As an ex-Scientologist that worked and trained for one of their local churches, based on the wording of the letters, someone from the church 1000% coached them on what to write in their letters. The use of "unwavering", the amount of references of him being drug-free (which is a major thing for the church) and just the general vibe of the letter shows that someone from the church helped them write the letters out.

I know it seems crazy, but it shouldn't be all that surprising. I may sound like Holden Caulfield here, but Hollywood is not a haven of paragons of virtue, it's a cesspool of phonies: people who *act* like they care about issues like r@pe, but when push comes to shove they're willing to defend terrible people if they're /friends./ How did Harvey Weinstein get away with it for so many years? Meryl Streep called him "God" in a Golden Globes acceptance speech. Yet what can generously be referred to as "his antics" were WELL-KNOWN (to the point where they joked about them, repeatedly, in sitcoms like 30 Rock.) Famous actors either willingly looked the other way or defended Weinstein until there were too many (nearly 100) corroborated stories to do so. Look at all the famous names on the Free Roman Polanski petition. Harrison Ford? Martin Scorsese? Heartbreaking. And Polanski drugged and r@ped a 13-year-old girl. Not to mention his 4-5 other underage accusers.

I've been on their end of that kind of friendship several times. The way they talk about him is very much hero worship because he's basically sold them a larger than life version of himself that is so perfect and good and inspiring that blinds you to their numerous toxic behaviors. It took a long time for me to see how toxic the people in my life were and it only started after they got bored of having me around or I wasn't useful anymore. Basically once they stopped trying to actively charm me and let the mask slip. They likely can't believe he did it because it runs completely counter to something that is very integral to their personal world views. Hence the character letters and the continuing to call him a friend and role model in spite of the conviction.

But it turns out sometime during our friendship he fell off the wagon and hurt another child. He begged me to give him a letter showing that he had great qualities and he was trying to do anything not to be chemically castrated as part of his sentence. I told him I could not do that. I did end up writing a letter to the judge however asking him to either imprisoned him and keep him away from children or chemically castrate him. I just wanted to make sure that everybody was safe. These people are so out of touch and incredibly ignorant it’s almost hilarious. Listen, honey. Just because someone is convicted of something, it does not mean they’re guilty beyond the shadow of a doubt, it does not mean they don’t have people who care about them, it dies not mean there aren’t good qualities about them, it does not mean they deserve the worst punishment there could ever be (life in prison, death sentence) and it dies not mean they don’t deserve to have the good things about them to be taken into consideration when their punishment is being decided. I’m not even talking about Danny Masterson, just talking about this from an objective stand point. Much like when accusations are brought to trial those need to be scrutinized and proven to the best of the abilities of the involved, a defense needs to be put in place and exercised to the best of the defense teams ability. Because everyone should get a defense, no matter how guilty they seem. Because sometimes it isn’t about the accused being innocent, sometimes it’s about the circumstances of it all. And so, with that in mind, if you agree that everyone should get a defense (which I’m willing to guess you do) then a character letter to appeal a lighter conviction is THE SAME THING. The defense during trial serves to help decide not only if a person is guilty but **how guilty** they are. And a character letter served to help how much punishment they should get. And it is not fair that a person gets judged by the worst thing they supposedly did in their entire lives. You wouldn’t want that for yourself, your family and loved ones. Why shouldn’t his friends write a character letter for him? Now, if you were in Ashton and Mila’s position you might not have chosen to write one and that’s perfectly fine. But there is also nothing wrong with their choice to do it. People are not just good or evil. We are all on a grey area and the existence of a character letter is the proof of that. Everyone deserves the acknowledgment of that nuance.

You have a great passion for what you do especially your values and morals in life. I respect that. I especially liked that you and Mr comfort after all the years had that adult chat. I Like to see the other people's side of the story. I also can see the frustration you had just reading some portions of her words even after she knows he was convicted. To my knowledge if you get convicted of a crime any crime that there has to be irrefutable evidence which my wife and I talk about all the time. Criminals leave clues. Guilty people leave clues. Cheaters leave clues. Robbers leave clues. E.T.C. There are just a lot of dumb criminals out there. So with that said. Danny Masterson left clues and facts which Mila and surprisingly Ashton are both in denial of. Yet they both still wrote that letter to the judge. I really hope they don't believe he's innocent. 🙄. Sorry for the lengthy Message. I'll be back because I like current events and people's perspective on current events. Take care. 🙏

To any sexual assault or sexual abuse or rape victim who sees this comment, just know that I see you and am so so sorry of what you went through. Whether it was a one time thing or continuously happened. I hope that you will heal from the traumatic experience. I too was sexually assaulted. It was by a man I knew and trusted. I don't want this comment to focus too much on me though. I wanna focus on you guys. I just want you guys to know that I see you and that what happened wasn't your fault and that I hope you heal and find peace.

I was raped when I was 17 went to the school for help the day after and the school cop told my mom that it would be a waste to go get a rape kit done because where I lived at the time they only ever went after 19% of the cases that they receive. And then it turns out he was right because when we spoke to the detective he said oh we talked to the guy he said it was mutual and only lasted a min so there is nothing we can do........ I ended up pregnant. Was still a virgin when it happened. I still have horrible PTSD.

