had 2 players I used to regularly play with. They tend to play other games now, but we all had so much fun, and plan to play more again at some point. Also in a guild now so will have them to play with too. I can't help but feels it's a mindset.

@@mattevans4377 I mean you said it yourself "Players I used to regularly play with. They tend to play other games now": The game is great as a "hop on and dick around for a weekend" type of game, but that doesn't really help player retention. The game really needs some meatier and/or more skill based PvE content, since the vast majority of it is just random menial tasks meant to fill the interim between player encounters/provide loot to give said encounter's stakes. Personally, I'd love to see them add something akin to a raid or dungeon to the game as endgame PvE content. Could easily have them be initiated via the gate of the damned, like some tall tales are. Would be a great opportunity to put the various enemy subtypes to creative use as well.

@@AShinyRay Sorry but no, it wouldn't be. Peoples reputation level has 0 relevance to power, I couldn't care less about how people levelled a faction. So it is by no means "overpowered". If it somehow gave them an edge over other players in PvP then sure, but nothing in this game does that, there is no real progression. There's hardly any cosmetic progression let alone any power progression.

I understand all the caution about the sovereigns but we don't have any real confirmation about anything about them. They could be like the other merchants. They were part of the maritime Union and now they're not. But the representatives themselves say that they were pirates for years and now they're not
