I haven't played pauper in a year or so, but if Tron is as big of a nuisance as it seems in the first game, you should add Suture Priest to the SB. It acts as a soul sister on your creatures and the opponent loses life every time their creatures enter.

Random magic nerd here. Trample works like this: You have to do lethal damage to the target for the damage to go through to the next. So if you have a 5/5 with trample blocked by a 2/2 with protection from creatures. You deal 2 to the creature which is lethal then 3 goes to face. The creature lives being the damage is prevented from its text (unless you skull crack, which isnt pauper legal). If there are multiple blockers you need to do lethal to each blocker before face, and you have to do leathal to the 1st blocker before you can do damage to the 2nd all the way to the Nth blocker. Fun interaction deathrocuh trample. Lethal is now 1 damage so each blocker only needs to be assigened1 damage. The rest can,go,to,face.

Only 40 minutes in, so I don't know if you'll learn the hard way, but attackers assign combat damage across creatures however they want. If the affinity player were paying attention, they could deal 2 to 2 of your creatures and 0 to the other two, or 0 to the creature you put 4 shields on and 1 to each of the others.

I know I see the damage numbers being assigned to each creature with little carots to adjust up and down when I play EDH, but I usually only get multiblocked when it's a trample creature so it could also be tied to that.

so it seems you are correct. But they have to deal lethal in order. So you need to prevent 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 (with 1/1's). It's a lot worse but still doable.

The first scenario works, put if you wait for blockers to be ordered, and then place all your shields onto the first creature in the order, then the attacker has to assign lethal damage to that creature before they can assign any damage to the next creature. The damage assigned doesn't look at shields though so you only have to assign lethal damage to the creature as if it didn't have the shields on it. However! The attacker can still assign extra damage to ensure a shielded creature dies.

@@GeekTalkwithMerg mix of both. comment is so old that I don't remember my conceivable cuts at this rate. shaving your lands in an already land light deck can be sketchy though, you essentially play land grant as another land, not in place of. in such low land count decks all-in decks, it lowers your mulligans and increases consistency

Hey played the deck before my shift start today buying the 10 cards I missed at my lgs, only lost to rdw godhands! Do you have any though on the match-up and/or what to do when they put all their spot removal on white sources? I feel like you usually draw 2 white sources early on dorks, if they kill them I feel it's hard to get back on track. This deck is next level so much fun.

Per usual: great deck! Matches looked pretty lopsided, can’t wait for next B&R announcement banning the entire sisterhood.... Caleb how about a mixture of epicure and harsh sustenance in the SB as extra non-combat win cons? What are your thoughts on siege wurm (5GG 5/5 trample convoke) vs Kavu primarch (7G 7/7 or 3G 3/3 convoke), would you value the trample over the bigger body? Looks like the primary function is (road)blocking in the video. Not sure on the use of selesnya evangel: requires two tapped creatures and a mana. That’s quite an investment. How about falkenrath noble in the SB as wrath (electrickery, swirling sandstorm, crypt rats) protection? Looking forward to more content!

I think the soul's attendant is the card that kills your auto-resolutions when a creature enters the battlefield, maybe dont play them or side them out in matchups where life doesn't matter and you're gonna time out?

49:55 702.19b. The controller of an attacking creature with trample first assigns damage to the creature(s) blocking it. Once all those blocking creatures are assigned lethal damage, any remaining damage is assigned as its controller chooses among those blocking creatures and the player or planeswalker the creature is attacking. When checking for assigned lethal damage, take into account damage already marked on the creature and damage from other creatures that's being assigned during the same combat damage step, but not any abilities or effects that might change the amount of damage that's actually dealt. The attacking creature's controller need not assign lethal damage to all those blocking creatures but in that case can't assign any damage to the player or planeswalker it's attacking. your opponent needed to assign 8 damage to siege wurm to make it lethal damage

future reference.. MTGO recognizes Essence Warden, and Soul Warden as the same trigger. So if you do those last it will auto stack them together, and save time on setting up your stack.

