For a hot minute in the late 60's-early 70's Three Dog Night was the hottest band around. They had a bunch of hits, and were on TV seemingly every other week. A lot at the time. With the first line "Jeremiah was a bullfrog, was a good friend of mine",it was all anyone wanted to hear for about two months. AM radio was burning up. We need some joy right now, for sure.

"Joy to the World" was one of my favorite songs when I was a little kid. Bullfrogs? Fishes? What more could a five year old boy want from a romp in the outdoors? Three Dog Night featured three great vocalists fronting a great rock-funk-soul band circa 1970. They ruled pop radio in the early seventies with over twenty top forty hits including three number ones. When you're ready for more from Three Dog Night, check out some of their other songs -- "One", "Shambala", "Eli's Coming", "Easy to Be Hard", "Celebrate", "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)", "Never Been to Spain", "Try a Little Tenderness", "Ain't That A Lotta Love", "Out In The Country", and "Black & White" among others.

Damn, Asia, you nailed that wail!!! Right on. For several years after this became a hit, you heard and sung along with this song literally everywhere. Not just on the radio and TV, and of course we didn't have social media then, but I mean anywhere. At church, at school, on the playground, around a campfire, on the front porch, in the street, you could even be in the subway and all it takes is one person to bust out singing this and suddenly a whole bunch of people are belting along with it at the top of their lungs. It truly was a joyful thing to behold. And that lasted well into the 80s. And if you're I don't know at least 40 years or older, that would still be the case even today.

When this was brand new, at #1, in 1971, in 9th grade I had a band, I was on electric piano. I was the lead singer. We rehearsed the hell out of this, played a junior high dance, kicked butt on it. they requested it 3 times during the night. God was that fun for a kid! Now I have to take the pitch down three steps lol. Hoyt Axton wrote Joy to the World. When the song hit number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1971, Axton and his mother, Mae Axton, became the first mother and son to each have written a number one pop single in the rock era. Mae Axton co-wrote "Heartbreak Hotel", which was the first number one hit for Elvis Presley. Amazing!!!

Three Dog Night was my favorite band as a pre-teen and young teenager. They introduced me to more soulful music with their earlier recordings. Their first album “One” was a masterpiece, with plenty of reaction-worthy songs. The late, great Cory Wells singing “Try A Little Tenderness” is must listen! “One” is a classic, written by the great Harry Nilsson and so many others, like “Nobody” and “Heaven Is In Your Mind”, to name a few. “Celebrate” from their 2nd album features the brass section from the Chicago Transit Authority, later known as the band Chicago. Another must listen! Have fun with TDN! 😎🎶❤

This song was a hit around the time I was in the 6th grade. During "free period" every day, we could use our time by playing games with our classmate, doing art, working on homework (yeah right), reading, or other relatively quiet activities. We would always play music during free time, and as I recall, we only had 2 records (singles), both of which were by Three Dog Night. One of the records was a song called "One," and the other records was this one. Since Joy to the World is more upbeat than One, this one got a lot more play. Can you imagine listening to this song nearly every day, M-F, for nearly 45 minutes? Oddly, we never got sick of it. Great memories!

Great one guys, these guys kinda ruled the US charts in the late sixties and early seventies. Do more of this band, they were a really great band. I had a bunch of their records back in the day and have had a greatest hits CD for about 25 years or so and always enjoy it to this day. I'm telling you guys that talent in the sixties and seventies music was just bursting at the seams with talent and we just took it for granted assuming that it would always be that way. Boy were we spoiled, we don't have talent like this anymore. Music is a bunch of pathetic BS today, it sucks ! Like I said, we were spoiled back then and I'm thankful that I was alive to enjoy it. I think that the only CD I bought of an eighties or nineties was Shania Twain's "Come On Over " in 98. That's an incredible album that stands in any decade, great album. Oh yeah, come to think of it I bought Michael Jackson's "Thriller" Lp in 82 or 83 when it came out. CD'S weren't out yet or were just starting to be produced. I know my copy was on vinyl. Pretty good record at the time. ☮️✌️💕👌
