True. Is Spain the Asian immigration we get is mostly from China. Then Japanese food came storming in and lately Korean Wave is pushing hard. All 3 with similar traits to us. So we are full Western Stereotype: Asian = East Asian. I don’t even think many Spaniard have ever seen and Indian walking down the street.

I just wanted to say this since no one else in the video spoke about it but you can still be Indian and have East Asian features. They live in the North East region. India is very diverse that way, unlike East Asia which is more homogeneous. So answering Ronny's question; yes, you will fit right in although I should admit Bollywood has representation issues but Bollywood is not the whole Indian film industry anyways.

I think we Asians who live in Asia in general just more secured with our identity, because we live in Asian environments, practice/wear our Asian cultures in daily basis. We also consume local media such as local tv show/movies. Diaspora Asians though, they don’t have that privileges, that’s why they develop these “representations” issues, there are stereotypes/slurs about how they disconnected from their Asian roots, many of them can’t speak their mothertongue languages, etc. I guess that’s why some of them might more easily offended when they’re confronted about their Asian identity.

I'm a Filipino. I see myself as an Asian. I see Indians as Asians. I see the Chinese as Asians. I see the Japanese as Asians. I see Saudis as Asians. I see Kazakhs as Asians, I see the East Timorese as Asians, etc. That's what makes our entire Asian neighborhood so interesting. We are quite diverse. Yes, we do not always get along; that's a normal part of living in such as diverse neighborhood. But we are proud of our continent in the same way that we're proud of our countries. And despite our differences, isn't it interesting how we manage to keep things relatively peaceful? In fact, this part of the world is quickly becoming a political, economic, and cultural powerhouse. That's the Asian way! We annoy each other sometimes but we also understand that we are all connected, and that our situations can have a ripple effect on our neighbors. Therefore, we still look out for each other because taking care of others means taking care of ourselves. (Although not in an interventionistic way Westerners would.) It is something we all have in common. This is in exact opposite of the Western way of living-atomistic individualism-where you are on your own and it is easy to feel lonely and alone. Btw, I like Indian culture so much, especially their food. One of the best cuisines in the world if you ask me. Same with Chinese and Japanese culture. I love all Asian cultures, period. I've never been to India but I will be soon. I've been to China and the country was nothing short of breathtaking. I have also been around our beautiful Southeast Asian neighborhood. Huge fan of Indonesian, Malaysian, and Vietnamese cuisines. Hanoi is my favorite city in the SEA followed by Surabaya in Indonesia. I was in Taipei recently too. I ❤️ Asia! 🌏

The term "Asian" has historically referred to people from Turkey to India. This is because the Greeks believed India was the end of the world. When the Greeks learned that there there more lands to the east of India, those lands became known as the "Orient", which means "east", and the people as "Oriental." Unfortunately, the term "Oriental" developed a negative connotation and people formerly known as Orientals are now also considered Asian. Technically speaking, E. Asians are not actually Asians in the traditional sense of the word. FYI.

As often with Asian Boss videos, I'm not commenting much on the topic covered, but rather on the meta. Here in France, India is often, if not always, portrayed as 'a world apart' in the media, whether it be news or documentaries. So it's great to see these people and how much they are actually 'like me' and how much I can actually relate to them. Even their accent is easier for me to understand than many people from the US or the UK, for instance.

That's probably because when you look at engineering learning ressources in english, a large percent are going to be indian. Whereas if you look at the same type of ressources in french, well, you end up with obviously french results. India is geographically a part of the continent of ASIA. However, we are also a sub-continent consisting of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal & Sri Lanka. We are an active member of the Asian Games & all Asian conferences. This is taught in Geography/ Social Science subject in schools in India. So, psychologically Indians automatically consider themselves as Asians. Popular media, however, throws up a lot of East Asian content ... call it the major presence of K-pop, Kdrama, East Asian drama, etc. Also, racially & visually East Asian mongoloid features are very different from the usual 'Indian' Aryan/Dravidian features which are more angular. I am from the North East of India. I have mongoloid features and whenever I have travelled abroad I am called every other East Asian nationality other than an Indian. In Nigeria, I become a 'Chinese'; In Thailand, Singapore & Indonesia I become a local citizen. India is a crazy beautiful complex world of races, cultures, religion and ideologies. We, as Indians have had to face so many varied challenges that thru those experiences & grit we are now making a strong presence EVERYWHERE, be it economy, sports or culture. Proud to be an INDIAN who is from the North East part of the country within the continent of ASIA 😊

One of the most well known tales in Chinese culture is Journey to the West. Which is literally about a Chinese Buddhist monk who goes to India to get scriptures. So I’m sure they are well aware. There are many South East Asians who ethnically/racially don’t look like him, because SEA is such a huge area & consisted of many diverse ethnic groups and cultures. So even if the new PM is someone Ronnie can relate to, it probably won’t be the same to other SE Asians. I think the skit is really good because not only it’s funny, but also it brings conversations about what the definition of being an Asian is. Here in the UK, (where Rishi Sunak resides) when we say 'Asian' we generally mean Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, etc and ironically people often say "East Asian" or assume "Chinese" for anyone who looks remotely East Asian (not saying that's right). The comedians joke is banking on the American audience's ignorance of how much more South Asians there are than East Asians here in the UK. I'm black Caribbean not Asian so I don't have a dog in this debate but just thought I'd share some context.

