I so resonated with the reason for drinking alone. Creating a way for me to transparently connect with myself. It let me drop my self imposed walls. I actually learned alot about myself but also knew it was taking a dangerous turn. I loved her term ‘engagement’ with ‘me’.

Yes, exactly! SO many people assume drinking alone is to simply 'numb out' but it was never that black and white for me. It allowed me to 'meet' myself in ways that I couldn't otherwise. Now I don't need to do so...TSM has changed that...but it was indeed a coping mechanism at the time.

I am just beginning TSM, I've been through every form of rehab, detox , AA and god knows what else. Could never figure out WHY I would relapse. I was even given 2 shots of Vivitrol in rehab (30 days each dose) but not allowed to drink. I truly believe if I had been allowed to drink during that time I would be AF and happy to be sober. So far so good. Cheers

Very powerful and knowledgeable interview. Naltrexone is so undervalued in both medical and recovery communities. Thank you for your important work on promoting this modern treatment with credible, informative and helpful stories!

Thank you Henrietta! I'm just grateful for Katie's willingness to chat with people like myself and many others to share our experiences. Hearing other people's stories has had in indelible influence on me...we are stronger together than we are alone, that's for sure.

What are the books Hannah mentioned? One is the dopamine nation the other was an author..who?
@hannahsorenson2703 ай бұрын
I think it was 'Dopamine Nation' by Anna Lembke and probably 'The Biology of Desire' by Marc Lewis.

What is TSM stand for in sobriety?
@hannahsorenson270 Жыл бұрын
The Sinclair Method. It is a medical treatment that is used when still drinking, so abstinence is not required. TSM is using the medication Naltrexone *only* before drinking (rather than every day like traditionally prescribed) to change the brain's response to alcohol.

@@hannahsorenson270 Thanks Hannah, to my experience, the Sinclair Method is effective, it works as if effortlessly. None the less I am deliberate. I always follow the cardinal rule: Always take the naltrexone pill at least an hour before a drinking episode. If I am eating, which is sensible to do, of course, I wait a little longer. Drinking on an empty stomach is not a good for me. That is 'old behavior.' I keep a diary on a calendar tracking my drinks, times, circumstances and attitudes etc. Do I really even want another drink? Or is it just a habit, a learned behavior? Slow rolling amazement here.
