I worked for 34 years in electricity generating stations of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power that burned natural gas in boilers to make steam to run large turbine generators. These videos of the engine room of ships have a lot of similarity to electricity generating stations in that there is a lot of piping, a lot of valves, a lot of pumps. Also there are centrifuges for purifying oil. Also there is a lot of noise when the equipment if operating. However there is one big difference. Because an electricity generating station is built on land, there is a lot more space between the various machinery and equipment. On a ship the internal space is limited, so the machinery and equipment is very close to each other and walkways are narrow.
