Touching. My Mother and Father fell in love but couldn't even communicate because she didn't speak English and he didn't speak Korean. She left Korea with him and I, and she didn't get to go back until I was out of High school. I always felt for her when she would cry, missing Halmoni, when we had to go to places that had no Korean food.....so I always told myself I would never leave her alone. Now My Father and Younger brother are in Heaven and it's me her and my Husband. I appreciate so much her sacrifices, and the sacrifices my Dad made just to raise us with love......now I'm crying, I'm going to go call her.

Stay with your mom and don't ever let her go, enjoy every moment with her, be with her when she needs you. Love her when she is nice and love her stronger when se isn't. Froget all bad things, just thing how lucky you are to have such a strong mother, think about every sunny day that you would spend with your family. Look at the sky and say and you will see your brother and father. It s really simple to ve happy you just need a smile and thats all. I'm crying while writing this

I cried because I know how a lot them feel. My parents are immigrants from Mexico and I've seen them sacrifice so much. The worst I would say is when they don't see their parents and siblings for years. My dad hasn't seen his older siblings in over 20 years. His mom died and he couldn't even go to her funeral. And now his dad is really sick and he can't even go see him. Same for my mom. Her little brother just recently died and it crushed her because she dreamed of visiting their old house, knocking at the door, and seeing her brother's surprised face as he saw her. Immigrant parents give up so much for their children. We have to give thanks for what our parents provide us, no matter the background.

*"Parents are real heros"* . . . . *EDIT- I see many of you commenting about the one's who abuse and all and I'm sorry this comment of mine is as appreciation comment towards the immigrant parents or such parents (including mine) who sacrifice sm for their children. The parents in the vid and even mine belong to a country where government does not fund kids like they do in n. Americam and Euro countries we belong to countries with very expensive exhausting medical and education systems our parents work day and night to even provide us with basic education and most of them move into west countries to provide us with a better livelihood and future (good education and medical care) I'm sorry if I offended you but most of you all in west don't acknowledge much of of the struggle of the rest of the world and take the things you get for granted by saying "We pay taxes" while in our country we do as well but we don't get the quality like you guys do so please be understandable and stop commenting about the abuse one's I've seen many kids from abusive families and I'm sorry for them but like i said this comment is just to appreciate cuz most of hete feel what they are going through just like you feel for the abusive one's or maybe you were abused and I'm sorry*

+Nina Belle I totally feel you. My parents were born in Jordan but my grandparents were born in what is now the Palestinian Territories. People at my school would treat me differently especially because I was muslim. They would call me names and stuff and I cried in my room everyday because I thought there was something wrong with me. I later got passed that and learned to accept myself but it still gets to me. My parents sacrificed so much for my siblings but they never had trouble learning English because in Jordan, English is the second main language. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't appreciate them.

amythist kitty // nothing is wrong with them. Not every parent cares about their kids a single bit. Some kids get abused verbally or physically. Their parents may not accept who they are. Like they said. Their parents don't accept them, there's many things on what they could've meant by "someone who doesn't accept me" they can be gay or trans or a different religion that their parents don't agree with, don't say "tf is wrong with you" because something horrible can be happening that we don't know off. Their parents may not be treating them right so Don't judge a book by its cover.

She always goes out of her way to make sure we have the things we need to be successful and teaches us to be independent. My dad was barely around and didn't really teach us anything so our mom had to be the mother and fath, but now when i am 19 and my sister 22 he was trying to get back into our lives, but we told him it's too late when we needed him he wasn't there our mom has had to do everything. Now do you see why Asians are so obsessed with math and APs and good grades and all that stuff? It's to survive . Even if there isn't a legal discrimination there is still a LOT of discrimination behind our back and to have an equal opportunity as whites, we need to work so much harder.

not really? i agree on the people of colour being considered unequal, but the "super smart" stereotype is most definitely not a good thing. that "super smart" stereotype is also known as the model minority stereotype, which, if you've ever experienced it, is not a good thing. whenever i (as a vietnamese person growing up in america) i accomplished something in school, it was attributed to my asian-ness. no! it wasn't because i worked hard for it! it's not because i studied, right? what about the asians who don't fit into the stereotype? whenever i got something wrong or if i ever was not perfect, it was like a blow to the head. i thought something was wrong with me. was i not smart? i was asian, so how could i not uphold the "expectation"? i'm sick of having my hard earned accomplishments being treated as an automatic result of my being born as an asian. it's not a good thing. it glosses over the fact that we have to work as hard, if not harder, for what we want in life here. it further separates PoC and prevents us from uniting in solidarity.

