This is a full, in-depth review of the US Stove Ashley Hearth direct vent gas heater (natural gas version) 25,000 BTU. They're perfect for off grid heating, garages, and cabins since no electricity is required. These heaters also come as a propane option instead of natural gas. This is not a sponsored video.

⛔️ I WISH we had a video explaining why one company charges for example; $450 ⚠️ and another $700 and another $1100 and $1500 ? Durability ? Functionality ? Not sure what to do in Michigan. ! ! !

I bought the large one and the smaller one just as you did about a year ago and haven’t installed them yet and I searched night and day trying to find reviews on the Ashley Hearth direct vent heaters and found nothing. I’m installing mine today but my contractor accidentally threw away the heat shield so I bought some sheet metal to make a makeshift heat shield. Thanks for making this video.

Thank you so much for the kind comments, Joshua! Hope your install goes well without any snafus 😉 We've been really happy with both of the heaters. Sorry to hear that about your heat shield. Where there's a will there's a way! If you haven't seen our install video of the smaller guy, you can watch it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXaliKuqj9qLq5o

I purchased this house new in 2008. It has a natural gas furnace in the attic. It’s fairly cheap efficient heat but last year I got a notice from my Natural gas provider that all new construction will not be allowed to install natural gas heat in homes. Plus in a few years all natural gas will be banned for heating, cooking, etc etc. Seems ridiculous to me but the rulers want electric kingdom worldwide so they have centralized control.

Oh, wow, that's so unfortunate (to put it lightly)! I've heard they were coming down hard on NG in New York and some other states. So far, we haven't seen a push for any bans here in WV, but I'm sure they're coming for all of us eventually!

Can it be changed to a vertical vent?turned upwards.the wind hits it. Straighten on,.blows it out.
@AlleghenyHomestead
@AlleghenyHomestead Жыл бұрын
That’s probably a question best asked to the company themselves. However, I’d think you’d have options to come up with a wind guard or could in fact elbow it vertical outside the wall. We haven’t experienced this problem as ours don’t face prevailing wind.

I can get the pilot to light on my 11,000btu; but turning the knob up does not ignite the burner. Is this a regulator problem? Is it a low pressure or high pressure regulator?

Great info. I am considering replacing my current heater (different maker) which makes loud popping noises especially during off/cooling down due to metal expansion and contraction. My question is if this unit does the same. Thank you so much!
@AlleghenyHomestead
@AlleghenyHomestead Жыл бұрын
Guess it's kinda relative how loud it is, but yes, this heater does the same thing. Sometimes it's louder than other times. Honestly, we've gotten so used to it, we hardly notice it anymore 😊 You're welcome and glad the video was helpful!

Is there any natural gas smell that comes off the unit? I have a Rinnai unit that gives off a gas combustion smell. It is only 2 yrs old and always has the smell, I think the vent is simply too small for it. Looking for something with no smell.

you add an L on the end of the part number for propane. liquid propane. had to figure that out. im off grid. So propane is the only option. I am not sure yet if it meets my local building codes.

@alleghenyhomestead In Los Angeles CA it is required to install a Vented, Gas Heater in order to pass inspection on my ADU construction project. Does anyone know if this direct vent heater will pass?
@AlleghenyHomestead
@AlleghenyHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
Not being familiar at all with CA rules and restrictions, your best bet is to contact your city or county code enforcement to ask them. However, it would seem like it would pass code since it is indeed a vented heater.

Question Are you still happy with it? We do not live in this building full time just use it as a little guest house. The other furnace we are replacing as it stopped working. If we purchase this unit we will be purchasing the smaller unit there is 192 Square ft. Wondering if you can give us some feedback on the installation the building is a timber frame so there is not alot of wall depth maybe 3-4 inches ? can it be installed with out having to have it go into the wall? Thank you in advance
@AlleghenyHomestead
@AlleghenyHomestead Жыл бұрын
Sorry! Just saw your question! Yes, we are still very happy with the heaters. If you are asking if it can be placed on the floor, no, it can't be. I would contact the manufacturer to see if they have any input on your situation.

In the video you said, when the the heater gets to the temperature of the thermostat (1-5) the burner turns off. does the burner automatically turn back on when it goes below temp, or does it have to be manually restarted? Thanks
@AlleghenyHomestead
@AlleghenyHomestead Жыл бұрын
It has a pilot light that stays on while the main burner cycles on and off to maintain your room temp.

@AlleghenyHomestead

Hi! Thank you! Even though we’re by no means affiliated with the company, like any gas heater, it does have pilot light thermocouple protection, but it does not have a high temp safety shut off if that’s what you’re asking. But I would expect that as long as you are within the manufacturer’s guidelines on your particular gas pressure range that I would think you should be okay. Our gas pressure is in the high end of the range, and it can get pretty hot when running hard, so we tend to not run the larger heater at max setting, but we haven’t needed to. You might want to contact the company for more information. Hope that helps!
