Glad to hear your manhood is still intact! That’s something to celebrate! 🎉 It is true that squeezing your legs together helps to engage your core (read: mula bandha and uddiyana bandha)! So, that makes sense. But it is a nice-to-have, rather than a must-have, in these particular poses. You sound awesome, fit, and totally able to do the work. It will click!

Hey Shana! Great video, out of interest - what style of yoga do you practice? You've referenced a few Ashtanga movements is that your preferred style? Thanks! x
@YOGAthletica9 жыл бұрын
yogina thanks for writing. :) personally, i come from a free-form vinyasa style. my teachers were all ashtangis (and a few iyengars), but i never subscribe to doing the same thing every day...so i'm not an ashtangi... but this transition is one you see in ashtanga repeatedly. :)

Namaste! Thank you for the video, could you tell me, please, why do I have to point my feet in the beginning if I have to flex them in the middle? I struggle with that, I put so much effort to not flex them from the beginning ;) Have a good weekend! Ewa
@YOGAthletica6 жыл бұрын
Ewa Kuacja good question! You point so that they are closer to your tush (hence further from the floor) and therefore easier to lift.

I guess you are showing it, but never mentioning it explicitly in the video, so here's a question: when you talk about "engaging your core like crazy", are you actively pressing your knees and thighs together - not just pulling them up? I have a suspicion that it might be what I've been doing wrong all the time (keeping knees apart in order not to crush my jewels), also in my tucked handstands and in standing poses (e.g. keeping feet a little apart instead right next to each other in tadasana). So I'm certainly missing the leg squeeze instinct - but is it required?
@YOGAthletica6 жыл бұрын
clray123 keep the jewels safe and sound. You don’t have to pull your knees and thighs together. But you do have to pull your knees to your chest in this one. Engaging your core like crazy refers more to rib cage to pelvis action. Have you seen my “secret to all of yoga” video and sequel?
@clray1236 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've seen those videos, and also understood the whole bracing for the punch, keep chest down, try not to bend back concept before, and also was able to deep pulling the knees to my chest (as in each knee touching its corresponding nipple), standing or lying down. Still very poor control in unsupported handstands. But I just got back from a session in which I tried out this idea of mad squeezing together of legs, and it definitely seemed to help me (or maybe I was just in excellent shape, which is unlikely because I was hurting in overstretch department from two days before). I managed to keep my legs (including feet) together while transitioning from tucked to full handstand, and felt in control (well at least for some seconds after which the usual desperate hand walking commenced - but this time with legs not flying apart). I also have not felt very exhausted after multiple attempts. This is something which has never worked so well before. It's strange because when doing the "hop into straddle" handstand variant, the knees are also wide apart, but that variant has always worked somewhat better in terms of keeping balance for me than the tucked or the regular entering (the last of which is the worst, despite having watched tons of videos, including yours). After I recover, I'm going to check if this squeezing also helps with lolasana (another pose which I have so far found impossible so far to hold without slowly dropping down - and too painful to even practice with props). This is despite having a defined sixpack, and no problems whatsoever with navasana, hollow body holds or crunches. I suspect that my mula bandha is weak, and I often have tired feet instead of feeling "fresh and jumpy" as they should, which I think might both be related (because mula bandha seems to make legs feel lighter.) I think my manhood was unaffected by today's experiments, but only time will tell.

What are the actions of the feet when pressing into the blocks? My feet seem to get stuck into the blocks
@YOGAthletica9 жыл бұрын
+Yogamama100 point your feet with your heels towards your tush, pull your knees and ankles into a tight "x" so they can get through the blocks.
