For a hot minute in the late 60's-early 70's Three Dog Night was the hottest band around. They had a bunch of hits, and were on TV seemingly every other week. A lot at the time. With the first line "Jeremiah was a bullfrog, was a good friend of mine",it was all anyone wanted to hear for about two months. AM radio was burning up. We need some joy right now, for sure.

I love Three Dog Night but they lost me with the "Jeremiah was a bullfrog" line. It seemed too stupid to me. I love many of their other songs like, "Never Been To Spain", "One", "Black And White", "Shambala", etc. but I thought the bullfrog thing was ridiculous.

@@mikemiller3069 It's supposed to be ridiculous. This song and Never Been To Spain were written by Hoyt Axton, who played the father in the movie Gremlins.

@@williamjordan5554 maybe it is supposed to be ridiculous but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I didn't like it when it came out and still don't. But I still like most of their other songs. It sounds like it's made for kids when they start out with the bullfrog stuff. I'm just not into it.

"Joy to the World" was one of my favorite songs when I was a little kid. Bullfrogs? Fishes? What more could a five year old boy want from a romp in the outdoors? Three Dog Night featured three great vocalists fronting a great rock-funk-soul band circa 1970. They ruled pop radio in the early seventies with over twenty top forty hits including three number ones. When you're ready for more from Three Dog Night, check out some of their other songs -- "One", "Shambala", "Eli's Coming", "Easy to Be Hard", "Celebrate", "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)", "Never Been to Spain", "Try a Little Tenderness", "Ain't That A Lotta Love", "Out In The Country", and "Black & White" among others.

"Try A Little Tenderness", "Eli's Coming", "Never Been To Spain"..soulful. "Celebrate"..just plain fun! They're a great band with 3 lead singers, great harmonies, a sense of humor too. AND one of the biggest selling bands of the 70's (for good reason). Please do more!💙☮💙

Damn, Asia, you nailed that wail!!! Right on. For several years after this became a hit, you heard and sung along with this song literally everywhere. Not just on the radio and TV, and of course we didn't have social media then, but I mean anywhere. At church, at school, on the playground, around a campfire, on the front porch, in the street, you could even be in the subway and all it takes is one person to bust out singing this and suddenly a whole bunch of people are belting along with it at the top of their lungs. It truly was a joyful thing to behold. And that lasted well into the 80s. And if you're I don't know at least 40 years or older, that would still be the case even today.

When this was brand new, at #1, in 1971, in 9th grade I had a band, I was on electric piano. I was the lead singer. We rehearsed the hell out of this, played a junior high dance, kicked butt on it. they requested it 3 times during the night. God was that fun for a kid! Now I have to take the pitch down three steps lol. Hoyt Axton wrote Joy to the World. When the song hit number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1971, Axton and his mother, Mae Axton, became the first mother and son to each have written a number one pop single in the rock era. Mae Axton co-wrote "Heartbreak Hotel", which was the first number one hit for Elvis Presley. Amazing!!!

Three Dog Night was my favorite band as a pre-teen and young teenager. They introduced me to more soulful music with their earlier recordings. Their first album “One” was a masterpiece, with plenty of reaction-worthy songs. The late, great Cory Wells singing “Try A Little Tenderness” is must listen! “One” is a classic, written by the great Harry Nilsson and so many others, like “Nobody” and “Heaven Is In Your Mind”, to name a few. “Celebrate” from their 2nd album features the brass section from the Chicago Transit Authority, later known as the band Chicago. Another must listen! Have fun with TDN! 😎🎶❤

Three Dog Night has so many great songs. It is always better to listen to this bands studio versions. They tend to get "silly" in their live versions. You don't get the best versions of some of the songs. They were my first concert but I was so disappointed, they were so stoned or sick, they could barely perform. But they have awesome voices. I was in love with Chuck, the dark haired singer.

