The entire album is underrated! I don't care about the controversy surrounding the SNL incident that ruined her career for the mental torment they put her through for that, she was just a kid! She had a really good, raspy voice that I love. This song was my anthem album for so long and she was so pretty! I miss her music. I wish she would come out with new music. She was my style icon as well. This album give me nostalgia and I love it.

the snl should been more of a wake up call that all televised performances are taped ahead of time. a lot of time and money goes into a show. having it pre recorded is just another way to make sure things go smoothly.

so um why the fuck does anyone care if she doesnt sing all the time!! gosh everyone is like oh she doesnt sing. to lip sync means to have something to mimick... soo who is she mimicking.... herself!!!?? so shes lip syncing to her own voice?? how is that wrong? its her voice for gosh..
@skyetheboss61387 жыл бұрын
But see, the thing is, thats not even really her voice cause she flat out has no talent. So, the people in the studio fix it with autotune and whatever else they can use. So no. She isnt even mimicking herself. She is mimicking what she wishes she could be. You hear her real voice when she actually tries to sing live and thats when she gets booed off the stage. Seriously. Look up her halftime show (i think it was for the orange bowl. idk it was some football game.) Honestly, even after they autotune her horrible voice, it still sounds like crap in my opinion. But to each their own.
@astridgomez97997 жыл бұрын
whts wrong with her being who she wants to be music is about expression some do it by instruments alone others use their voices. i understand why some have trouble with people who arent naturally or originally talented. i understand the whole i work hard to sound good naturally so she shouldnt get easy money by playing the puppet. but she's living out her dream isnt she. she cant sing (dont know if thts true but whtev) but wants to. wht is she suppose to do... give up?? regardless the song that is composed and is sung by her "inner" artist or lip sync by her is very good. plus if i start laying down a foundation and later on people build the rest of the house it doesnt mean i had no hand in the finishing product right. look i dont like seeing people work and get ridicule by it. theres always someone who will work harder then you and they will deserve more. but any effort to work on should be acknowledge. voice or no voice she has a song and she was a part of it either way so its hers and she can sing it however she'd like.
@michyoung775 жыл бұрын
This song is so underrated. This album isn’t perfect but there some really great songs on it. I know Ashlee Simpson is like the poster child for “talentless lip syncing rich pop star” but there are honestly some wonderful songs on this and her other album, so don’t let her appearance keep you from listening to her music. She’s better than most people think.

Sad thing is, she wasn't even lip syncing. She was singing along to a track being played low. it's very common for professional singers to sing along with a track while on T.V and even live. It's pretty much standard for T.V actually. But people in the industry didn't stick up for her. I think, now, more people know artist do this but back then people didn't. I only knew because I knew a professional sound man who told me. He felt bad for her. It's so sad that between this and people thinking she was trying to ride off her sister's career, alot of people never gave her a chance. Even mocked and booed her. She worked so hard on that first album and trying to prove she wasn't just Jessica's sister. It had to feel so unfair to have people miss judge her. Especially, at such a young age, when you're trying to find yourself.

No matter what you think of Ashlee Simpson - this song is very, very well-written. Catchy, but the harmonies are more complex than most pop-rock songs from that era. I still can't believe that this song was recorded with real strings, while "November Rain" had synthie strings, programmed by Axl Rose...

I was six years old When my parents ran away I was stuck inside a broken life I couldn't wish away She was beautiful She had everything and more And my escape was hiding out and running for the door Somebody listen please It used to be so hard being me Living in the shadow Of someone else's dream Trying to find a hand to hold but every touch felt cold to me Living in a nightmare A never-ending sleep But now that I am wide awake My chains are finally free Don't feel sorry for me All the days collided One less perfect than the next I was stuck inside someone else's life and always second best Oh, I love you now 'cause now I realize That it's safe outside to come alive in my identity So if you're listening There's so much more to me you haven't seen Living in the shadow Of someone else's dream Trying to find a hand to hold but every touch felt cold to me Living in a nightmare A never-ending sleep But now that I am wide awake Then I can finally see Don't feel sorry for me Mother, sister, father, sister, mother Everything's cool now Mother, sister, father, sister, mother Everything's cool now Oh, my life is good I've got more than anyone should Oh, my life is good And the past in the past I was living in the shadow Of someone else's dream Trying to find a hand to hold but every touch felt cold to me I'm living in a new day I'm living it for me And now that I am wide awake Then I can finally be Don't feel sorry for me Don't feel sorry, don't feel sorry for me Don't feel sorry, don't feel sorry for me Living in, living in, living in the shadow Living in, living in, living in a new day

I love this song! I can relate. My sister is 2 years older than me and my whole life I felt so shitty compared to her. All through my teen years and 20's. She was pretty, popular, outgoing and I wasnt. I was quiet and introverted and I literally let it dictate my whole life and how I interacted with everyone around me and how I saw myself. It fuckin sucked. Only in my 30's have I gotten passed it. That adolescent shit stays with you for a long time. 🥺

This song and Autobiography are beyond relatable- both for various reasons. People who don't know me make assumptions based on what a person who hates me (my mom and those she's manipulated over the years) says. Instead of asking for my side of things people have taken her word. There's more than what lays on the surface Just ask me. I felt like my brother (only boy) was put on a pedestal. I lived a life where I was always below and very few people believed in me. I was considering enlisting in the military out of high school. My family was supportive. My brother was seriously considering enlisting. My family freaked out because they "didn't want him to go overseas and get his head blown off or seriously injured". I'm the oldest. 🤷♀️