Being an Indian I feel more proud to be called Indian. Cause just imagine a person from east Asia called an "Asian". No one knows exactly where they come from whether they're Chinese or Japanese etc... But when I'm called Indian what I feel proud about is out of all Asia or let's say South Asia we're specifically well known with an identity globally understood by everyone. That's why I'd preferred to be either called an Indian or a South Asian instead of "Asian" term. Especially for the fact that we as a nation are being highly recognised globally for both our positive and negatives (my opinion tho...)

I mean, that is basically the reason “Asian” ended up being the descriptor for East Asians in the US. Cuz Westerners had a hard time telling Chinese/Japanese/Koreans apart, so we are generically “Asian” to them. In recent years, I get the sense that some Indians get offended when we don’t call them Asian, but it’s entirely an American thing. It’s nice to hear this perspective that you like being referred to as Indian. But in an effort to not offend, I will start referring to Indians as Asians. And East Asians for people from the Eastern Asian counties.

One thing I'd always want to tell to a foreigner as an Indian would be, "India is not what you heard/read/watch in news/shows/movies...India is what you witness and experience on your own." Have seen multiple foreigners experience that and ofc gets settled here in India. We have a lot more to offer to a specific individual from ANY part of the world. That kind of diversity you'd not find anywhere else. We have been living and growing with that diversity which I consider as India's BIGGEST strength which no one else could ever have. And, being told that Indian are NOT Asians, it's true I felt bit offended when I saw that skit for the first time but now I am more comfortable and proud to be called Indian than asian. I understand where this guy is coming from, where I'd say "no comment". Like one gentleman in this video said, every stereotypes is due to THE complete ignorance & always have an answer as to why ! You just gotta educate yourself. Also, very amusing part, the music world tours whenever any artist announces the ASIAN tour, it's always the OTHER ASIAN countries. Never seen any artist include India as part of their "ASIAN TOUR" (there might be someone, but I never really come across any...) which shows how illogically it's normal for everyone to decide India is not a part of ASIAN without any discussion.

You could be Korean, Japanese, Filipino, Thai - many people will call you ‘Chinese’ unless you corrected them. I remember at my school everyone called this dude “Chinese Kevin”. They look more "Indianish" than typical "Southeast Asian". I don't like comparing them to Indian features because they aren't "Indian". Those tribes, like many of the tribes of India and various parts of Southeast Asia, descend primarily from an ancient East Eurasian lineage that traditionally had rounder eyes, darker skin straight or wavy hair before the development and arrival of lighter skinned neo-East Asians into Southeast Asia. There just isn't a word in the English language that can describe that type of phenotype. Fantastic answers. Very thoughtful. India is a very unique country with very ancient and rich culture. I am SE Asian and quite frankly the majority of the western world when they think of Asians, they think of East Asians only from the soft power influence China, Japan, and Korea exerted. Sometimes SE Asians are somewhat excluded or forgotten as Asians as well. SE Asia are also very culturally and genetically diverse which I think it is difficult for some to see as Asian when they compare other Asian groups to East Asians. Btw I don't find that skit to be all that funny.

I always think of India as being a country on the Asian continent. It's called a subcontinent for the countries in that vicinity. Always though it was confusing. Asia is a large continent with many countries. Easy to make a mistake if your not familiar with Asia and the Subcontinent. However people from Asia usually just say where they're from. Even that can confuse some. Good feed back and opinions and Indians know for sure where they are from. Enjoyed this immensely.

India is quite interesting, it's called a subcontinent because each of their states are divided along ethnic lines so it's like a continent made up of smaller countries. Each state has its own ethnic group, language and culture. They really are quite diverse. It's a shame they don't use that to boost their soft power.
@malithaw
@malithaw 2 жыл бұрын
@@user-jt3dw6vv4x It's not just India alone is called "subcontinent". The entirety of south Asia is "the subcontinent". This is why it's called just "the subcontinent" and most people don't call it "indian subcontinent" anymore because people are confusing subcontinent with India.

South Asia is called a subcontinent, the only one of it's kind because there's so many diverse groups of peoples and cultures that are very similar but different at the same time but mainly connected through a shared cultural/religious/political heritage. It's not geographically a continent but culuturally/religiously it's very much different from rest of Asia and hence can be called as another continent within a continent.

imagine thinking the people that live in a country located in asia, aren’t asian EDIT: i don’t think you people realize what being asian means, asian is someone whose roots come from the geographical continent of asia. just because white people typically only think of asia as china, japan, and korea does not make it correct. an asian is anyone from an asian country, there’s not a set asian appearance nor culture because it’s a huge continent, just how not everyone in africa, europe etc has the same culture because OBVIOUSLY every nation is gonna have differences, same thing applies to asia. it amazes me how influenced you are by white peoples perception, as if they have any rights to comment on who is asian and who isn’t
