The historical significance of this show is what makes being a part of this amazing. The Soviet military tried a coup against Gorbachev to prevent the fall of communism and to prevent this show from happening just days before the show. The concert was completely free also marking the first open air free festival in the u.s.s.r. A lot of significant things came after this show also.

Alright, when you started talking about the "mosh pit" I just had to chime in....in 1984 I attended a Metallica concert at the Hollywood Palladium in West Hollywood, CA. At that time Metallica was still pretty much underground and hadn't gone mainstream. The place was packed, but at the age of 29, I was definitely the oldest person there. Somehow, I ended up in the "mosh pit". I made my way to the very front of the stage and for about 15 seconds I had my hand resting on top of James Hetfield's boot. We made eye contact for a few seconds before he moved off. I never imagined at the time they'd become the legends they have. True story.
