The Maple Table

Күн бұрын

The Hakken resemble western werewolves in looks only. Those born and raised in the east are more respectful towards their fellow werewolves, changing breeds, and even humanity itself. Following the tenants of Bushido, the way of the warrior, the Hakken are honorable and proud opponents. They are the primary defenders of the beast courts and they don't carry a high opinion of the Garou Nation.

Have you ever considered having geographical break down videos of the continents in the World of Darkness? Like say you pick a continent (or some smaller area) and then give a broad strokes run down of the major story beats going on in the current lore for Vampire, Werewolf, and Mage. My favorite thing to do in WoD is to have crossover games with the various playable monsters/supernaturals teaming up for one reason or another. So I think it’d be really cool to show people how the various WoD settings interact with each other.

It was very interesting to learn more about Hakken. They turned out to be pretty cool guys, though not without their flaws. Hengeyokai is a very entertaining setting and has a lot of potential. In general, I really love the Asian part of the World of Darkness, although it has its own problems. But nevertheless, its atmosphere is simply gorgeous. Thank you for your excellent work! It would be nice to see more videos about Beast Courts 👍

Thank you so much for covering the Hakken. Thank you for continuing to cover Werewolf The Apocalypse. There is not a lot of content for World of Darkness let alone Werewolf. I use your videos to help keep my mind on WoD and give me ideas for things to throw at players every Thursday when I DM werewolf. Right now, I have my players fighting off a massive Fomori infestation in a small city in Arizona. They know that one part of the problem is a large number of rust spiders but they are about find out another big reason why so many banes are loose in this city and turning people into fomori. We have a Glasswalker Galliard Metis, Bone Gnawer Ragabash Lupis, a Wendigo Philidox Lupis, and a Silverfang Ahroun Lupis in the pack though the pack Totem has yet to fully approve of the Bone Gnawer and Silverfang so those two don't get to benefit from the pack totem just yet. Really looking forward to tomorrow.

Congratulations on the Hakken my friend! There are some wolf species that lived in Japan are Japanese Wolf (Canis lupus hodophilax) aka the Honshu Wolf and the Hokkaido Wolf (Canis lupus hattai) aka the Ezo Wolf. Japanese is my both dream and goal to there because I want make new friends there. But not just friends but Anime voice actors, manga artists and Japanese Idols. Also I can speak a little bit on Japanese when I am watching anime. I also watched anime since I was very young. Even the people of Japan made culture with wolves too like Wolf's Rain, Wolf Children and more.

A big theme you'll notice when reading the WoD stuff written back in the 90s and early 00s, is that Westerners are dumb, greedy and jealous and their history is nothing but brutality towards everyonr else, while all other non-western cultures are noble and preservatory towards nature. This can be seen in any of the Asian themed splatbooks and Werewolf books that speak of fera native to non-european lands (WW had a massive case of The Noble Savage) and especially the revised Wendgo tribe book which is one of the most racist books I've ever read. (You could lift paragraphs out of that book and replace "whites" with "jew" and you'd think it came from Mein Kampf)
@TheMapleTable
@TheMapleTable 2 жыл бұрын
Yea some of it had a really off vibe
@tacitus6384
@tacitus6384 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMapleTable Like I totally get that they could be a tribe (speaking of the Wendigo) that harbours a lot of resentment, and reconciling those historical animosities with present day practicality is a really compelling narrative. But the author openly writes that lots of members of the tribe fantasise about wiping out every man, woman and child (of a certain ethnicity) in huge geographical regions, it just went way too far, it really soured me to the tribe as a whole and so if I ever run games with them I dial that aspect of them back. For the Hakken, I think Samurai Werewolves is an awesome idea, but reading about them really did give the vibe of not wanting to offend another culture and so going a bit over the top in romanticising their cultural icons. There were many honourable samurai and the Bushido code is an excellent set of principles, but the Sengoku period (the period most associate with the samurai) was mind-warpingly brutal and violent because there's the 'ideals' and there's the reality - the reality that though there were great samurai, many were also mercenary thugs that brutally oppressed peasants and would eventually go to war against the state to preserve their privileges. Some really cool idea and story-telling possibilities but not the greatest handling, imo

Very cool video, but I have suggestion. I had this video in my recommended and I'm unfamiliar with your content. I think your videos would be more approachable if you're intro addressed the topic a little bit more generally. Like when I started the video I had absolutely no idea what you were talking about or what the Hakken were from. As someone who also doesn't know anything about Werewolf: the apocalypse, I think your content could really appeal to a wider audience if you addressed what the topic of your video originates from, giving a brief description of the source, and then you do your dive into the more specific aspects. Otherwise a pretty good video with some interesting lore. Keep it chief! Edit: Also a the format, and the editing of your video is well done!