+Lily Clark It's agreeable, I live in the UK, and my parents are from China, more specifically Hong Kong, but I was born in the UK. I get the "stereotypes" often, but I make fun of myself for that as well. The reason is that if I say it, it shows that I don't care about it, and their "bullying" (as majority bully people for attention) wont be feeding them the attention, and I don't feel offended. It's like my name for example, (you know, asians only get rice lol) I make fun of myself like the "squinty eyes" or the "me no engrish" jokes. It's just something to state that I've made the joke, you don't need to. I got asked "what's an Asian's favourite pudding?", they said "Rice pudding". Tbh, it was a bad joke, but it's something that I don't really take too seriously, and they know that I don't, so there's no "bullying" happening.

It's funny because I try to explain to some people what life is like as a child of an immigrant- there's so much academic pressure and so much pressure in general for success because your parents sacrifice so much- and people laugh at this and say "well my parents sacrificed a lot too. I have pressure on me too" but people don't understand it's not the same. Our families abandoned their country and the rest of their family to put us in a better place and help set us up for success. It's a whole different pressure than just getting good grades and having a good job and some people don't understand that.

As white Americans, my parents have never had to go through any of this. Hearing their stories really struck a chord with me. I think it's really important to think of what other people might be going through. Having my grandparents and all of my other relatives living here really made my life easy. I can't imagine what it would be like to leave your family to find a better life for yourself and your children. It makes me have a lot of respect for immigrants and I think it's sad that so many Americans want them gone. cornish Pete whether you like buzzfeed or not, you can't deny that their employees are hardworking and sacrifice a lot for their jobs. All of the videos you see are mostly produced entirely by the people you see on screen. They aren't just actors that the company hires and reuses. They write, film, edit and do all the behind the scenes work, along with their other jobs inside the office. The only help they get is from other people around the office, not the magic tooth fairy, so yeah I'd say they are pretty good role models.

Safiyah's story hit me the hardest. That is what I used to do too. I was so embarrassed by my mother and the traditional things that she used to do. My mother loved to share her culture with other people so she used to bring traditional food to our school etc. Like Safiyah, I'm a muslim, and people were not open to what she had to say or show, instead, I was made fun off, so I became angry too and told her to not come. She stopped coming, and I saw her became more and more depressed each year. I didn't know that it hurt her, until I was older. My mother is the most divine, pure-hearted woman in the world and I'm so proud of her, and I wish I could show that when I was younger, instead of making her feel bad for who she is and the culture that she was so proud of. She fled Somalia in 1988, which is over 28 years ago, and hasn't been back ever since. She lost both of her parents, and doesn't have contact with her siblings because she doesn't know where they are. My mother had depression and I heard her cry herself to sleep every night. We grew up in a city where we are the only Somali people, so she never had someone she could talk to or communicate with. Teaching people in our town about Somali traditions and making them our food was her way of staying in touch with her culture and making her happy, and I took that away from her. I never knew that I made her feel more like an outsider. People already looked at her and made comments, and I should've been the person she felt comfortable around, but I wasn't. I made her feel even worse about herself. I wish that I showed her that I was proud of having her heritage, instead of just showing my dad that I was proud of having his. I should've embraced her culture the same way I embraced my father's. I have taken steps to learn the somali language now, and I have seen the smile that puts on her face, especially when I ask her to teach me how to make somali food. Mother, I love you. ❤️

@nadder19 I can’t speak to the original commentor’s experience but even though a family is successful in one of these Asian countries, They sometimes choose to leave to give their children more opportunities. Life in Vietnam for example (home of my ancestors) could be great for many who are able to make it but it is a life surrounded by corruption and hands tied by the government. Your children will have better opportunity elsewhere even if you are successful. Stories of immigrants are hard to understand and explain. My parents were immigrants and I feel their pain of what they experienced and understand why they had to leave, but I can never retell or recount their stories to the degree at which they do. Just know that life within these Asian countries just 30-40 years ago was very difficult (and still is for many) and life in the new, free world will always be better. You just have to live it or visit these countries to understand. I kind of went off on a tangent that isn’t related to your original question. It’s just a topic I’m very passionate about.

