Fun fact: Filipino and Indonesian languages are related! All of them are part of the great Austronesian language family, which also includes the native Taiwanese languages and most Polynesian languages. :) In terms of "relatedness", Filipino, Malaysian, and Indonesian languages are actually some of the earliest members of the family that diverged (split 3000-4000 years ago), but our ancestors had close trading ties with one another which could have led to language sharing. The most recent languages that developed are theorized to be the Pacific-Polynesian group (split just within the last 2000 years). Reference: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austronesian_languages

There are plenty of reductions like that in order to save time. Some are even reflected in the written language. For instance, characters that end in ku or tsu are often reduced to a small つ which means you repeat the next consonant. For instance: 結 is Ketsu and 構 is kou, but 結構 is 'kekkou.' Its a little confusing at first, but very natural once you understand it.

im filipino and im not kidding when i say i admire all the languages here. i frequent hong kong and i guess even though i dont understand cantonese, i developed the ability to differentiate cantonese from mandarin through their sound. if i hear the "zh" sound, i immediately know that it's mandarin. For cantonese, the 6 tones are cool and one unique feature i remember is how some sounds, like 'g' and 'k', may be interchanged but you can't screw up the tones. For korean/thai/japanese, i guess i just got used to these languages because of the shows i watch and theyre all pleasing to the ears. bahasa indonesia has always intrigued me because it has many similarities to one filipino regional language called the ilocano (sometimes called iloko), which i speak. we also frequently use the trilled r sound. vietnamese, on the other hand, sounds fascinating to me. there's something about their tone that makes it so endearing and complex at the same time.

Sometimes I wonder if Filipino don't like people from Hong Kong. Because relationship between Hong Kong people and Philippine people is mostly employers and employees. And because of that, we growing up thought that people from Philippines are only domestic helpers and don't know much. Of course, I heard story like them having degrees and still ending up in Hong Kong, just because of the salary difference. People who really think about it, know it's just the world being not fair. But it's just such a thing that is deep inside our mind. Most people just don't care enough or can't really think about others, and just think others' are less capable.

That's because Cantonese has 6 tones while Mandarin has only 4 tones. Ordinary sentence can create some emotional effect like song because its tone variation. Even Mandarin speak will find Cantonese sound fascinating.

I have been learning Indonesian for along time. And in this video just represent formal form, if u dive deeper it will be more complicated bcs all different from what u learn b4.
@jeremia85154 жыл бұрын
True not to mention the ethnics, indonesia has 633 ethnics which each ethnic speaks different words and pronounciations. also the sentences from the video are formal while mostly indonesians speak informal. But as long as u can speak the main language (bahasa). U can socialize with the native speakers well and they will understand it.

I'm Vietnamese person and I know that most of comments in this video is that 'Vietnamese is weird, awful, annoying'. However, I don't care. Vietnamese is my motherland's language and I love it.
