Firstly, Yoon's martial law was invalid because of omitting the required process, the cabinet members meeting. Secondly, the reason why Yoon declared the martial law is groundless. Thirdly, Once the parliament decisides on annuling the effectiveness of the martial law, Yoon should abide by it in accordance with the constitution. Besides the aboves, Yoon ordered the army to obstruct congressmen to the Capitol Hill, which constitutes the crime of betrayal. Yoon has no wiggle room except for stepping down and standing on the court.

It was about one months before Hong Kong students uprising. After week or so back in California, I read about students protest in Hong Kong. I was nervous because my wife was still in Hong Kong tending her mother, my mother in law. Everyday I will WhatsApp her, ask if things still calmed at her area. She said no worried. Three weeks into month of October 2019, citizens became nervous and expatriates began to leave Hong Kong. I asked my wife again, she said some daily activities started to be effected, such as some bus routes were stopped until further notice. As her husband, I was more nervous. Good thing she was able to board her flight a week later. When she arrived at our local airport, I just hugged her to pieces.

​@@pito6979 from the news I've gathered so far, there has been word being passed around the Korean government that Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol would try something like this, especially with (soon to be former) Minister of Defence within his circle. It's just that dictators have a history of failing to stay in power for a long time in South Korea and this would discourage him to do such high-risk move. This came about because within this year the president hasn't been very popular among the populace of South Korea because his inability to pass his own budget bill, the corruption cases related to his family members, and the fact that he presided over one of the most horrific case of mass stampede in recent history. The move blindsided everyone because despite of his difficult position at the moment, he was the attorney general who was actively involved in the impeachment case of another SK president, Park Gyun-Hye over her abuse of power case. As someone who has been practicing law most of his life, he should have known that the move is very risky at best. So I believe that the US had nothing to do with this (The White House has released a statement which indicated that they were equally stunned by the news) and that this is a case of a poorly attempted consolidation of power from the side of Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol.
