Your Acolyte video wasn't hateful though. You were disappointed and mad about it and that's a big difference. I think people just wanted to hear your thoughts about it.

Maybe it’s because Acolyte is a popular topic right now, that your vid on it got the most views. People don’t know it’s a negative video before watching it…

The twist in Sugar seemed obvious to me, because we were all told to expect a big twist, so we were actively looking for something, and we were hyper-aware of everything. Imagine watching the show, without fore knowledge. Would it have been as easy to figure it out, then?

Hello John, I'm sorry you feel this way regarding the online state of things. I watch many/most of your videos. I was interested in watching The acolyte video because I value your opinion especially because you are a Star wars fan, you like to give movies/shows the benefit of the doubt, AND you try and give positives even in things that aren't good. I think many people love certain things like star wars, for example, and seek out people who do reviews/know the movie industry. By doing this they can see oh ok, it's not just me that thought X show/movie was bad. I'm sure you're aware of the psychology behind it but I wouldn't take it personal when people sought your opinion (because they value it) on a show that was bad (but I think overall they WANT star wars to be good).

John, please don't quit out of dismay. I believe you have it wrong on the hate clicking. I typically just watch movie reviews, not movie news. If the review is positive, I'll consciously stop the video and pop the movie/show in my queue to watch. Sometimes it takes several months before I get around to watching the movie ... And then the reviews. Godzilla Minus One and Mando Season 2 are recent examples. I'll never make the time to watch anything with bad reviews and prefer to watch the scathing play by play on KZbin while doing menial work. Take a look at some of your older positive reviews and see if there was any uptick in clicks weeks after release. Hopefully it shows there are others who feel the same way. I can tell you I watched the heck out of Godzilla Minus one reviews after seeing it in theatres. Some by channels with only a few 100 followers. I was hooked on the feelz

THIS. People got it wrong. Not liking something is hardly hating it. I really really disliked Madam Web, is a film so ridiculous that is almost enjoyable. As matter of fact I think that is the reason is so popular right now in Netflix. I wouldn't call it "hate watching" Is just pure entertainment to find enjoyment into dissing, laughing at and destroying a train wreck like that. It's almost therapeutic...It's so bad that is good.

To be fair: regarding the Laurel Lance thing, her dad was a police officer I’m sure he had her in some self defense classes and I think she even says that in season 1 episode 3 when Tommy & Oliver are about to get jumped by the club owner and his goons, Laurel comes in the takes down two of them. Granted some self defense classes & some boxing classes don’t equal the training Oliver or Sara went through but still it’s something

Can’t say I’ve seen people attacked for liking something, I have seen people attacked who like it and have a “you’re too stupid to understand it”, “it’s beyond you” type attitude. Which is just as bad as those who don’t like it abusing people. The biggest difference is the internet and social media where people have become so used to abusing each other freely. Nobody would be doing it face to face, like you had to watching Phantom Menace .

24:15 My opinion i think it was both not a good idea for Mark Ellis or Perri Nemiroff to be the host. Because it felt like Ellis show and with Perri a Perri show. It was best to me when Natasha, Sinéad and Ashley were the host. That was Movie talk to me and it didn't feel like a particular person's show.

I doubt the reason the video of crapping on Acolyte chapter 4 was the most popular was because of hate or hate clicking... The reason, I believe, is that this Disney show has an 82% critic approval in Rotten Tomatoes. knowing that Campea usually sees only the positives on Marvel and Star Wars shows, people were legitimately curious that he would go against the grain and honestly give the show a bad review.
@Trentch213 ай бұрын
Are you delusional? John criticizes marvel and Star Wars all the time. He only sees the positives is insane statement. He tries to be optimistic and positive, but he will be critical of stuff if deserved. Wow.

Hello and good day, that's a very easy answer people have to come condition to hate either it is hate click, hate watching, hate viewing, hate comments we have slowly become conditioned to it. Because it's become such a normalized and accepted Behavior it's going to be harder and more difficult to change that toxic pattern.

He's been working hard on KZbin for over 20 years, and his wife also makes good money (plus no kids to spend their money on). Also, I have a feeling, just like he says about Tarantino, that he won't fully retire and could likely come back to some form of regular Youtubing.

Yo. Long (LONG) time viewer. But also homeless and poor, so you won’t catch me donating to superchats or anything like that. I’d LIKE to….but I just can’t. But something to consider. I get your disappointment in that your videos on the Acolyte has the most views. But…..Star Wats is Star Wars. I would surmise most of your viewers are fans of Star Wars versus most anything else. As for me? Even being homeless I hold onto a Disney+ subscription because I hope to find some joy out of life. But getting this never-ending carousel of garbage is depressing. That being said, as for your plans for retirement…..here is something to consider: you bring a lot of joy to a lot of people. And while I would never tell you what to do with your life (although I’m about to do exactly that…..) before you make that decision I’d like you to at least factor in that aspect of it. There are sooooo many things I disagree with you about, but the discourse is a GOOD thing. If you abandon this, you will leave a void that cannot be filled. Again….something to consider when the time comes.

Maybe your Acolyte video got more views because people respect your opinion and insight into film and TV more than those shills. I've stopped watching those hate videos as their opinions simply come from ignorance. I've decided only to watch videos from people with genuine insight and thoughts about cinema, such as you.
John, we appreciate your realness and level-headed analysis. A train wreck is great at grabbing attention, which is what happened with the Acolyte. We need good criticism that isn’t driven by hate, culture war nonsense, and conspiracy theories.
@steverok673 ай бұрын
Hi John. Maybe your video for Acolyte got the most views, by far, because it was Star Wars related, not because it was negative. Perhaps a glowing review would have received similar attention. Food for thought ...

I know the Acolyte is run more like a mediocre CW show than Star War movie, but I like the cast and I half ass watch for the world building, I always side eyed the gate kkeeping of the Force even as a kid, this pulls in a lot of wierd theories I always had and Star Wars a Galaxy not a small town, I alway wondered what type of force "creatures" or other relegions live outside the light and the dark, and if there's none. ..Who destroyed them all?
