“The silence of a falling star, lights up a purple sky. And as I wonder where you are, I’m so lonesome I could cry”. Hank Sr. wrote that when he was 26 years old. A true poet, who left an indelible mark, dead at 29.

This is by far my favorite Alan Jackson song, it's hauntingly beautiful. This what it sounds like when a country legend gives another country legend his flowers.

I'm from Montgomery and live just down the road from the graveyard. The trains really do sound off at night and early morning. True story...my niece is a photographer and one Saturday night real late she wanted to take some pictures of his grave and we were there when a big bus pulled in. It stopped and a guy got out and asked us if we could go on our way and give them some privacy. We'll we were like who are you? Turns out it was Dwight' Yokam and his bunch. They had done a concert and wanted to see the grave that Alan Jackson had wrote the song about. 🎵

This isn't the original Hank Sr. Tribute. This song is about Hank. In 1983 David Allen Coe recorded a song that describes a personal interaction with a ghost driving an antique Cadillac while hitch-hiking to Nashville. The ghost advises/admonishing him about making it in country music. "Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues, can you bend them guitar strings..." At the end, the ghost reveals himself, "the whole world calls me Hank...." The verses are slow, the chorus is upbeat. Find the album version, or a live performance because there are additional lyrics taken out of the radio version most people are familiar with. Those lyrics are especially relevant to the song.

Since you’ve done the reaction to this song now, I’m giving y’all a link to a song by Tim McGraw. It’s a live concert. He does one song in the beginning and then he goes into a second song. That second song relates to the song y’all just reacted to “Midnight in Montgomery.” I don’t know how much reaction you’ve done with Tim McGraw, who is married to Faith Hill, but this is a live concert and I think this might open the door for more reactions of Tim.
