Really good review, Sean; thank you. I especially appreciated your comparison to the Endorphin Pro 4 at the end, where you made the important point that these really are very different shoes, and for a marathon, well, who knows?! Such a tough problem for so many of us to solve!
@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
Thanks. Yeah, the marathon is such a challenge to get everything right. In a one mile race, it’s definitely the Paris over the Pro 4 for me. But I’m no where near an elite runner. So if the Pro 4 proves to be more stable and comfortable and helps me to maintain my goal marathon pace, that may actually be the better shoe for me for 26.2. I’m definitely going to test both out in some longer runs and will see how they perform. I’d love to take the super light Edge Paris for the marathon, but still need to figure out if it’s the right choice for me.

@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
I’m actually planning on running in the AP3, Edge Paris, Endorphin Pro 4 and Vaporfly NXT % 2 back to back later today. I’ll have a video review comparing them soon. The AP3 and Superblast are wider and more stable than the Edge Paris. The Paris is much lighter and faster though. The Paris has more bounce and propulsion than the AP3. But I know I can go long in the AP3. I ran the NYC marathon in that shoe in 2022. I have yet to test out the Paris in a very long run. Will be doing that soon. The Superblast has a nice bouncy ride but the Paris has more forward propulsion. I haven’t run in the Sky Paris. Was only going to buy one of the two, and from the reviews that I watched, it seemed like the Edge would be better for me. I have more of a midfoot to heel strike and am more of a cadence runner. I’d love to try the Sky as well, but didn’t want to buy both. To date I have made a grand total of $0 from my KZbin channel. So need to be selective with what shoes I buy. You need 1,000 subscribers before they share any ad revenue. Hopefully I can make something off of the channel at some point and use that to buy more shoes to review. Look for more videos coming out soon where I compare the Paris to some other super shoes.

I was torn between the edge and sky because I am a forefoot striker and it has a wider forefoot base. But I don’t run fast paces and some people said they felt it didn’t work at slower paces.
@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
I won’t be able to comment on the Sky, since I only have the Edge. The big difference is the placement of the plate. The consensus seems to be Sky for foot-foot strikers and those with a longer stride. Edge for heel strikers and those looking for more forward roll than upward bounce. It would be great if we all could have the chance to run in both of these, to see what is really better for us, before making that purchase, but that most likely won’t be an option for most people.

Good review on the heel striking to mid foot striking note.
@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
Thanks. It seems like not everyone knows if they are a Stride or Cadence runner. But most people know their foot strike. From what I’ve seen, it looks like the Sky works better for fore foot strikers and the Edge for heel strikers. It would be great if we all could take these shoes for a “test drive” before buying, to see which one really works better for us. I think most people would be able to tell what feels better for their running mechanics in them almost immediately.

My right foot is always a bastard in terms of fit, my left foot is good in any shoe I throw on it. Also over pronate with my right foot. Thanks for the review.
@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
There is reinforcement in the upper of this shoe by your little toes. That’s what was falling down over my toes at the beginning of my run. Thankfully that feeling went away over the course of the run. This is definitely not a shoe for anyone with a wider foot. If I could do it again, I’d get a 12.5 in this shoe to have a little more room upfront. I’ll keep wearing thin socks with these. Although these felt unstable when walking around or standing still, the instability was not that bad when I got them moving. I still need to see how stable they feel on a longer effort. I’ll definitely do an update on this shoe once I put more runs in them.

Was nice meeting you as well. You were the first person to recognize me from my channel. So that was a cool moment for me. I don’t think I’m going to go for the Alphafly 3. The Alphafly 1 really didn’t work for me. So not ready to put up the big bucks for that one. I’m a bigger runner, 6’4’’ 230. I think that I compressed the air pods too much and that shoe wasn’t efficient for me.

Great review. I have the Metaspeed Edge plus and Sky plus. Sky Plus amazing shoe for max effort but Edge Plus is good for any pace. I even take them for recovery runs. Metaspeed Sky Plus and Alphafly V1 give me foot fatigue if I run not at max effort. The drop or plate location don't work for me at slower speeds. I am worried about the low drop in the Metaspeed Edge Paris. Vaporfly V2 is great for me so I like the higher drop being a heel striker and slow runner.
@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
Thanks! It sounds like you really know what shoes work for you. I also had issues with the Alphafly 1 and wouldn’t take those for a marathon. I did not run in the Sky or Edge Plus. So I can’t speak to those. I won’t be running in the Sky Paris, since I didn’t want to buy both the Sky and Edge. From other reviews that I’ve seen, it looks like the Edge Paris works better for heel strikers and the Sky for forefoot strikers. The Edge is more designed to get you rolling forward (which is what I like) while the Sky wants to give you more of a vertical bounce. On that initial run, I didn’t really notice the drop of the Edge. I was just enjoying it so much. I feel like it will do great for shorter races but need to see how they do over a longer effort. I’ll be posting more videos as I put more miles in the shoe and compare it to some of my other super shoes.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. If I had it to do again, I’d probably get the 12.5 to give myself a little more room in the toe box. But hoping I can get away with the 12.

I looked at those at a store. They’re having some kind of demo day or something and that’s the exact same thing. I thought why I didn’t put an order in for one they’re real narrow and real high and the cushioning is real soft and I thought towards the end of a race when I’m getting tired and I won’t be able to really push it, it wasn’t gonna go good for me. Really curious to see what
@runwithsean8 ай бұрын
Yeah. I find this shoe amazingly light and propulsive. However, the narrowness of the shoe does make me concerned about trying to take it 26.2. Especially since I am a taller, heavier runner. I’ll be testing these out in a lot of short races this summer: 5k, 10k, 5 mile. I’ll definitely post updates on how the shoe performs for me. I’d love to take it for a marathon, but an concerned about being in such a narrow shoe for 3 plus hours.