So many hits from Three Dog Night! The band had 3 stellar lead singers. To hear Cory Wells, listen to Eli's Coming or Mama Told Me Not to Come. To hear Danny Hutton, listen to Black and White. But to hear my favorite, Chuck Negron (who sang lead on this song), listen to Easy To Be Hard. I saw him interviewed and he shared the story of recording that song... he recorded it in one take. He asked the producer to do another take and the producer said absolutely not because you could never do a better one. Amazing vocal chops!

This song was a hit around the time I was in the 6th grade. During "free period" every day, we could use our time by playing games with our classmate, doing art, working on homework (yeah right), reading, or other relatively quiet activities. We would always play music during free time, and as I recall, we only had 2 records (singles), both of which were by Three Dog Night. One of the records was a song called "One," and the other records was this one. Since Joy to the World is more upbeat than One, this one got a lot more play. Can you imagine listening to this song nearly every day, M-F, for nearly 45 minutes? Oddly, we never got sick of it. Great memories!

Great one guys, these guys kinda ruled the US charts in the late sixties and early seventies. Do more of this band, they were a really great band. I had a bunch of their records back in the day and have had a greatest hits CD for about 25 years or so and always enjoy it to this day. I'm telling you guys that talent in the sixties and seventies music was just bursting at the seams with talent and we just took it for granted assuming that it would always be that way. Boy were we spoiled, we don't have talent like this anymore. Music is a bunch of pathetic BS today, it sucks ! Like I said, we were spoiled back then and I'm thankful that I was alive to enjoy it. I think that the only CD I bought of an eighties or nineties was Shania Twain's "Come On Over " in 98. That's an incredible album that stands in any decade, great album. Oh yeah, come to think of it I bought Michael Jackson's "Thriller" Lp in 82 or 83 when it came out. CD'S weren't out yet or were just starting to be produced. I know my copy was on vinyl. Pretty good record at the time. ☮️✌️💕👌

Maybe their biggest hit in 71. Very successful 68 to maybe 75. What makes this band great is 3 great singers. Chuck Negron. Cory Welles, and Danny. Believe this was Chuck, fantastic! Many great songs. Shambala, Never been to Spain, Easy to be Hard, Eli's Coming and more. Cory did a phenomenal performance of Otis Reddings Try a little Tenderness. One of my favorite groups of all time.

We were kids, 10-12 years old singing to this running around shirtless and shoeless during the summer. We didn’t know about the loving the ladies stuff but this song had a bullfrog, fishes in the deep blue sea and joy to the world!!! Then we sang it with a bulldog instead of a bullfrog!!!! It was on like a pot of neck bones then!! Know what I’m saying!!!!

Back then the world was full of possibilities! My sister and a couple other girls had a band and they started every set with this song... All the way up until they retired a couple years ago! We are in our seventies. 😁💋💖💋💖💋💖🌟🌟🌟😆😆

Three Dog Night was a very popular band but that was in the 60s and 70s but we so need that around so much right now.

This song was written by "Hoyt Axton" you should do some of his other songs also. Here are a few "Steppenwolf - The Pusher", "Ringo Starr - No No Song", "Three Dog Night - Never been to Spain", "Lightning Bar Blues - Hanoi Rocks". Another fun fact: This guys mother, "Mae Boren Axton", co-wrote the classic rock 'n' roll song "Heartbreak Hotel", which became a major hit for Elvis Presley in the 50's.

I seem to remember that this song was number 1 for ages, finally knocked off the top by Tony Orlando’s Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree.

This is a fun band to watch live video that’s not blocked. They appeared everywhere on TV. Tons of great 60s songs! All relevant to the time socially, politically and even fashionably. Gosh that mustache and those clothes are hilariously wicked! Great band because it has three lead vocalists that are amazing. Then sadly… sex and drug overtook the rock n roll. But they are a favorite of mine…. Still❤️ Ya’ll got the”bobble head” going in this reaction. LOL. The upper deck was that range from Chuck Negron!

Been hearing this since I was young in the early 70's. I'm turning 59 on the 25th of April, and I'm still digging this song! Check out Shambala, another fun vibe, by these guys. It's fire!✌️
