Fantastic review as always. I have 40 km in mine. Great for long runs but takes a while to get going not the biggest fan of it during first 3-4k feels stiff. I LOVE that it's a tad softer makes the easier efforts more tolerable. I feel like this shoe has completed my rotation. SNR for daily miles, SB2 for long runs with easy/moderate paces, DNE3 for racing/track work, and ES4 as a versatile option but mainly for threshhold and tempo runs. Happy running ya'll.

my US13 comes in at 298 and 300 g compared to 296 and 297 g of the v1, so negligible increase. Feels pretty much like v1 and I love it, maybe a tiny bit softer. v1 is the shoe I put the most km on last year and this will take its place, even tough probably some of the easier runs will be in the Neo Vista. For me as a heavier runner and heel striker the amount of foam is great, a bit firmer than I usually like it but works great and just eats up the miles.

I can see where this shoe would be an absolute perfect fit for you. The biggest thing I’m curious about is how soft this shoes gets around 300-500km. FFTurbo+ definitely softens up much more than FFTurbo ever did.

@SagasuRunning my SB1 took a little to break in, and is going strong since, now coming up to 700k, amazing durability in upper, mid- and outsole. If the SB2 comes anywhere near I'll be happy, most shoes I have to retire much faster between 300 and 500k.

Out of interest how does your US 13 in this fit you compared to your other shoes? Somewhat annoyingly that is the largest size they do and I am almost always a US 14 in anything. That said a US 14 in any Novablast has always felt about 0.5 size longer than pretty much all my other US 14 shoes in every other brand.
@therunophil
@therunophil Ай бұрын
@TimGrose is this a trick question? After reviewing the reviewers now commenting on the commenters?🤣 Sorry if I don't match your standards, but I don't have an excel file at hand 😉, but I will say that is has a very normal fit in terms of length, same space in front of the toes as e.g. Adios Pro 3, Endorphin Pro 3, Vaporfly 3 or a Takumi Sen 9, a good thumb each, all in US13. Width is certainly wider than the Adidas (they tend to be too narrow for me for longer efforts, volume is on the more generous side, I have a rather high midfoot and normally have to loosen the laces quite a bit, the SB2 is not extreme but among the (for me) better ones. Hope that helps.

I just finished a 15 mile long run in the Superblast 2.👍👍👍 It felt great in NYC heat. My only issue is I had a little heal rubbing. I think any shoe would give me an issue in hot humid conditions. I'm going to use it for San Francisco Marathon. I don't want a marathon racer for a course that I'm not going to running "fast".

Ya, Asics's heel designs can rub my achilles... no pain, cut or blistering for me ever, just reddening. Especially in hot humid weather. As a formed NYC resident...I know EXACTLY the weather you are dealing with...I can feel it in my bones after nearly 25 years there. For a marathon you aren't going to be "racing"...then the SB2 is ideal.

One of the best reviews I have seen in a long time and I have had V1 since it came out has less than 100 miles in it so far but not for long. I was saving it only for long runs and did my first 1/2 marathon in it last year as my feet were not agreeing to carbon shoes being a noob to running. I am excited and want the V2 hopefully stock gets much better. I plan to use it for lots of long runs and maybe a full marathon

Still logging the miles on the SB1. I use it as you described: long runs with workouts (like marathon surges and fast finish). Otherwise, for easy pace long runs, I'll use the Novablast. I can completely understand the thought of it being too much for daily miles, but as someone who's been dealing with hallux rigidus after a tendon injury in January, it's been a true help. While I want to run in something smaller for daily miles, I really have been needing a stiffer shoe to prevent the pain in the toe joint and the superblast still allows me to run without a plated shoe all the time (which you could argue that this isn't much different but still) while keeping the toe supported enough
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning Ай бұрын
In this use case, I can totally see it. I deal with hallux limitus and find if I spend too much time in a overly stiff shoe I begin to loose what flexibility I have in my big toe joint rather quickly. It is one reason I prefer Nike for their flexibility in the toe area, plated or non plated. It helps me maintain what flexibility I work so hard to keep. When I do have a flare up and my big toes are just not having it...the SB is a great option to get me out the door and able to run comfortably (the Adios Pro 3 has been another great option for this).