Re: Right shoe feeling tighter than the left - I'm having the same issue. I ordered a second pair to size up a 1/2 size and it just seems too roomy in the front now.
@runwithsean8 ай бұрын
Interesting that wasn’t an issue exclusive to me. I have found that after putting more miles into the shoe that the upper has adapted to my foot a bit and it’s not bothering me. I’d like to try a half size up but the fit is nearly perfect. So I may have the same issue as you of a half size up having too much room.
@kikinomad8 ай бұрын
@@runwithsean I ended up returning both pairs. The one was too short in the rt shoe (the left felt perfect) and the 1/2 size up was a little long and had too much volume and gaping on the top. Unisex sizing = a men's shoe.

How do you compare them to your Tokyo-sky shoes? (I see them on your shelf)
@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
Lighter, softer, bouncier and better. I was able to run fast in the original Sky, but found that shoe extremely stiff and not very comfortable for longer efforts. So far the new Paris is feeling like an upgrade in every way. I’m looking forward to racing in them and trying them out over a longer run.
@isidrotormogarcia48799 ай бұрын
Interesting video. I know you are an Endorphin Elite lover. For a 10k or a Half Marathon would you choose the Metaspeed Edge Paris over the Elite?
@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
A question that I’m asking myself right now. I’m going to match those two shoes up soon. I really want to use them one right after the other to do a better comparison. 10k or 5k, I’m thinking Paris all the way. The Paris is just so light. I think it’s about 1.5 Oz lighter than the Elite. They are both very propulsive shoes. The Elite definitely feels more stable but I run faster in the Paris. The foam in the Elite is firmer. The Paris has more bounce. If it turns out that the Paris is stable enough for me to run long in, I feel like I’ll choose that shoe for any distance. It’s a bit more forgiving than the Elite. Those are two really excellent shoes though. I need to see how the Paris does for me going long. I’ll definitely post updates as I get more miles in them.

Interesting, my Superblasts are 11 and got the edge in 11 and they are fine. I am neutral to supinate so hopefully the stability will be ok. These were run in the US Olympic Marathon Trials but the winners wore the sky. Have not run on them yet so wearing the pro 3 for and upcoming 1/2 but will start to run in them after.
@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
I find the Superblast more roomy overall. I definitely find it a bit longer than the Edge and it has some more volume in the upper as well. We’ll see with my upcoming runs if I wish that I went for the 12.5 in the Edge or if the 12 ends up working for me. The edge feels unstable moving slowly and walking around. But most of these big shoes do. I didn’t find it that unstable at speed, which is really what it’s designed for. I want to take them for a long run at 7:15-7:30 pace and see how they do there. 7:15 will be my goal marathon pace in October. I’d love to wear this insanely light shoe for the marathon. As long as the stability and fit work for me, I most likely will.
@0427669 ай бұрын
That's what worries me - the adidas adios pro 3 (which I'm running the nyc 1/2 in) though heavier than this, has more landing area in the rear - something I really tend to do as I go for longer runs 1/2 marathon plus and may get tired - I worry about these after 20 and with a 10k left that I don't roll my foot by mistake due to be tired or where my form "tires" a bit.
@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
@@042766I’m with you on that one. I do find the AP3 more stable right out of the box. I have to try running long in the Paris and see how they do for me. I’ll definitely post an update when I do that.

@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
Yes. I own and ran in the original Sky. I didn’t get the Sky +. My experience with the original was that the foam was too firm. So I skipped the plus and wanted to give these a try, since they have the FF Turbo + foam.
@Fozzee.19709 ай бұрын
The explanation is more that the stride runner increases stride by a higher precentage than cadence percentage, of course the cadence will increase regardless.
@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
With these shoes, ASICS can make their recommendation for what type of runner they intend them for. But what works best for each person will really depend on their preference of what the shoe is doing for them. From what I’ve seen, the Sky gives you more of a vertical bounce and the Edge more forward propulsion. In theory, that means the Sky will help to bounce a stride runner from stride to stride and the Edge will help a cadence runner to get their turnover up. But it’s quite possible that some cadence runners will prefer the Sky and some stride runners will prefer the Edge. I’d love to try the Sky as well, but won’t be buying that one. From the reviews that I saw prior to purchasing, the Edge looked like the better choice for me.
@Fozzee.19708 ай бұрын
@@runwithseanyes it's possible people will find they like the opposite model for other reasons but that's still the concept behind them. I've ended up keeping the Edge too but more because I find it more stable.

Hi, Sean. Great video! I bought the Metaspeed Sky Paris and got it in the mail today. Can’t wait to try it out tomorrow! Regarding your comment about cadence always going up at faster paces…I am a stride runner so my cadence hardly changes at faster paces (only about 5 spm from 8:30 min/mile down to 6:30 min/mile), but my stride increases by about 12 inches per step. Cadence runners will increase BOTH stride and cadence as they increase pace. Tim Grose has a really good video on this topic with very helpful graphs and analyses that clearly show the difference between the two types of runners. Check out time stamp at starting about 2:00 minutes in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYDKaX-Qpduhf7Msi=AlkjogQt8nQxL1Yz

They are definitely a tight fitting upper. Two runs in them so far. Did a 5 mile tempo run in in them today. So far I have not experienced any rubbing or pain in the arch. I think that anyone with a wider foot would definitely have an issue in this shoe though. I think it will be great for anyone who it fits, but a lot of people will have a hard time with the fit of this shoe.

@runwithsean9 ай бұрын
@@woidmoasta4673I’d agree with that. The ASICS is much narrower than the Endorphin Elite. If that shoe fits you perfectly, I’d think that the Paris will be too narrow for you.