Jaclyn, since the Eugenia topic has got more attention again, please don't feel pressured to talk about it, your mental health and your pregnancy are so much more important, plus Eugenia sadly chose her path. We send you love and support ❤❤

This is actually really disgusting, I used to like Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis and respect them for what they did for s*x trafficking victims (Mila Kunis was my celebrity crush too). This erases everything good they've done, and their apology video makes it so much worse because they almost seemed angry that they had to apologize and did not address Danny's victims even once. Also, while I doubt Topher Grace knew Danny was a r*pist at the time of working with him, everyone thought Topher was a douche for not being close to or hanging out with his That 70s Show costars, but now I'm suspecting that they cast him out because they did other immoral things that he wanted no part of, and it was convenient for them to play the victim. Despite most of the actors being horrible human beings irl, I for one still like That 70s Show, as I can usually separate the art from the artists.

The 30 years to life irritates me though. People who have killed people get shorter sentences. And those in for rape often get WAY lesser charges. I don't get it.

People who kill people don't usually get to walk around killing a slew of people over a period of several decades. And those that do certainly dont get off with lesser sentences.

The letters sound so much like stuff that was submitted at the sentencing of other Scientologists I wonder if these were written by someone in the Sea Org back in the 1980s
@lysseast2380 Жыл бұрын
I had thought these letters were written bc they thought he was wrongfully accused. After you read them and it seems like they accepted he's guilty it makes it so much worse. I honestly wonder if Mila was groomed into thinking a lot of those things were ok or normal though based on past videos I've seen resurface

Jaclyn... it's not just speculative. "Growing Up In Scientology" produced facts about the case that are backed up by the LAPD. He is also personally acquainted with Danny Masterson's victim, Chrissy Bixly, as well as the other two. The details of the case are grotesque. That Ashton left his girlfriend's body for her father to find, even with the state it was in, so that the case would not touch him or his precious career is sickening, and above all, his lie caused another victim to lose their life while a SERIAL KILLER was let to run free. Really, REALLY puts things in perspective.

They are trying to vouch for his character, but the problem is, they don't know his character. Nobody can know anyone else to such an extreme. The thing is, a person is full of nuances, sides and diverse aspects, some of which the individual want to hide from others. Just because Mila and Ashton know one side of Masterson doesn't mean that they know what he is at the core. Like, everybody has secrets and darker parts of themselves that they obviously don't want other people to know. It is funny to me how intelligent people can be so completely oblivious to this and the fact that Mila and Ashton went so far as to write a letter like this is just mindblowing.

To be clear, I am incredibly punctual because I was a theatre kid, and, was taught, "To be early is to be on time, to be on time is too be late, and to be late is to be fired". I was also trained from my tween years to explain to an auditorium full of people why I was late, and why they would all have to stay late because of my actions. That said, I have never r-worded, SA'd, SM'd, or drugged anyone. In fact, I have never violated another person's rights in any way. I also used to do prison ministry, and I understand that prison sucks, but that doesn't mean that consequences are not warranted when people cross the lines. Also, since I used to do prison ministry, I know that if you don't show remorse, then you aren't getting out of prison. The parole board has no problem denying people who don't get it yet. He won't see an opportunity until he is 77, and it is unheard of that someone will feasibly have a shot on their first parole hearing. This is actually something that causes people who have been wrongfully convicted (which Danny Masterson is not in that category) a huge problem.

For me the issues is not the letters of character but rather how it was written and the content. I do not mind someone written a letter of character and saying that someone have change for the best (in their perspective and experience) however you can also acknowledge and talked about the person charges without disregarding them in the letter. All the letter in this case which I read the all of them were ignoring, minimizing, or brushing off his charges and what he did. I remember that one letter which was of a cop excuse his charges and past behavior because he was young. Or worse they make sound that it will be unfair if he get a hefty sentence because he is a great guy and have a nice family.

I think you hit the reason for their video at the end of your clip. Somehow Scientology could be behind this whole saga. How deep that rabbit hole could go, from their video to their letters and perhaps even further back, is for someone to explore.

I watched Alexa Nikolas's Eat Predators Daily livestream about this a few days ago. At the very least, if you are going to write a character letter, can you not have it contradict the charges the person was convinced on?

Now being more serious, I honestly think that they along with everyone else that wrote letters on Danny's behalf were most likely thinking that Danny wouldn't have gotten more than a 10-year sentence max if that. Most of his supporters were probably thinking 5-10 years as a worst-case scenario. The fact that the judge gave the 30-year max is why people are coming down so hard on the people that wrote the letters. I, probably like most people didn't really pay attention to this case until his 30-year sentence was handed down and perked a lot of eyebrows.

Not defending them, but I firmly believe Mila and Ashton are hiding something. There's got to be some reason why they felt obligated to write those. Regardless, it's unacceptable. He is guilty, and nobody should stick up for him. He deserves maximum punishment.
