I will never forget the first time I saw and heard Whitney Houston! It was The Greatest Love of All video in 1986. I was a 15 year old white girl in Maine, and I don’t think I had ever seen a more beautiful woman with a more amazing voice. She was positively stunning! Her loss was so tragic for the entire world, but particularly those of us who grew up with her music. She is a legend and her gorgeous voice lives on.

Aye Fellow Mainer. I was born in 2006. I never got to experience all of the legends of the past. Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, New Edition. I love watching them on KZbin, but it just isn’t the same as what I see in the crowds of their concerts. The joy from their fans. I sometimes tell myself I was born in the wrong generation. I think I’m right. Cause all I really listen to is 80s/90s music.

Asia & BJ..this beautiful song was written by Elvis's longtime girlfriend, Linda Thompson. She wrote it about their 4 year relationship (she lived with him at Graceland from 1972 to 1976) & she took the lyrics from her journal notes & poetry she wrote during their time together & as their love affair ended. Elvis had encouraged her to write & she turned out to be an excellent songwriter. Knowing who the song is about kind of makes you want to listen a little closer to the lyrics, doesn't it? And of course, Miss Whitney did justice to the emotional, heartfelt words. Gorgeous.💙☮💙

Raised in West Virginia. Had never been to the ocean. My friend. Working a job for college in the summer. Invited me up to Ocean City. So I went. Man I was in love with the beach. They had hotels sponsoring different music artists. Was in my prime. Early 20's. We went to 1 hotel. This beautiful young lady walked out on stage. About my age. Singing her debute. Warm breeze coming off the ocean. She let loose. Her name was Whitney Houston. Wow. Never heard such a beautiful voice. The following week. Her songs lit up the radio. Loved her music ever since that day.

What can you even say anymore that hasn't already been said? There is really good talent out there, there are some amazing voices, singers with power, singers with range, finesse, passion, control...Whitney had it ALL!! She was literally a generational talent. She put it all together. She could sing however she wanted, whatever the song or moment called for. I've never heard anyone have more control and command of their voice than her, no one!! And she was such a beautiful soul on top of it all! There will never be another Whitney Houston. So thankful I had the opportunity to grow up hearing her! We miss you Whitney......

What I love about Whitney Houston is her pacing. She is *soooo good* and she know it that she leave so much room in her song just to let the emotions sink in for a bit before she pulls you back in it. You know your good when you just let everything drop out for a quick pause to give a song breathing room so the listener can gather themselves. It really show her level of skill bc most ppl who sing her songs tends to rush thru it like I have to hit that note so they're focused on hitting each note right which tends to make ppl speed thru the song. But when you KNOW you can hit it, you throw in that dramatic pause as an accent to the music. It was like that speech class I once took and the teacher said that unseasoned speakers tend to have filler word (like, um, uhh, you know - those are words ppl tend to use to fill in space a silent space when giving a speech bc ppl tend to get nervous where there is silence) but when you are seasoned, you embraced that negative space in time. Pros are comfortable with that void of space.

Such a beautiful voice. Also, please review Angelina Jordan's official video cover of I Have Nothing. Whitney was a soprano as noted by some vocal coaches on KZbin. She sang the song in the key of G on the record but sang in the key of F (one step lower) live. Angelina sings it in the key of E (one and a half steps lower), which was intentionally arranged to highlight her beautiful lower register. Angelina sang it in the higher key of G when she was younger but it was not the best key for her type of voice. Thanks.
