This is a detailed installation of the Ashley direct vent natural gas heater (DVAG11N). This will help with installing the propane heater as well as almost any direct vent heater. No electricity is required for the Ashley heaters and therefore makes them great for off grid heating needs.

I like the fact that you have very few cuts. Talk just enough about your steps, not over talking. Clearly you and your wife are on the same page. ... One facet to have considered in the placement is that it was never to be placed above a wall outlet, other wires, plumbing. Wire transits across a wall so that's something to consider. (Oops, you covered in the first video. Good job.)

Thanks for the great video, just had a service call on a brand new unit that a guy had installed by his electrician and ended up calling a hvac company and they threw up their hands and walked away they couldn't figure out why the unit wouldn't keep running.... we found that they had wrapped the insulation blanket around the exhaust instead of the fresh air intake-----but for the life of me I couldn't figure out what the intent was with the blanket until watching your video and seeing such a large cavity around the pipes, in my opinion that's a little over kill on there part but definitely not hurting anything.

@AlleghenyHomestead
@AlleghenyHomestead 10 ай бұрын
I'd probably wait just in the event that you found there was a missing part or something and had to delay the install to wait for a part. It'd be that much longer you'd have a hole to keep covered in your wall. You never know. We have not found it to be noisy at all. Of course, that's relative to the person. The only noise both of ours makes is when the unit cuts on and off, and you hear the sounds of the metal expanding and contracting. But otherwise, they are silent. Hope that helps! Good luck with your install!

@AlleghenyHomestead

If you're going through an entirely concrete wall (inside and out as in a concrete block wall for a basement), I suppose you wouldn't necessarily need to make the big square hole. You could probably just have the round hole for the flue, but you should consult the manufacturer on this.

These use to be the most inexpensive heater you could get. What happened? There is no motors or mechanics. There is only a heat exchanger, a burner and a vent. Why do expensive?

Doing an install of the 30 now. Thanks for the video. In the instructions it says 4 1/2" minimum wall thickness. Is that just because that's the smallest size provided for the 11x insert? I have a log cabin that only has 3 1/2 thick walls. Do you see an issue with cutting that a bit shorter? If not I was thinking of padding out the wall another inch or so on the inside(between the wall and mount). Thanks again for a great video.
@AlleghenyHomestead
@AlleghenyHomestead Жыл бұрын
The metal heat shield that inserts into the wall is made for either 2x6 framing or with breakaway tabs for 2x4 framing. As I'm sure you know, a 2x4 stud has an actual thickness of 3.5" plus a 1/2" drywall and 1/2" exterior sheathing would give you 4.5". Given that you have a log cabin, apparently you don't have studs, and though I'm not qualified to give you advice, but I personally don't see why you couldn't add some kind of backer plate or something to thicken it up. You'd probably be best to ask the manufacturer to be on the safe side. That being said, I'm sure there's a way to make it work. Just keep safety in mind. Glad the video was helpful though!

Can we control room temp using thermostat or do we need to manually turn on n off when needed?
@AlleghenyHomestead
@AlleghenyHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can control room temp with the dial thermostat, and it surprisingly works very well. The only time you might need to turn it off and on again is when you have temp spikes outside like early spring/fall when the thermostat doesn't meet your needs. It does take some experimenting to get to know the dial thermostat to know where you like to set it.

In Los Angeles CA it is required to install a Vented, Gas Heater in order to pass inspection on my ADU construction project. Does anyone know if this direct vent heater will pass?
@stanleytolle416
@stanleytolle416 Жыл бұрын
Yes direct-vented convection heaters pass code requirements for now. In the LA area I would think about a heat pump. They make small units that are about the same cost as the vented propane systems plus they also cool. Mild climates HP wind up costing less in the long run. Though if you don't have electricity they are kind of harder to use.