So, I loved the SB1, but one thing I did notice was a bit of a hotspot under the ball of the foot after 10k or so. I actually like it as a tempo or longer interval (10-15min) shoe. Already have the SB2, though I haven’t been in town to use it yet. Hoping this can be my long run w/ race pace shoe. I tend to use the Adios Pro 3 for those runs. Probably my favorite shoe, so no complaints, but also don’t want to get in the habit of running in plated shoes 2x a week.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning Ай бұрын
I alternated the SB with the AP3 a bit last summer. They really work well together. I got the same issue with FFTurbo in any shoe I tried it in. Hotspots under the ball of my foot and sore feet for 2-3 days after if I did a hard workout or run longer that 16-20k. I’m not getting any of that with FFTurbo+ though. Its not as nice on my feet and legs as ZoomX or LSP, but its not much worst. Huge improvement over FFTurbo. For this review I did a 16k, 18k & 17k run…. Additionally I have multiple 16-19k runs in the Metaspeed Edge Paris and even more hard workouts. No sore feet issues at all.

I think the appeal of this shoe is the sheer amount of versatility. This is a "Do It All" shoe. Max cushion + fast + responsive + fairly stable + durability (ppl running 1000-1500 k in them and they still going strong). You can do slow, long runs. Faster, shorter runs and everything in between. For me the Nimbus are too soft and squishy, the Novablast has mediocre forefoot cushion and simply not as fast. Magic Speed has poor grip and a little too stiff for slower runs. The SB combines the best parts of several models u can skip on when owning these...

The combination of the old FF Turbo and FF Blast+ in the Superblast 1 was a perfect match for me. The harshness of FF Turbo was perfectly muted by the FF Blast+ to my liking. I'm just a big fan of the old FF Turbo foam and I love it's harsh feel for some reason. I will not get that 2nd version right away as I think the updates are not that sufficient to replace the 1st version which I really love. Since the 1st version is built like a tank, I guess I might not be having the 2nd version anytime soon. Great review as always. 😊

Ya, I REALLY was not a fan of the harshness of FFTurbo. I agree FFBlast+ muted it a lot in the SB, made it tolerable. The SB2 doesn’t have this issue. You said it correctly. Tank is the word for SB1, I have banked almost 600k on mine and it's still working like a charm, made it really 'cheap' relative to its economic life. Eagerly awaiting the July 19th release date in my country. I missed out on the SB V1. Bought 2 pairs of NB V3 (Feb 9th 560km now), and (April 8th 200km now), and really used them more than I intended. Since I lacked a true pure LSD shoe that wasn't clunky. Depending how I like the SB V2, I can see me grabbing a pair of NB V4 to get me through my next 2 back to back marathon blocks. I never run in the same shoe on back to back days (unless I'm on vacation). So I really need 2 daily trainers and a long run shoe to cover my 5 standard run days, leaving my 2 workout days to be covered by other shoes. I'm quickly turning into an ASICS guy for daily/long run (love their heel lockdown), and mostly workout/race in Nike, (Tempo Next% and all 3 versions of the AF) since the air pods are just magical for me. I have a pair of Tempo Next% pushing 1200km! (Treadmill workout only shoe now) Where my average retirement distance on shoes is 500-600km.

If you've never run in the Superblast, it will feel very clunky at first. Especially compared to the other shoes you mentioned. Stick with it though, for a dedicated LSD shoe, there are few better options on the market, especially where you need to add marathon pace into the equation. The SB to AF3 works well too, at least as a training pair in a marathon build. The SB makes the AF3 feel "small", which I don't like. They are effective together though.

However had it not been for the size I would have still questioned its place in my shoe rotation. When you have the Speed 3/4, the Triumph, DN2, several other daily trainers and tempo shoes, which one of those shoes would the Superblast replace and be an upgrade to? I'd appreciate your feedback. Also, is the Superblast your favorite long run shoe? If so what is your second favorite long run shoe?

Of those shoes, the Triumph...but also not really. The Superblast is all together different. If not training for a marathon, think of the Superblast as a dedicated Long run shoe. Didn't get along with the SB1. Like you, I feel like it's just a bit too much shoe. Besides, I use the Adios Pro 3 as my long run trainer (long progression runs, longer threshold intervals etc) and I absolutely love it. Easily my favourite super shoe. Can't wait for the Adios 9. I managed to buy the Adios 8 cheaply recently and while I'm all for lower stack shoes I feel this shoe would be infinitely better without the plastic torsion thing. Instead of landing on beautiful LSP I find the plastic deadens the landing and dulls the ride of the shoe. It also ruins my calves like no other! haha. So the Adios 9 without the plastic torsion and full LSP should, fingers crossed, be an absolute belter.

