Maybe I'm totally missing something, but for game one, couldn't you have stacked a ton of golem counters, gotten back the scorpion, and then make golems, force the pestilence, then make more golems in response and repeat until they are out of mana and you can sac enough golems to mill them?

As far as I know you can't die from getting milled out right? Then the opponent just untaps and kills him with Pestilence before losing to drawing a card.

I know it goes against what you're trying to do with the deck, but it feels like the trans-formative sideboard is stronger than the combo. It's very difficult to deal with a bunch of Serpents, Myr Enforcer and Thoughtcasts. The current combo shell you have does have inevitability (with the ability to return cards from the graveyard), but it doesn't have the mana to pull it all off in a timely manner. It feels like any form of interaction by the opponent sets you back multiple turns. This was most telling when the opponent kills the Sculptor or you don't find an Alter. It's not as cool as the combo, but if you played it more like affinity, you'd have a much more consistent deck with a larger sideboard to work with.

that's what I was thinking when going through the matches. The deck is actually very consistent/resilient but most of the cards just cost too much mana without sculptor. So you can have the combo in hand for like 4 turns and not be able to pull it off. I wonder if the reverse deck would actually be better... starting with the main shell and then siding into a less-focused combo vs certain matchups. Or just including a toned down version of the combo with more interaction

​@@CalebGannon I don't often see decks transform from aggro to combo. You would have to remove the need for creatures post sideboard, to give you the same edge that transforming from combo to aggro gives. It would probably better to have 10-12 silver bullets than 10-12 cards dedicated to the combo. However I could see using some form of that combo shell in grindier match-ups to generate tons of value with the Myr Retriever loop. The best part about your combo is that it can altar + myr retriever loop fairly easily without interruption. You just need a win condition that is less fragile/mana costly than disciple/dross golem. I'm not sure what that card is.

A bit late to the party maybe but regarding the removal thing at 54:30 the only cards that come to mind are Sylvok Replica as a recurrable disenchant or executioner's capsule but that would require you to move into black. But maybe that's doable if you run some Vault of Whispers instead of the Saprazzan Skerry. Or maybe just some Nature's Chant as a way to deal with Journey because that card was super back breaking. Anyways deck looked really cool, I love Myr Retriever loops :D

I dont have sound on so you might have noticed, but if you did not chromatic stars draw trigger is on death(unlike chromatic sphere), so sacrificing it to alter let's you add 2 colorless and still draw the card instead of filtering if you dont need the mana. I repeat do not try this with chromatic sphere you will be sad

Aether spellbomb is probably the best removal spell without paying the red or black splash tax. This is such a sick deck. I was playing myrs in a preordains shell with zero residency. This seems so much better especially with the transform being a complete beat down.

In terms of removel... Maybe cut the skerry, add vault of Whispers and add cast down. Cut maybe one dross scorpion( 4 Mana, no need to have more than one), but i'm not shure what else to cut (Sphere? Enforcer?)

You could put Serrated Arrows in for some removal, and you can untap it with your scorpion.

Hey Caleb my dude, haven't you considered changing Ancient Dens for Vaults of Whispers and running 4 Disciple of the Vault? It is basically an instant combo kill with the recursive Myr Retriever. I mean, I used to win Standard and even Extended tournaments with a deck like that, built around KCI (RIP). Or even just with real affinity (like the one popular in paper: Frogmites, Myr Enforcers, Somber Hoverguards, etc.), back in the day, before they banned it in Standard.

To be honest, I'd love to see how that transformative sideboard would look as a main deck. Have you tried keeping altar and retrievers in there for the engine? Except for altar, I think the cards are still pretty good for the golem triggers and recursion of threats so I would be interested in how is "Affinity Twin deck" would look like.

i think when you sideboard out you should be keeping 1 aultr as a sack engion so when you do get the foundery out you can sack in responce to removal and also loop the retrivers and gargoyles in a not infinite manor to stack counters till out of mana

I agree that the main deck needs some permanent removal to deal with things like journey and pestilence, luckily there are 3 artifact options you can use. Dispeller's Capsule, Elf Replica and, Sylvok replica. The last one seems to be the best bet as it can hit artifacts and can also attack or block well. Maybe just one for the main that you can dig into would be enough.

Yeah can run Moonglove Extract or Aeolipile if you need creature removal but it seems like maybe artifact/enchantment removal is what you really need.

After this video I was way more impressed with golem foundry and bonder's ornament than I was expecting. So I might just run 1 bell, since the ornament can draw your whole deck anyway so finding the copy isn't too hard.

Mill both decks, pass to opponent, they draw, they lose unless they make you draw first.

I had a old deck that was just a ton of artifact kill a card 2 drop artifact that tapped to turn anything into a artifact so I played-it as land hate. So turn 2 and every turn after that it burned every land

You want to get 'em with the combo game one, then switch into a beat down plan game 2. The problem with combo is your opponent knows what you are about games 2 and 3, so they can hate it out. Your opponent brings in graveyard hate to screw your combo, passes the turn, you just go serpent -> myr enforcer, deal with 9 power, after you took a mulligan to beat a graveyard combo.

One thing I didn't even mention is that when going of the myrs can show up on random sides of your boardstate, so if you are just clicking the rightmost creature for example, randomly the myr could go to the left side and you sac your scorpion. It happened to me like 4 times before I figured out why I was accidentally saccing the wrong creature.

@@CalebGannon so the myr's place on the board isn't consistent after replaying it? So you get in the muscle memory of clicking the rightmost creature, going through the loop, and sometimes then the myr you just cast decides to resolve and be on the left side? Man, mtgo is weird piece of software.