My dad's West Indian and my mom's from Trinidad. They both moved to America for a "better life" but when we (my sisters and I) were born everything became harder. My dad was very talented in mathematics but he works 2 jobs so he can see us. My mom is a teacher but she comes home with back pain and high blood pressure. She's always so stressed but she still keeps a smile on her face. Neither of them can always make it to my band concerts or come take pictures during my award ceremonies but they're trying their best. Children of immigrants all understand that we can't always have what we need but our parents will always try their best.🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🍛🍛

Safiya's story really hit me hard, because as a Muslim,I know how much we get misunderstood and get called terrorists etc., when we really aren't. Some try to become people they are not, ashamed of who they are, especially by the influence of others, when really they should embrace and show the beauty of their religion, their country and who they are in general.

this video (especially saf's part, as a fellow muslim who used to feel like an outcast amidst predominantly white christian children at primary school) really touched me. my parents moved to london and left their families behind when they knew they wanted to start a family of their own, because they wanted my siblings and i to be educated in the UK and ensure that we had a better future. they are fortunate enough to have jobs that allow them to provide amazingly for us, despite coming here with no higher education whatsoever. they're one of the main reasons behind my motivation to always work hard and do well at school. i'm really grateful to them and i know a lot of other asian children feel the same way.

Yo guys my mom is about to become a citizen after like 25 years of being here so happy she won't have to live in fear someone is going to show up and take her away from her family

Oh she was was illegal she came here from Mexico because there the gang people will show up at your house and force you to give you the title to your house or kidnap family members for money so yeah she came here to have her kids and to give them their best shot at a decent life and if you hate her for coming into this country even though this county was taken from other people and your ancestors were once the immigrants jokes on you because she's here to stay :)

Coming from the child of two Nigerian immigrants, these stories can be applied to all immigrant families, including the being ashamed of your parents for stuff they thought you appreciated.

Yeah, I agree. It doesn't matter from where our parents moved, but they are all alike in the struggles they faced so their children could have better lives.

LoveU2 I am a Nigerian immigrant as well and was going to point out how they go above and beyond to make us comfortable. My mom currently works 2 jobs, she has no time for herself. My dad sends us all the pension he receives so we can pay the mortgage for our house. They sold most of the property they owned so we could move here. They have always done this for us. It sort of gets complicated because i appreciate everything they have done for me, but i know i'm going to end up being the biggest disappointment to them because i'm gay, and you know that it is never acceptable to Nigerians. I wish i could tell them to live and enjoy their life and not invest so much in me, because they inevitably will be heartbroken.

Meesta kevin I know how the Nigerian community is, my mom is now a single mom. Also, I think society is changing, it might be hard for them to wrap their head around who you are at first, but I think that there is hope, don't give up.

As I'm from India i have seen soo many arrange marriages eveb thought the parents don't love each other or even if they want to give divorce to each other they won't they'll still stick themselves together for there kids they'll be fine with Livin in rooms with no acs but buying the most expensive and the best thing for there kids. Even if you fail in ur life you're 25 your parents will still love you and let you stay with them for the rest of there lives and take all your expenses. When you're a parent you learn to sacrifice yourself and it automatically happens always love and adore ur parents .💞

Ishika - yep and I’m not Indian and I agree. Also among South Asia, child marriages used to be the norm, which is what probs got the idea of Arranged marriages

Yeah I agree with you. But personally for me, with my parents having an arranged marriage, it's harder for me with them being together. My dad is never happy and him and my mum are always fighting, and he treats me, my mum and my sister like crap and just recently he hit my mum for the first time. They are together "for their kids" but I seriously want them to divorce. It's hurting us all and I get its a sin in the bible to divorce but I'm sick of how unhappy we are as a family.

@@triciafradrick3731 damn, my parents fight here and there, and are angry and were arranged marriage but like they like being together. Like if I joke around with either my parents, or try to stop them from fighting, they go full defensive mode on the other parent. Just watch this video from SuperWoman which explains my parents in a nutshell: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmfOc4uYrJ54a68

My parents aren’t happy together and all it’s done is make us all miserable. So I’m not gonna be thankful for that
