Very interesting what Ashley had to say about doing the keto diet after being on TSM for a while. I had the exact same thing happen to me. I was doing really well on TSM and thought I should look at weight loss. I had been on TSM for about 10 months when I went on keto. Within 1 month I started drinking very heavily again ( always compliant) I stopped the keto diet 5 days ago and the drinking has declined a lot. I was craving the sugar/carbs which were being restricted on the diet, so I started drinking as I did before TSM. I'm so glad I found my way back.

I had that happen top. I didn't use the medication. For the life of me, I can't figure out what made me quit..other than, when I had a glass? I would ask myself..does this honestly taste good? Really think about it. Most of the time the answer was..no. I thought I loved red wine. Turns out? Nossomuch. I started thinking about what made me start in the first place. Long ago, we went out for Italian food. Their house wine was imported special for them from Italy..it went so well with the food. That's where it started.

I am wondering if 1/2 dose is more appropriate once hitting extinction for that very seldom drink
@thrivealcoholrecovery3 жыл бұрын
I have seen that work for some actually. I know therapeutically for TSM people always say we need the 50mg...but a lower dose has worked for people I know - even including myself. At the end of my drinking, the last couple times I drank I only took 25mg and it worked perfectly well. Now I say this with extreme caution as that was my one personal experience - and the handful of others I know as well. But just wanted to speak to it based on what I know. Hope that helps. Is that where you are at now? xo, Katie

@@thrivealcoholrecovery Aloha Katie. No that’s not where I am now. Just starting. I think I am one of these who it works really well for. I’ve only been taking 1/2 dose for about a week. Thanks for being such a great advocate! Looking forward to my TSM journey. :-)

No, 50mg naltrexone is required to block the opioid receptors in the brain and reduce the flow of endorphins. This applies whether you have reached extinction or not.

Awesome story …so glad it eventually worked. I never will understand that a spouse of someone with a drinking problem would encourage and offer alcohol to them
@magua9993 жыл бұрын
As the spouse of someone with a drinking problem I completely concur. My wife is two weeks in to TSM and she's working so hard at it bless her, I can't ever imagine offering her a drink to celebrate! I think she may be a late responder and lot of this story sounds so familiar so thank you for doing this video Katie.

I hear what you’re saying. In my experience, my husband saw my success with TSM so would offer me a drink if he was having one. The longer I was on TSM I would say no… then eventually went sober. But I guess it depends on how the person is doing.
@magua9993 жыл бұрын
@@kevcoghill3804 the way I see it there's the bio-chemical side if TSM and there's habit-breaking. Mindful drinking helps with the latter. My wife is being compliant by taking NAL before drinking, but she's also challenging herself with how she drinks. By "rewarding" her with alcohol on our anniversary then surely I'd be reinforcing the alcohol as being a positive experience. I'm not telling her not to drink when she has cravings (as TSM requires alcohol + NAL), but I don't think not encouraging her to drink would be supportive in helping her to break habits either.
@stevecooper70383 жыл бұрын
@@magua999 TSM requires you to drink in order to kick start the extinction process at neurological level in the brain. However, the medication can't address habitual behaviour around your drinking. This is something which has to be addressed over time by small, sustainable changes and a structured reduction program.