In my opinion i think the merfolk is better because it makes creatures which triggers lifegain which triggers epicure. It also fills out the curve to calm our mtg ocd

49:53 - You went to 7 instead of 4 because you prevented 3 damage on Siege Wurm, so they needed to assign three more damage, which would have normally trampled over, to the Wurm in order to kill it.

Specifically they only had to do this because of the Double Strike. Normally they only have to assign lethal damage, which ignores prevention, which is what they do on the first strike damage step. Then in the normal damage step they have to assign another 3 because the Wurm is still alive and has 3 more toughness than damage on it. If it was just a 46-power trampler he could have gone to 4 and had the Wurm stay alive (if opp assigned only 6 damage to it, rather than 9 in order to kill it)

Nice record! I think last opponent did the mercy play not using the strands haha. But Its fine because the game was yours anyway so it's the admirable thing for 'ponent to do. (...3rd comment this video. It's a good thing, right? The deck kinda warrants it Haha)

At around 36:50 regarding the damage prevention: As I understand it, when the attacking player decides how to distribute damage, they have to assign AT LEAST lethal damage to a creature before being able to put damage on the next one. However (and I have no idea how to do this in MTGO) as I understand it the rules do allow you to overassign damage. So they should have been able to assign two damage to two of the creatures and zero to the rest. Then each creature would one damage prevented and the two that got damage assigned to them still die. If you prevented the next four damage all on the same creature they could just choose to deal damage to the other creatures first and you’d lose three of them but that particular one is guaranteed to be safe.

Yep. On MTGO, btw, little number adjusters pop up as you're assigning damage. You tick them up/down as desired and the others adjust automatically to fit.

At sideboard against Pestilence and Oblivion Ring, you could use Devout Witness to destroy artifacts or enchantments by discarding and would be a hate agains every artifacts or enchantment decks

Spidersilk armor would be very good as electricry protection, and it's an enchantment that's harder to get rid of. Plus gives your creatures reach.

Might I suggest Selesnya Evangel for more redundant win-con in case they kill the Schoolmaster? Benevolent Bodyguard may also good off the SB to protect your key creatures. And is it possible to play prevention effects after combat damage assignment btw?

Against Affinity, I think you do want Standard Bearer because it plays around Battle Rage AND Fling, which I think are Affinity’s two best outs against you.

What actually beats this? Boros seemed like the hardest matchup because of targeted removal. Mill would do it. Elves would be funny once they found their wellwishers. Now that your list is public, you could probably get hamstrung by a red aggro deck targeting your dryads/caretakers. Targeted removal on armorer/field medic + electrickery could break the wall. There's not a whole lot else in the regular pauper meta that can deal with this much life!

Should note: the tron matchup seems very precarious. Definitely in your favor right now, as those matches prove, but you have to either deck them or epicure them. Condescend stops epicure if they know it's coming, and if there's an instant that mills you in the format, 1 sideboarded copy might flip the matchup

honestly I'm not sure. I've only lost to black removal (disfigure and crypt rats are tough) and maindeck swirling sandtorm as far as I remember. Sometimes a maindeck electrickery can catch you off-guard too.

​@@CalebGannon Your current deck mostly has to go wide to win, so it's forcing the opponents to play it out and each match is going to time. Being able to cast the lion 5 times a turn is too backbreaking for most decks and I'm guessing will lead to many early concessions. It'll also make you much less dependant on finding your draw spells. I think that's a lot more value than a 5th stonybrook.

Why doesn't auto wield doesn't just resolve the triggers? Sorry, never played modo, i don't know in detail how it works there. It doesn't have any targeting, couldn't it just resolve if you say you want to always wield to the trigger? Seems a bit stupid for it to eat the clock and waste everyone's time :/ Deck is super sweet though xD i was smiling so much while watching the video

It's something to do with the may ability on soul's attendant specifically. There should be an "I don't care how my triggers stack" button on mtgo but there isn't for whatever reason.