The Metaspeeds are ideal, if you have a foot to fit them. The Ceilo x1, Alphafly 3 and Adios Pro 3 are all solid matches too.

Hopefully Asics plays less games with the release of this one. Or they solve their production issues with the foams. I'm not quite sure which one is making the Superblast so rare.

I currently own the Skyward X, Adidas SL2, and Endorphin Pro 4. I was hoping to replace my Skyward X with this as my recovery shoe, but your analysis says it doesn't work for that. Skyward seems to also be made for the cushy long run experience. Could you recommend a few recovery shoes that would fit my lineup? The 1080v13 is at the top of my list currently, but I'd like to stay open to other options. Thanks for the awesome content!!

I’m not really a recovery shoe runner… I often prefer a cushioned trainer or a more mobile shoe for that (work out the stiff feet and legs). The 1080v13 is a good start. Honestly…. The SL2 would be one of those shoes I would use for a “recovery” run. The Novablast 4 is another.

Got a pair today, 9.5, 290 USD in Brazil (outrageous). Tested them on the treadmill at the store, they felt perfect, but when I got home, I put them on and felt the most bizarre thing. Only my right foot feels tight and snug on top of my toes, the left foot fits perfectly. How much does the insole add to the stack? Could I maybe replace both insoles for thinner ones, or considering that I'm supposed to run very long runs on them, should I consider a fair amount of feet swelling and change my pair for a 10 right away? I've never been in this situation before, lol. Thanks!
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 6 күн бұрын
If they are there right (and for that money, yikes) I’d go back to the store and talk to them, maybe try the 10 on. There is so much foam in the SB2 that swapping out the insole for something thinking won’t matter much…. But I’d try the store first.
@ucatani
@ucatani 6 күн бұрын
It's an aberration, definitely, but I've switched from heel to forefoot striking over the past nine months through a very gradual process using a lot of treadmill and drills, but my calves are aching in longer runs. The SL2 was a disaster unfortunately, I thought it could be used for longer runs, but my size 10 is not snug at all and my foot "slides" in the shoe, both sideways and lenghtwise, which has given me terrible blisters. This one I can only retire or use for shorter runs. Ironically, although my feet are a bit widish, all Nike models fit them just perfectly on size 10. But other brands either are too wide on the 10, or too narrow on 9.5 (go figure). As for the long runs, I'm not a marathoner, I typically run HMs, so I won't be running more than 25k probably, and I think this unplated beast (the SB2) will be just ideal, although I've been a Pegasus lover for over a decade and will stick to it for shorter, recovery, every day runs. Thanks again and happy running, Chris!
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 6 күн бұрын
I made that switch about 15 years ago now. It takes time for the body to adapt. I remember my calves for years afterwards. The SB2 is ideal for what you want to do with them. Hopefully you can get the fit dialed. Also… the Pegasus is always an option…. You can never go wrong with the Pegasus.

will you be reviewing the Adidas ultraboost 5x? I just got them recently, ran a 5K yesterday and it feels good as my first running shoes (been doing 5Ks for 2-3 months now) but I just came across SB2 and in love with the colour-way and the features. I'm wondering to get this too, since I'm not a huge fan of the colour-way of Adidas UB5... And, the SB2 is the Paris limited edition colour way so I dont want to miss out on it!
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 29 күн бұрын
I don't plan on covering that one. If you are a new or casual runner....you don't need the SB2. The UB5 will do just fine for you. If you are a seasoned runner and considering training and racing seriously...the SB2 is a great next step.

@@SagasuRunning thank you for replying. Ya I’m training to run 10k straight now, I’ve done 7k in 42 minutes, 6min/ km pace and aiming to steadily increase my fitness. Soooo with running being my new hobby and I want to keep taking it further into half marathon late into year, I feel SB2 is a better choice isn’t it? Because also, they are roughly same price. SB2 is just $20 cad more.

@SagasuRunning 28 күн бұрын
If it’s between the UB5 or SB2, yes the SB2…. But again, the SB2 will be overkill for the moment. The UB5 is a solid option if you like Adidas. If you are curious about Asics the Novablast 4 would be a better option too.

Do u think it would be wise to go up half a size to help with the forefoot tightness? I dont feel the tightness when Im running but once I stop and am walking home etc...u just have the nagging though. On the novablast 4 I have the wide version in US size 9.

If you run in a wide shoe normally, you may want to go at least half a size up. The SB is not a wide shoe, it fits similar to a standard width Novablast 4.
